Every child should be taught this lesson

A lesson
that should be taught in all schools ... And colleges!

Back in September of 2005,
on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a
social studies school
teacher at Robinson
High School in
Little
Rock , did something not to be forgotten.
On the first day of school, with the permission of the School
Superintendent, the Principal and the Building Supervisor, she
removed all of the desks out of her
classroom.

When the first
period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no
desks.

'Ms.. Cothren,
where're our desks?'

She replied,
'You can't have a desk until you tell me how you earn the right to
sit at a desk.'

They thought,
'Well, maybe it's our grades.'

'No,' she said.

'Maybe it's
our behavior.'

She told them,
'No, it's not even your behavior.'

And so, they
came and went, the first period, second period, third period...
Still no desks in the classroom.

By early
afternoon television news crews had started gathering in
Ms.Cothren's classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had
taken all the desks out of her room.

The final
period of the day came and as the puzzled students found seats on
the floor of the desk less classroom, Martha Cothren said,
'Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what
he/she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are
ordinarily found in this classroom. Now I am going to tell
you.'

At
this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom
and opened it.

Twenty-seven
(27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that classroom,
each one carrying a school desk. The Vets began placing the school
desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside
the wall... By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in
place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time
in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been
earned..

Martha said,
'You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks. These heroes did
it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it's up to
you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good
students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you
could have the freedom to get an education. Don't ever forget
it.'

By the way, this is a true story.

Pallet chair

I bet I could build one of these.

http://www.studiomama.com/palletchairlo.html

Hannah is 14 now and the morning glories are glorious

My cattle panel arch/arbor thing.

Beautiful morning glories.

What a beautiful young lady.

Yep, they are moving. Look at the boxes behind Hannah.

Mollie lit Hannah's candles.

Trailer storage unit is almost done

Mollie and Jeff working on the first side of shelves.

Adan and Jeff working on the second side of shelves.

Fastening the shelves securely.

Almost done.

I am surprised at the amount of space between the sets of shelves. Both sets of shelves are two feet wide. I wanted them to be wide enough to hold a typical tote. Also high enough to hold totes and/or 5 gallon buckets. My oil and some food storage like wheat is in 5 gallon buckets. We just have a couple more of the pieces to keep things on the shelves to put up and the L brackets on the top and bottom of the two by fours on the second set and we will be done.
Then we will sweep and mop and begin filling it up.

New sectional for the rv

When we bought the 5th wheel it had a smallish couch with a bed in it and a booth/table set up. I didn't like how it looked like every other RV, Sooooo, I got out the screw driver and took it all apart. We brought the couch (very cheaply made) into the house and it only lasted a few months. The booth/table set up I discarded except for the cushions. The table and posts I put in the storage part of the RV in case it was ever needed. The bottom part that the legs stuck down in unscrewed and there was no hole or anything so that was good. It was on the carpeted area.

We then purchased a folding table and folding chairs. Also a set of wood TV trays and 3 outdoor type chairs. This set up worked OK for when Jeff was working out of town and living in the 5er.

Now that the whole family is going to live in the 5th wheel I wanted more and better seating. I found a neat place to order a sectional that comes in boxes and is easy to put together. After numerous measurements and thinking I believe I have the ideal combination. It will be a super long couch made up of sectional pieces with a ottoman on one end that makes that end look like a lounge chair. I ordered 6 fabric samples so I can make sure which fabric I like the best. They have over 100 kinds to choose from.

I have a small end table I bought for $5.00 at an auction while I was still in high school and a friend refinished it and I wanted to keep it. I didn't want to store it, I want to use it. If my measurements are correct, there will be room at the end of the sectional for the table with 2 inches to spare.

We decided to take the table out and just put the big long sectional all the way across the slide out. I asked Mollie if she would rather have a table and chairs or more sofa space. She said more sofa space. We will still have the table and chairs so if we want to rearrange at some point we can. In the mean time we plan to eat off TV trays. The table is actually adjustable so if need be we can use it for a coffee table or kitchen table. Just by making adjustments to the height.

I have a nice kitchen cart I have been using in the 5er for more storage and counter space.

Oh, I forgot the best part. Each piece of the sectional has storage in the bottom. Some reviews said it was a little harder because the foam cushions set directly on wood instead of springs but I think the extra storage space will be worth the trade off.

This is the web site I will be ordering from:
http://www.homereserve.com/index.cfm

The girls room is a bunk house meaning there are four bunks. There is precious little space between the bunks. You cant even raise your arms with out hitting one of the bunks. My challenge is to make that space livable and comfortable for two teenage girls. After much thinking, ideas, discarding ideas, and such I think I have a good plan for that space.

On one side the bunks are bigger than on the other so, obviously the girls sleep on the big side. I took the cushion from the top bunk and put it along the back of the bottom bunk to form a sofa like thing. Its not too comfortable but when I get a bunch of pillows I think it will be OK. Next, I plan on removing the small top bunk. It rests on a rail which is just raw ugly wood so I will find some nice trim to change it out with. Then I want to install a book shelf all along the side.

This will leave a more open feel to the bunk room. For extra storage I will be shopping for rectangular baskets to slide under the beds. This will allow storage for the girls for more clothes. Clothes was the one thing they didn't want to get rid of. Old toys, and such, OK, but they wanted to keep lots of clothes. They did get rid of a lot but they will still need more storage than the cabinet between the two bunks.

As I complete these changes I will post before and after pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Kaci Ronne went to be with Jesus

Kaci Ronne went to be with Jesus this morning at about 9:30 am. No more pain, no more sickness, no more sadness. Please pray for Ryan and the children as well as the rest of their family and friends.

Friday, August 27, 2010

Well Mollie I do love you.

Ok, I ave no idea what Mollie is doing here. I thought she was blowing out her candles but it looks like she is cooking hamburger.

Yep, she is cooking hamburger.

Cake and ice cream for Mollie's sweet 16.

Look, she had to light her own candles. I did get up early and make the cake before it got too hot. Joy always seems to have to make her own birthday cake.

Its only 16 candles, should the smoke alarms be going off already?

I'll have some cake and ice cream, thanks.

Happy Birthday Mollie. I forgot to post that it was your 16th birthday on Monday.
And no you are not chopped liver.

Building shelves in the trailer

It was kind of cool that the paint matched the pick up so well.
See our smaller trailer behind.

Looking from the back towards the front.

Jeff is working on building the shelves.

Mollie got recruited to help too.

Mollie knows how to run tools, that's for sure.

Looking to the back with a couple of shelves laying on the floor waiting to be installed.

Looking from the back with the shelves on the floor.

Yep, they are still laying on the floor. But you can see the strip that will be the ledge for the shelf to rest on.

Finally, some progress. Got the bottom shelf up.

Make sure its secure Jeff.

Attaching the top shelf to the wall.

Kaci and Ryan

Please read Ryan Ronne's blog post for today.
My heart is breaking.

New garbage disposal

Jeff just installed a new garbage disposal. Why do things go out just when you are selling the place? Oh well, now the new owner will have a brand spanking new disposal to use.
Jeff is so handy and handsome.
Next we are going outside to build the shelves for the trailer. I will take some pictures and post them later.

The appraisers coming

The appraiser is coming tomorrow morning. It looks like the show is getting on the road. So tonight we clean and tidy. He said he knows we are packing and not to panic. But of course I want everything to look nice.

Keep praying for Kaci

I have mentioned Kaci Ronne here a few times and I want to mention her again. The doctors have given up and sent her home. Hospice has come in.
But we are still storming heaven on her behalf and will continue to do so until she is completely healed or God takes her to be with him.
Yesterday Ryan asked folks to comment with the state they are from and he got responses from all but five states and even a few foreign countries. That is so awesome.
This family is an inspiration and even while Kaci is sick is ministering to God's people by their faith and steadfast love for God.
Ryan has been open and honest on his blog and it helps to know specifically how to pray each time.
I praise God for this family and lift them up daily and ask that you my friends do the same.
If you have not read Ryans blog you can do so here:
http://theronnes.blogspot.com/
Remember to continually lift Kaci up and ask for God will and complete healing.

We bought an enclosed trailer

We found the trailer we wanted and bought it today. I drove several hours to look at and purchase this trailer. Its 30 ft. long. We parked it close to the sheds so we can start installing shelves and begin arranging our overflow and storage items in it. It is wired and has an a/c unit and outlets. Also florescent lights. I think this will work very well for us. When we get the shelves built I will take pictures and post them.

This is the only thing I got done today. All my time was spent driving. I will have to do some figuring and such and go to the lumber yard to buy the wood to make the shelves.

Monday's progress

~I started making a list on my sidebar of the things I want to accomplish today. I will try to update it each day.

~Today I washed a load of clothes early in the morning and hung them out to dry.
Then I baked Mollie's birthday cake while it was still cool.
Later the girls and I started in cleaning the pantry and a few of the kitchen cabinets. I also got some of the big brown cabinet cleaned out that is in my utility room.

~When our helper boy gets here after school today I will have him take out the trash and load the boxes we got filled into the trailer.

~Jeff thinks he has a buyer for our pellet stove. We bought it and have never used it.

~Right now we are taking a break, then a bit more work and then make stone.

~A man called and wants to buy 5 pallets of stone. Yeah.

~I have a email in to a fella about an enclosed trailer. We didn't buy the one in Oklahoma city because the guy didn't act interested in selling one to us. I had cash money in my purse but he didn't know that. Oh well. I figure God has a better one out there for us somewhere.

~I am going to work at Loaves and Fishes tomorrow. I don't know if the girls will come work or not.

~The lady who is buying our house said they should be calling me to do an appraisal some time this week. I will have to make the appointment so we have a bit of time to move boxes and such and make the place look nice.

~I asked the girls to move the hoses after stone today so I can mow the yard.

~I am going to ask Jeff to move the 5th wheel back where it used to be so I can get started loading it and moving things over there. That will also give me a feel about how much I am going to have to store that wont fit.

The wheels are turning

I was thinking that many of you don't know what we are up to as far as selling the house, moving where we are going and why. This post is to clear some of that up for you.
We live in the house pictured on the top of my blog. Its located on 16 acres in rural Oklahoma.

We moved to Oklahoma from eastern Kansas almost 6 years ago when a head hunter found my husband and he got a job at Seaboard Foods. The company moved us. It was so easy. They packed, loaded and unloaded.

We have enjoyed our country life but feel its time to close this chapter in our lives. We both feel God calling us to simplify and downsize and become more mobile. We also feel the call to get debt free as soon as possible.

Right now we can afford our home but the future is never certain. What is affordable today may not be affordable next year. We both felt the time to sell our home that we love and move was while we could still afford to live here. If things go south we didn't want to be in a position where we were hanging on by a thread with the threat of losing our house hanging over us.

Our house was on the market for two years. It is now sold. A local young lady with a small child is going to be the new owner. She is a recent widow and a school teacher. This house will be wonderful for her. She will have room to have her animals and things around her. I know she is going to love this place. Plus she will be neighbors to some of their family friends.

Anyway, we have been sorting, packing, and purging with a vengeance. Our plan right now is to live in our 5th wheel in an rv park near where Jeff works.

We had run through several options and ideas of what to do with our excess stuff that wont fit in the rv but we need and use and just plain don't want to part with.

One option was to buy a container and place it on my sisters land, use it for as long as we needed to and then give the container to her. When we priced the containers we found that they were twice as expensive as we had thought. Plus we would not have ready access to our belongings.

I love to can. Sew. Make soap, etc. I wanted an alternative that allowed me to have my extra stuff close by in a usable format.

Another option for storage was to rent a storage unit. I don't like the idea of giving my money away each month and not having my stuff close where I can get to it and use it anytime I want.

Finally we hit upon the solution we think will work for us. We are going to purchase a 24 to 26 ft. enclosed trailer. We will build shelves along each side to store our totes of things we want to keep. We thought if we had an aisle down the middle it would keep our things accessible and usable as opposed to piled in like a moving van. We knew if we didn't organize from the start we might as well get rid of everything.

We are in the process of finding an enclosed trailer as well as sorting through all our belongings. We have found that we have an amazing amount of belongings.

My idea is to park the 5th wheel facing one way. Park the enclosed trailer facing towards the rv and then putting one of those tent roof things for shade between the two and tying it down to both trailers.

We have already asked the park owner if we can have both the 5th wheel and the enclosed trailer and he has agreed it will be fine.

We also want to install a small chest deep freeze in the trailer so we can have a small stash of meat on hand. Right now we have two large upright freezers.

I will be chronicling our adventure as we live it. I will also try to take lots of pictures so you can see what we are doing.

Marching on

This is an example of the type of shelve we will be building. Our shelves will be wider and fill both sides of the trailer.
This is an exampl of an enclosed trailer.

Yesterday I completely cleaned out my gift closet. I boxed up to sell several boxes of new in the box gift sets. I always buy gifts at the after Christmas sales for 1/2 off or less so I have a supply of gifts on hand at all times. Well that won't be the case anymore. I kept very little. Some I boxed up and gave to a friend who I thought might enjoy them.

Later a another friend came over and I went through lots of my blown glass, serving pieces and froo froo as she called them. She ended up taking quite a bit home with her. Yeah. I kept most of the blown glass because Hannah's dad made it and I wanted to save it for her when she is grown.

Then another friend came over and we cleaned out my huge china hutch and another very large cabinet where I stored all my (fancy) dishes and serving ware. I ended up with several boxes of glass I just couldn't part with but I also was able to get rid of quite a lot of stuff.

I am coming to the realization that if I don't use stuff, what is the use of having it around? If its something I use once or twice a year is it worth having around? If its a keepsake or something I bought on my honeymoon, then of course I am keeping it, but if its not regularly used then out it went.

I am probably keeping more than I realize. I am also finding out that my house is incredibly dusty. Goodness. I hadn't realized it was so bad. Maybe when I have less stuff I can take better care of it.

Tomorrow we are heading to Oklahoma city to buy an enclosed trailer. When we get it home we will build shelves along each side. I will then be able to begin loading it up with totes of things I think I just cant part with. This will enable me to see just how much stuff I am wanting to keep and be able to decide if I am doing pretty good with the purging or if I need to be harder on myself.

Each room that I pack and purge then has to be rearranged to allow it to once again look nice. I like to keep the place looking presentable. I know that is not completely possible but when we are able to take totes and boxes to the trailer it will help.

We also have another enclosed trailer that we are filling up with boxes of things we want to take to an auction house. We may end up having more than one load. Its a 12 foot trailer and it holds quite a bit of stuff. The trailer we are looking at to buy is a 24ft. model. I figure if I need more storage than that, I better think again.

Prayer requests

I have a few prayer requests if you have time and think about it, I would appreciate it if you could lift them up.
1. My step dad, Don Miller is in the hospital. He is dehydrated and a bunch of other things, in lots of pain and his heart is acting up.
2. My daughter Kaleena and her husband Justin just lost their first baby.
3. Kaci Ronne~the doctors have given up on her but God can do anything. Pray for his servant.
4. MacKenzie Correl~ my cousins daughter is only about 7 or 8 and is suffering terribly from digestive disorders. I don't know if its Crones or what, but she has allergies and all kinds of stuff that no child should have to suffer.
5. Our family~this is not a hurt or sickness, just that we follow the Lords leading and do what we need to do to move.

Thank you to everyone who has time to lift others up before the throne. We as brothers and sister must carry one an others burdens.

Kaleena is recovering and so is Justin

Kaleena had a dnc today and is recovering well. Justin called and he sounded so sad. Poor guy. He was all pumped up to be a daddy. He said the doctor said they could try again in two months. I am praying that next time everything will work out fine.

We started our last stone order yesterday. I am so glad this will be it. It seems like it gets harder every time.

I bought a cantaloupe from someone who was selling them who got them in Rocky Ford Colorado. Oh my, oh my. So good.

We haven't been packing like we should so tomorrow we have to get back on it. If we work on it everyday we can lick it.

The girls started school tuesday and it seems to be going well. Hannah is taking spanish this year instead of sign language.

Broken heart

My daughter Kaleena and her husband Justin were expecting their first baby. She found out today that the baby went to be with Jesus a couple of weeks ago. They are devastated. Please remember them in your prayers.

Saw this at another blog

"You have to work hard to offend Christians. By nature, Christians are the most forgiving, understanding, and thoughtful group of people I've ever dealt with. They never assume the worst. They appreciate the importance of having different perspectives. They're slow to anger, quick to forgive, and almost never make rash judgments or act in anything less than a spirit of total love.....No, wait--I'm thinking of golden retrievers!"
Lord help me to be more like a golden retriever.

I love you Lord

Jesus loves you.
You can never do anything so bad that he can't or won't forgive you if you ask him.
He loves YOU.
He wants to live in your heart and for you to live with him forever.
Jesus loves you.
Yes even you.

John 3:16 says For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him, should not perish but have everlasting life. .

God gave his son Jesus. His own son to buy my pardon. Jesus came to earth and died for our sin. He loves you, he loves me.

Thank you Jesus. I love you and I want to thank you for loving me. Thank you for coming into my life and making me your child. I do not have to fear or worry about all the things I have done because you paid for my sins. I don't have to die and go to hell, because you died for me.

I love you Lord, and I lift my voice, to worship you, oh my soul, rejoice.

God, please send a miracle for Kaci Ronne. She is one of your servants and is hurting so bad. Heal her please Lord. Please bring peace to Ryan as he and the children go through this hard time with Kaci. Thank you that he is one of your servants and loves you. Please be with this family and bring peace and healing.

Amen

The chickens are sold

stock image

Well I got a buyer for my chickens. I have raised them up and they are starting to lay now so I have to sell them. This is a hard one for me. I did find a buyer who is paying a fair price so that helps some. And she said she would sell eggs to me. My flock is down to about 30-35 hens and two roosters now, or shall I say for now. Soon to be none.

Wringer washer update

Jeff took the motor off the washer so he could replace the belt. It is really worn. While he had the motor off he decided that we will soon need a new motor, so we will be pricing those in the future. He is also installing a 25 ft. cord. It had about a 6 ft. cord so that will be much handier. I have had more requests for pictures of actual washing and using the rollers. I have a friend who knows how to do the videos so perhaps she will help me make a video and I can post that.

I am excited to have this machine. I know some folks think we are hillbillies but who cares. I am not telling them they have to do what we are doing.

I wonder why people think you are saying they have to do something a certain way if you tell about how you do something? Oh well.

I think some folks find it interesting to read about the crazy adventures of others but that doesn't mean they are going to live that way. Those are the people I write for. Plus I like new experiences. I like to read about how other people live and how they handle certain aspects of their lives.

Anyway, when we get the washer up and running again I will post more pictures and maybe learn to do a video if my friend will help me.

Using my new wringer washer

Today the girls unloaded my new to me wringer washer. Jeff and I cleaned it up and out and set about to wash a load of clothes. The sun was overhead and we ended up sweating like crazy but we had fun. It doesn't take long and I had read about how to fold the jeans and shirts with buttons so they wouldn't break. We rinsed the clothes in two tubs of water. We just used rubber maid totes for the rinse water. We decided that when we move if we are going to do our laundry this way we are defiantly going to put up some kind of shade tent thing.
The wringer works fine as does everything on the washer. The only thing needing done to the washer is a new cord. Its the original Maytag cord, it says Maytag on the plug part. Jeff is going to make a longer cord with either a foot switch to turn the washer on and off or a hand switch. The washer runs unless it is unplugged so if I had a foot switch I could turn it off easier to let clothes soak. I think it will give me something to do once we get rid of so much of our stuff. I may become a laundry queen. My clothes line is right beside where I was washing so what could be handier?

This cleaning thing

Going through my stuff and sorting, deciding what to keep, what to sell, what to give away has be quite an experience. I just finished the hall linen closet. I got rid of 6 or 7 large black trash bags of blankets, sheet sets, and comforters. I even found two brand new sets of sheets. One was a complete set with dust ruffle and comforter.

Why did I collect all this stuff? Why did I think I would need it later? Most of the stuff on the bottom was a surprise to me. I either didn't remember it or didn't remember I still had it. Obviously I didn't use the stuff.

My sewing room was an experience as well. I got rid of so much stuff I was surprised at what there was there.

I am keeping things, don't get me wrong. But for now I think I am keeping the better stuff. Hopefully soon, I can go through things again and realize even some of the stuff I am now keeping isn't important.

Both Jeff and I feel a huge push to get rid of things and purge our stuff. We don't know why but we are trying to be obedient about it.

At first it was hard. I have a tendency to hang on to stuff. Why? Who knows? If I die tomorrow can I take it with me? No. If I live for another 50 years will it make my life more enjoyable? Some of it, yes, lots of it no. The last couple of years I have come to the conclusion that you don't own stuff, it owns you. You must maintain it, groom it, upkeep, paint, mow, water, etc it. If I spend my whole life taking care of MY stuff, when will I have time to do my fathers work? I am realizing I am only passing through and eternity is a whole lot longer than my life. Which one do I want to invest in?

I haven't got it all down but hopefully we are headed in the right direction. Keep us in your prayers if you can.

Think about this...

THE OLD MAN!

As I came out of the supermarket that sunny day, pushing my cart of groceries towards my car, I saw an old man with the hood of his car up and a lady sitting inside the car, with the door open.

The old man was looking at the engine. I put my groceries away in my car and continued to watch the old gentleman from about twenty five feet

Away..

I saw a young man in his early twenties with a grocery bag in his arm, walking towards the old man. The old gentleman saw him coming too and took a few steps towards him.

I saw the old gentleman point to his open hood and say something. The young man put his grocery bag into what looked like a brand new Cadillac Escalade and then turn back to the old man and I heard him yell at the old gentleman saying,

'You shouldn't even be allowed to drive a car at your age.' And then with a wave of his hand, he got in his car and peeled rubber out of the parking lot.

I Saw the old gentleman pull out his handkerchief and mop his brow as he went back to his car and again looked at the engine.

He then went to his wife and spoke with her and appeared to tell her it would be okay. I had seen enough and I approached the old man. He saw me coming and stood straight and as I got near him I said, 'Looks like you're having a problem.'

He smiled sheepishly and quietly nodded his head. I looked under the hood myself and knew that whatever the problem was, it was beyond me. Looking around I saw a gas station up the road and told the old man that I would be right back... I drove to the station and

Went inside and saw three attendants working on cars. I approached one of them and related the problem the old man had with his car and offered to pay them if they could follow me back down and help him.

The old man had pushed the heavy car under the shade of a tree and appeared to be comforting his wife. When he saw us he straightened up and thanked me for my help. As the mechanics diagnosed the problem (overheated engine) I spoke with the old gentleman.

When I shook hands with him earlier, he had noticed my Marine Corps ring and had commented about it, telling me that he had been a Marine too. I nodded and asked the usual question, 'What outfit did you serve with?'

He had mentioned that he served with the first Marine Division at Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal

...

He had hit all the big ones and retired from the Corps after the war was over. As we talked we heard the car engine come on and saw the mechanics lower the hood. They came over to us as the old man reached for his wallet, but was stopped by me and I told him I
Would just put the bill on my AAA card.

He still reached for the wallet and handed me a card that I assumed had his name and address on it and I stuck it in my pocket.. We all shook hands all around again and I said my goodbye's to his wife.

I then told the two mechanics that I would follow them back up to the station. Once at the station I told them that they had interrupted their own jobs to come along with me and help the old man. I said I wanted to pay for the help, but they refused to charge me

One of them pulled out a card from his pocket looking exactly like the card the old man had given to me. Both of the men told me then, that they were Marine Corps Reserves. Once again we shook hands all around and as I was leaving, one of them told me I should look at the card the old man had given to me. I said I would and drove off.

For some reason I had gone about two blocks when I pulled over and took the card out of my pocket and looked at it for a long, long time. The name of the old gentleman was on the card in golden leaf and under his name.........
'Congressional Medal of Honor Society.'

I sat there motionless looking at the card and reading it over and over. I looked up from the card and smiled to no one but myself and marveled that on this day, four Marines had all come together, because one of us needed help. He was an old man all right, but it felt good to have stood next to greatness and courage and an honor to have been in his presence.

Remember, OLD men Like him gave you FREEDOM for America ..
Thanks to those who served....& those who supported them.

America is not at war. The U.S. Military is at war. America is at the Mall. If you don't stand behind our troops, PLEASE feel free to stand in front of them!

A "possible" bath?

I was reading things on the internet, just crusing around and I found this. I thought it was cute so I am reposting it. I found it here:http://www.ehow.com/how_4714339_off-grid-bathing-running-water.html

Take a "possible" bath. My mother taught me that during the Great Depression, her family would do this. Fill a bowl with warm water. Dip a wash cloth into the warm water, lather it lightly with a soap like Dr. Bronner's and wash your face. Then, rinsing and re-soaping as needed, wash down as far as possible. At that point, start at your feet and wash up as far as possible. At the very end, wash "possible." The point being to wash your least dirty areas first, face, neck, chest, arms, armpits, torso. Then the next level would be your feet, and up your legs. The part that is left, your private areas, is the last to be washed. A possible bath takes about a gallon of water. Hair neither needs to be nor benefits from being washed daily.

First day of school

The girls are doing their first day of the school year today. Its not real intense. We have been gathering books and lining things up all along but today they are making out their schedules. Deciding which subjects to do when. Making sure there are no gaps. I printed off their blank schedules and reading lists. When they were ready to begin we started off as we do everyday with Bible study. Now its quiet as they begin their day.
The next two months are going to be hard for all of us, school, packing, moving, making the last stone order, etc. but we can do it. We just have to remember to not stress about things and keep plugging along.

Free post it notes

When I visited Money Saving Mom's blog today I saw where coupons can be printed for post it notes. $1.00 off the new super sticky ones. Its PDF so you can print as many as you want. I printed 8. When I got to Wal Mart I found them on sale for $1.00 in the school supplies. Yeah. I only had to pay tax for 8 packages of sticky notes. Maybe you will want to print some coupons out and get some for yourself.

Cocoa substitutes

When I am baking I rarely have baking chocolate squares. I almost always have cocoa. I found this nice little graphic that tells you how to substitute cocoa for the squares. The page also has many other ingredient substitutions.

Another new Pink Monkey Product

I got the packaging for my newest Pink Monkey Product. It is soooo cute. When I get some made up I will take pictures. Just thought I'd wet your curiosity. Hint: its for the kiddos

I got it

I am so excited. I got my new (to me) wringer washer. Its really nice and works perfectly. I also got this propane stove thing that will work great for outdoor canning. It has a fitting to hook up to a propane bottle.
We also got rid of both of my dressers, bed side tables, a couch, 3 bookcases, 3 file cabinets, 2 end tables, a queen size bed and bedding to go with the bed. We also returned a twin size bed we had borrowed from my sister when my dad stayed here for a while. Tomorrow, we need to straighten things up and spread things around to fill in the gaps. I still have a lot of furniture to sell so give me a call.
