Choir tour and other things

Last evening the family drove to Hardesty to hear the Bible school choir. It was really good as usual. They have some new talent we enjoyed. One first year student has a professional sounding bass voice and can really deliver. The kids all seem to have a God seeking heart and we felt the Lords presence.

Yesterday the girls and I sorted through four boxes of pictures and cards and narrowed them down to just one. We divided the pictures up into piles for each girl and they put them in a plastic bag and placed them into their keepsake boxes. Today we will go through about 3 more boxes.

I talked to our state representative yesterday and he told me what I need to do to vote this November. He said I can just go to the election office and ask them to mail me an absentee ballot. I was a bit worried that with the move I would not be able to vote. I sure didn't want that. He said that if I have any trouble to call him. Its nice having a representative who is just a regular person and not such a politician. He's is the type of fella you can just visit with.

The weather here is cooling down at night. In this RV we feel the outside temps much faster than those who live in a house so during the morning we keep the doors and windows closed, then we open them for a couple of hours, then we have to turn on the A/C and finally late night or early morning we have to turn the heat on. Jeff has not been able to figure out the thermostat installation yet, I thought he had it so I blogged that he had it installed. Anyway, when that gets installed hopefully it will be more automatic instead of us having to constantly switch things around. Of course we still have to open and close windows.

Well I need to take a shower and get this day started. Hope you all have a great day.

What is on your to do list today?

Oh and next week, lets try to get our house tours up to share.

Company

Last evening some friends of our came over to visit and see where we live now. They have four children and it was interesting to realize that this really is a small space. There was no where for the kids to play except outside and when it got too cold we came inside. Once there the only place they wanted to play was in my bedroom. Maybe because it had steps leading up to it and/or that it has a sliding door? Anyway that is where they wanted to be.

It looks like if we entertain anyone with children it will have to be on a day nice enough that they can play outside. It is nice that we have a play ground just a few feet from our RV. We can see and hear them from here. Plus there is only one other camper here in the park right now.

I am thinking that soup sounds good. I think it is a great food to cook in an RV as well. Just put it in the crock pot and let it go. Maybe next time our friends come over we can have a pot of soup together. If I had been thinking I would have made some yesterday for all of us.

Today both Mollie and Hannah have to work so they have to get their school work done in a timely manner. We need to take Joy's car in for an oil change and do a load of laundry at Kristy's.

This evening the Bible School will be presenting their concert at the church in Hardesty and we plan to attend. Its at 7pm.

I ended up sorting through about 6 or 7 totes and emptying them out yesterday so yeah for us. I already know which ones I want to sort through today. Th last (I think) tote with glass jars and the totes of pictures. The storage trailer is looking better and better. One of my main goals was to get all the food in glass jars into the RV so when it freezes it wont harm it. That is almost done now.

Monday is laundry day

Today Joy and I took the laundry to the laundry mat. We did 5 regular washers full and a big blanket in the big washer. I was happy to see my friend Dee Dee. I hadn't seen her in a long time. I knew she had bought a new house and come to find out she is just across the pasture from where we are now. Maybe we can spend some time together now that we are almost neighbors.

Jeff and I talked this weekend and decided to try to go through a few totes from the storage trailer each day. Today Joy helped me sort through three totes. I was then able to move things around to get more stuff up on shelves and out of the aisle. Our goal is to some day to downsize the 30 foot trailer to a 24 foot trailer.

Tomorrow I hope to go through all of the totes that have pictures in them and consolidate them into less totes.

Saturday Chores

We have a few things on the to do list for today that I am anxious to get done. Jeff and I started on the list last night and got two items completed, yeah.

1. Jeff color my hair DONE

2. Install RV stabilizers under camper DONE

3. Debbie cut Jeff's hair DONE

4. Install skirting around RV ABOUT 1/4 DONE

The skirting will allow us to insulate the RV, make it more attractive and will allow for some storage out of site. We will be storing things like the Bar B Q and charcoal in plastic totes under the RV.

5. Put together the corner section of the couch sectional and install it. DONE

6. Move the videos and such to the cabinet under the TV so they are not under the end table. DONE

Joy is on her way home to our new abode for the first time and I want to have this all done by the time she arrives.

We are thinking about going to Amarillo next weekend to shop and pick up supplies for the next projects. What are our next projects? Well I will tell you.

I want to buy a tie rack and install it in my bedroom to hang up my necklaces. They are still packed and then I can get my jewelry out.

Install a coat rack behind the divider curtain to hang our towels to dry. That way they wont be so visible in the living area.

We want to tear the steps to our bedroom out, they are flimsy and destined to break some day. We want to replace the steps with wood steps that have a storage place under the step. Kind of like this....

This is a picture I found of some other person's RV where they remade the steps. We don't have carpet so we wont have to tear that out like he did but we will have to try to stain the steps to match or contrast with the rest of the wood. I will probably put some sand in the varnish or do something to make the steps non slippery.

Its kind of fun to look around the RV and find the wasted or unused storage space and make changes that allow you to utilize that space. Jeff and I were talking and we wondered if we will ever run out of things to do to the RV. I wonder too.

We've been here two weeks

It has been two weeks since we moved into the RV. I thought I'd give a report on how we are doing and how we are liking our new abode.

It has actually been very easy to get used to the small space and togetherness. Our family always spent our time mostly together even in the large house so this is just a bit more closeness. When everyone is up and moving around there does tend to be a traffic jam so we are learning to back up and allow others to pass.

We are constantly making improvements to make the RV easier to live in. For instance this weekend we will be installing the RV skirting to make the RV look better and to insulate it for winter. I plan to add insulation to the skirting. We will also be installing stabilizer jacks to make movement inside the RV when people walk around less noticeable.

We are still waiting on the corner piece to the sectional couch. That will be a nice improvement when that comes in.

Just yesterday I ordered shades to install on the outside of the windows to keep the suns rays to a minimum.

I also found a place I want another coat rack installed to hold the towels after a shower. We use our towels 3 or 4 times between washings so we each pick out a color and use that same towel until we wash again.

I haven't gotten input from Hannah but yesterday I was talking about maybe we need to start looking for a larger RV and Mollie said, "No, I like this one". That was good to hear because it was because of the girls that I would want a bigger RV. Their room is coming along nicely as we make changes, add shelves and they put up posters and such.

Remember, the house tour will happen soon. As soon as the corner sectional comes in and we get the skirting installed. Should be very soon. Hope you are all getting your homes ready to share.

Guest post by my friend Yolanda

ITS FOR THE BIRDS.

Here is a very simple little project. I used to have some "real" bird feeders, but they were totally worn out and broken quite a while ago....

So, I decided to make one out of a 2 liter soda bottle I rescued from my son's house over the weekend. If you would like to do this, all you need is a plastic soda bottle, a wire coat hanger, a pencil, a little bit of tape, a paper punch (optional,) a knife and a pair of pliers that can cut wire.

First, I poked tiny holes in the bottom of the bottle to drain any rain that gets in there. Just above the ridge nearest the bottom of the bottle, I used a knife to cut two 4-inch horizontal cuts. Then I cut up from the middle of each one about 2 inches and folded the little triangles back into the feeder. You can see that in this picture.

Next, I lined the sharp edges with a bit of masking tape. I punched a hole under each opening and stuck a pencil all the way through to make perches for the birds.

Then I cut the straight bottom part of a wire coat hanger off, using the wire cutter tool on our pliers, and bent the hanger so the little curved parts could fit into two small slits I made near the top with a knife.

Then I filled the bottom with some mixed bird seed. Of course, you could use any kind you like, or even little crumbs and things from the kitchen.

By that time, I was on a roll, and so took a disposable aluminum pie pan, punched 3 holes in the rim, several tiny holes in the bottom and used some cotton twine to hang it and filled it with some of the sunflower seeds from our garden then hung it outside too.

Here you can see the whole assembly.

I did not make the suet holder, but I don't think it would be very hard to rig up something for this and there are recipes online to make your own suet cakes.

So, here is our very humble bird feeding station, all ready for winter!

Bread machine country white bread

Recipe for bread machine.

Country White Bread

1 cup warm milk (110°F - 115°F / 45°C)
1 1/2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 large egg
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
4 cups bread flour
1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
Place ingredients in the bread machine pan in the order suggested by the manufacturer. (Usually wet ingredients first, then dry and lastly the yeast.)
Select the Basic bread cycle and start machine.
Makes one (1 1/2 or 2 pound) loaf.

Cook's Note: Because of the milk and raw egg, do not use the time delay for this recipe.

Since my oven is microscopic I will be using my bread machine to make bread more often. Today I am gathering recipes and filing them here for my future reference.

For Oklahoma voters

There is a large number of State Questions on the Nov. 2nd ballot. Many need considerable thought due the legalese language used in law. It is okay to make a list of the SQ numbers with a yes or no and take it to the ballot box with you. This gives you the opportunity to make your decision when you have time to consider the issues.

November 2, 2010 Election – State Questions Simplified

SQ 744 – A yes vote will require the state to spend at least the regional average on common schools. No money is provided to do this. It will cause your taxes to be raised by 32%, or cut other state services and agencies by 20% or use a combination of these.

SQ 746 – A yes vote will require those voting to show proof of identity -– voter identity.

SQ 747 – A yes vote will place an 8 year term limit on all state-wide elected offices, except the Corporation Commission which will have a limit of 12 years.

SQ 748 – A yes vote changes the number of people on the Apportionment Committee from 3 to 7 and makes it bipartisan The Lt. Governor will serve as the non-voting Chairman. This committee is used only when the state legislature fails to come to an agreement after the 10 year census taking. (This addresses setting the boundaries for Senate & Representative districts.)

SQ 750 – A yes vote would require fewer signatures on initiative and referendum petitions. The number of signatures required would be determined by the number voting in the last election for Governor instead of the last Presidential Election. You would probably need to vote on more State Questions if this is approved.

SQ 751 – A yes vote makes English the common language of Oklahoma and would be used for official actions except when the Federal laws requires otherwise.

SQ 752 – A yes vote increases the members on the Judicial Nominating Commission (which recommends candidates for appointment by the Governor as Judges). The Speaker of the House and the Senate Pro-Tempore would each appoint an additional member.

SQ 754 – A yes vote will stop any requirement for a certain amount of money to be spent on any one area and stop any requirement to equal the amount of money spent by other states. It will allow the Legislature to make decisions about the state budget as it does now.

SQ755 – A yes vote stops Oklahoma Courts from using Sharia law (Islamic law based on the Koran & teaching of Mohammed). A yes vote also stops the use of International law to decide cases in our state courts.

SQ 756 – A yes vote will allow Oklahomans to opt-out of Federal Health Care and determine their own doctors and type of medical treatment.

SQ 757 – A yes vote increases the maximum amount saved in the Rainy Day Fund from 10% to 15% based on the amount of the previous year’s state budget.

November voting is important but you need to be informed so you vote your conscience.

Shariah Muslim law

This was written by a woman born in Egypt as a Muslim.
This is not hearsay, and it will scare the life out of you.
Make sure you read the paragraph (in red) towards the end.

Joys of Muslim Women
By Nonie Darwish

In the Muslim faith a Muslim man can marry a child as young as 1 year old and have sexual intimacy with this child. Consummating the marriage by 9.
The dowry is given to the family in exchange for the woman (who becomes his slave) and for the purchase of the private parts of the woman, to use her as a toy.

Even though a woman is abused she can not obtain a divorce.
To prove rape, the woman must have (4) male witnesses.
Often after a woman has been raped, she is returned to her family and the family must return the dowry. The family has the right to execute her (an honor killing) to restore the honor of the family. Husbands can beat their wives 'at will' and he does not have to say why he has beaten her.

The husband is permitted to have (4 wives) and a temporary wife for an hour (prostitute) at his discretion.
The Shariah Muslim law controls the private as well as the public life of the woman.
In the West World ( America ) Muslim men are starting to demand Shariah Law so the wife can not obtain a divorce and he can have full and complete control of her. It is amazing and alarming how many of our sisters and daughters attending American Universities are now marrying Muslim men and submitting themselves and their children unsuspectingly to the Shariah law.
By passing this on, enlightened American women may avoid becoming a slave under Shariah Law.
Ripping the West in two.
Author and lecturer Nonie Darwish says the goal of radical Islamists is to impose Shariah law on the world, ripping Western law and liberty in two.

She recently authored the book, Cruel and Usual Punishment: The Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law.
Darwish was born in Cairo and spent her childhood in Egypt and Gaza before immigrating to America in 1978, when she was eight years old. Her father died while leading covert attacks on Israel . He was a high-ranking Egyptian military officer stationed with his family in Gaza .
When he died, he was considered a "shahid," a martyr for jihad. His posthumous status earned Nonie and her family an elevated position in Muslim society.
But Darwish developed a skeptical eye at an early age. She questioned her own Muslim culture and upbringing.. She converted to Christianity after hearing a Christian preacher on television.
In her latest book, Darwish warns about creeping sharia law - what it is, what it means, and how it is manifested in Islamic countries.
For the West, she says radical Islamists are working to impose sharia on the world. If that happens, Western civilization will be destroyed. Westerners generally assume all religions encourage a respect for the dignity of each individual. Islamic law (Sharia) teaches that non-Muslims should be subjugated or killed in this world.
Peace and prosperity for one's children is not as important as assuring that Islamic law rules everywhere in the Middle East and eventually in the world.
While Westerners tend to think that all religions encourage some form of the golden rule, Sharia teaches two systems of ethics - one for Muslims and another for non-Muslims. Building on tribal practices of the seventh century, Sharia encourages the side of humanity that wants to take from and subjugate others.
While Westerners tend to think in terms of religious people developing a personal understanding of and relationship with God, Sharia advocates executing people who ask difficult questions that could be interpreted as criticism.
It's hard to imagine, that in this day and age, Islamic scholars agree that those who criticize Islam or choose to stop being Muslim should be executed. Sadly, while talk of an Islamic reformation is common and even assumed by many in the West, such murmurings in the Middle East are silenced through intimidation.
While Westerners are accustomed to an increase in religious tolerance over time, Darwish explains how petro dollars are being used to grow an extremely intolerant form of political Islam in her native Egypt and elsewhere.
(In twenty years there will be enough Muslim voters in the U.S. To elect the President by themselves! Rest assured they will do so... You can look at how they have taken over several towns in the USA ... Dearborn Mich. Is one... And there are others...)
I think everyone in the U.S. Should be required to read this, but with the ACLU, there is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on!
It is too bad that so many are disillusioned with life and Christianity to accept Muslims as peaceful.. Some may be but they have an army that is willing to shed blood in the name of Islam.. The peaceful support the warriors with their finances and own kind of patriotism to their religion. While America is getting rid of Christianity from all public sites and erasing God from the lives of children the Muslims are planning a great jihad on America ...
Today the girls are going to get busy on their school work because this begins a new work week for Hannah who is hostess at a local restaurant for two hours during the noon rush.
While she works, Mollie and I do a load of laundry and any other errands we have to do.

This evening the girls and I are going to the first ever woman's meeting at our church. The group is going to meet to sew the little pillowcase dresses for the African girls. They also make shorts for boys. I will bring my sewing machine and help sew. I had wanted to make these dresses for a while and now I have an opportunity to do it.

Joy will be home this weekend for several days while the choir goes on tour. She is not in choir this semester. I think she is going to join next semester though.

I made a fly catcher and it started to catch flies right away. Now if I just had some more 2 litre bottles to make more. When we moved I threw away a large black trash bag of empty bottles. Who knew?

I think I may get my bread machine out of the storage trailer and put a loaf of bread on to make. Its getting to be soup weather.

Todays to do list:
1. tidy 5er
2. do a load of laundry
3. make a loaf of bread
4. put a pot of soup on to cook in the crock pot
5. work on the storage trailer

Homemade disinfecting wipes

Today while I was catching up on my blog reading I ran across this hint on Crystal Miller's blog for making homemade disinfecting wipes. I always want to buy the disposable ones but I don't want to use more paper products than I need so this idea appealed to me. She uses cut up t-shirts and instead of Clorox she uses more natural cleaners. That appealed to me as well. For instructions visit:
http://www.liverenewed.com/2009/09/homemade-clorox-wipes.html
