My kitchen tour

The girls cleaning. They used a lemon fragrance oil in the soap water and it sure smelled good. As you can see, we don't have curtians in this room. We live in the country and so I only have curtians in bathrooms and for looks, not privacy if at all. We have curtians in the school room and I am always asking the girls to open them.

This is a view looking from the office into the kitchen. We use our kitchen all the time so it isn't just for fancy.

This is the view from the pantry. My pantry is BIG and I love it. I could use a room size pantry though.

The stove top and the counter with stools is where a lot of cooking, chopping, slicing and such goes on.

Straight ahead you can see my pantry. The fridge is on the very right side of this photo, then the dishwasher and then sink. Beyond the kitchen aid is a double oven. The ovens are very small and I had to get rid of many of my pans because they don't fit. The kitchen had carpet when we bought this house and kitchen carpet and messy me don't mix. It wasn't long before we took the carpet out and painted the floor. The floor still looked bad, even after being swept and mopped so we ended up putting this flooring down. We still have to get the edging put down and then it will be done. To the left is the office.

Baked spring rolls

The girls and I just finished the spring rolls. We sliced 4 large onions, chopped about 15 baby carrots and the rest the same. This made 19 spring rolls without meat and then we added 1 pound ground sausage and made 26 more spring rolls. If I had added 1 more onion I think it would have made 50 rolls which is 2 packages of wrappers.

Now I want to try baking won tons in the oven. I love spring rolls and won tons but the smell of them frying in oil just about over whelms me and then the house smells like fried food for days. I thought this might make a difference so this is a test.

For supper tonight we will have spring rolls and rice.

Kitchen tour

I know several ladies have done home tours and I love looking at them. I was thinking about just doing a kitchen tour. So ladies clean your kitchen and take some pictures. Then do a blog post about them and send me the link and we can have kitchen pictures.
I was telling Yolanda that then someday ladies will look at the pictures of our kitchens and say, oh look at those old time kitchens. This will be fun. Please join in.
Maybe take pictures of your kitchen clean, then while baking or cooking. Lets do it.

Baked spring rolls

6-8 onions (sliced as thin as possible)

1 package rice noodles (soak in water, then snip with kitchen scissors)

3-5 carrots ( grated)

2 # ground turkey or sausage

2 egg yolks (save the white to seal the wrappers)

3-8 bulbs garlic (minced)

1/3 c. sugar

Mix in a large bowl with your hands, try to get it mixed well.Place a spoonful into a spring roll wrapper. Use the egg white to seal it closed after you wrap it up.

Place on oiled cookie sheet, turn to coat. Bake at 350 degrees until brown. We have always fried these in oil, but I saw somewhere that you can bake these to make them a bit healthier. So I am going to try it.

Mollie is not eating meat right now so I think I will make some for her without the sausage.

I love the old pictures. Notice the lady in the 4th picture down, she has what looks like a more out door type hat on.

I got 4 stitches

When I went to the doctor today he decided to remove the whole lesion as he called it instead of just a needle biopsy. It was not quite the size of a dime. I ended up with four stitches. Well I will be glad when it is healed and not itching anymore. He said we should get the results back yet this week. He is pretty sure it isn't cancer. I am sure too.

Joy is doing so well at college

Even though Joy went to college two years early she has been doing great. She has been at the top of her class consistently since she started. She called today and said she got 110 % on a test today.

It was hard to let her go so young (16) but I knew she was not only academically ready but that she was emotionally ready as well. She is probably more mature than many of her class mates who are 2-4 years her senior.

The only regret is that she didn't get her drivers license before she went to college. So her entire first year she has been unable to drive home to visit. This summer she will get that taken care of.

I am ready for her school to be out for the year because she doesn't come home over spring break or fall break like most college students do because she goes on tour with the school choir. The spring tour is almost a month long. She said she may not go on tour next year, we will see. Also when she gets her license we can let her use a car and she can go to her sisters sometimes on weekends. Kaleena is only two hours from her.

Even big kids say funny things.

I asked Mollie to put some iodine on my neck and Hannah yelled out "remember your autopsy tomorrow mom I mean biopsy."

Now I can say I have seen it all.

This is a fancy chicken coop with a fancy price to match. I can look at the beautiful pictures but I sure cant afford one like this.

Free seeds

I just wrote a long old post and my clumsy fingers deleted mid stream. I hate when that happens.

Ok here we go again.

I wrote to the Dinner garden and asked for seeds to give to folks who wanted them. They sent 15 packages of seeds with about 5 different kinds of veggies. Each tiny bag has several seeds.
I think I will use mine to grow a separate garden to show how much food can be grown from so few seeds.
I now have 15 packages of seeds to give to anyone who would like to have them. If you would like a package, leave a comment with your email and I will email you for your address. I will give away 5 packages on this blog and give the other 10 to local folks.

Starting seeds indoors

Yep, its a snowing and a blowing but I am still starting some seeds. I am hoping to grow seedlings to sell at the farmers market. This is a picture of my light shelves. I put the silver insulation stuff I have on the shelves to reflect the light and warmth.
The salad stuff I planted quite a while ago didn't do so good so I tossed it.

I just learn by doing and sometimes it doesn't work. How else can I learn?

I will start some more next week.

Jeff is at his desk singing, Hey dude, don't take it bad, take a sad song and make it better. I am laughing so hard I can hardly type. I asked him if he had just said Hey dude and he said yes it just came out wrong. He was trying to sing Hey Jude. He is such a crack up.

Crochet rug

After Christmas I was able to buy quite a bit of fabric for 61 cents a yard at Wal Mart. It was Christmas fabric but it was so cheap I couldn't pass it up. One day I decided that it would make good rag rugs so I tore it into long strips and sewed the strips together. Then I rolled it up into a big ball. Lastly I crochet it into a beautiful rag rug. This is the second one I made. The first one I sent to Joy for her dorm room.

I have enough fabric to make a few more rugs. I am working on a green and white rug that has a bit of red in it too.

This rug is very well made and will last for many many years. It measures approx. 22 inches by 34 inches. It will sell for $40.00. This rug is not from the Christmas fabric. The white had stick children and yellow busses and the blue had some things like that too.

I changed my mind again. surprised?????

My plan is for a hoop house neater and not as wide as the one above.

It will be much taller than this one. I will be able to stand up in it.

Ok I decided I need my greenhouse more than any chickens do so I am just going to build a sort of move able greenhouse type structure for them.

It will be 6 feet by 8 feet. My main worry was building nesting boxes but after looking around I see I can just build nesting shelves with a lip on them. I can do that.

I will take pictures as I am building this thing so you can see what my plan is.

I wanted it to be light enough to move around so the ground doesn't bet icky in one spot. I have lots of places I can move it. I will put a rope on the front so I can pull it.

Did I mention that I ordered my chicks and they will be in March 8th?

They will be inside the garage for several weeks. Or maybe a week or two then out to the greenhouse and then on to their own house. That way we can use the garage to make stone. I just have to figure out how I want to house them while they are babies. I have done it different every time I have gotten chicks. Wonder what I will come up with this time?

Updat on Pastor Fred Huff

This note is from Saundra, Freds wife.

Still waiting for a time. The surgery will not be much more than a procedure similar to a heart cath. Barbara Myers and I aren’t sure what we heard, but we think they are inserting two filters close to the kidneys that will catch any traveling blood clots. The clots have not been caused by the atrial fib but are coming from the legs and his inactivity since the surgery. (of course he perked up at that!) The neurologist may do his follow up appointment while we are here since it’s the same floor which will save us from coming back next week. The atrial fib is better and the lung specialist agrees that the heart rhythm may take care of itself once the concussion heals.

Thank you all so much for your prayers. We are so grateful to have praying friends agreeing with us in prayer.

Gilbert

I attended first grade in 1963-1964 in Hays, Kansas. In my class was a little boy named Gilbert. I liked Gilbert. Gilbert liked me. We used to chase each other around the jungle gym at recess.
In December my birthday came around so mom had a class birthday party for me at our house. Every kid was invited and every kid came. It was an unseasonable warm year because I remember we ate outside.
Later in the spring Gilbert had a birthday. He too invited every kid in the class. We were going out of town but I convinced mom and dad to let me take Gilbert his gift first.
Gilbert lived in a big old apartment building. It was on the wrong side of the tracks so to speak. When we arrived we were packed and loaded into the car and I was to run in and give Gilbert my gift and go so we could get on the road.
When I got into Gilbert's apartment he was sitting on an ottoman crying. The party should have been well under way but there were no kids there. I guess their parents wouldn't let them come because Gilbert's family was poor. I went out and told my parents. They let me go back inside and play with Gilbert for about half an hour. I will never forget how hurt Gilbert was. I felt bad because every kid came to my party. It wasn't fair.
That was a great lesson to me I have never forgotten. It is also a lesson I have taught every one of my children.
Do not judge a person by where they live or their income. Judge them by their hearts and mouths and actions.
Say it together girls. Just because a person is poor doesn't make them a bad person.

I have thought of Gilbert through the years and prayed for him. I have always wondered how his life turned out. I have always prayed for his happiness and that he overcame the obstacles set before him.
Gilbert I hope you are happy and that you know the Lord.

A man who is strong.

Today when I shopped at United I got in line behind a man buying several bags of old bananas for 33 cents a bag. I asked him if there were any more like that and he said no, do you want some? I said no I will wait, I just like them for banana bread. He said he makes banana bread too and his family likes it.
The sacker bagged his purchases and asked if he needed help out. He said No I am a man and I can carry these and much more. I got a chuckle out of it. In the car later Hannah and I bantered about the strong man.
He can bake banana bread. And his family likes it. He can carry all these groceries and more. He is a big strong man. I like men who are proud to be men and like being strong. And are not ashamed of being big strong men.

Neat scrubbie idea

New bedding

After I went to the doctor, who scheduled me for a biopsy on the neck thing, I went to Wal Mart looking for new bedding for Joy's old room. I found the bed in a bag things for $35.00 so I got one for my bed, King size and one for Joy's bed, queen size. When I got to the car I looked at my receipt and realized I got charged $48.96 for one of the sets, so back into Wal Mart I went. It took a bit but I got my money.

The lady said, well if it doesn't ring up right that means she didn't buy it here. I said I just bought it a few minutes ago. She finally went away and the other lady got me taken care of. I wonder how many people don't look at their receipts and get over charged? A bunch I bet.

Anyway, I am going to get one more set for the other bed room and then all the beds will have new bedding. Yeah. I also bought rods to put up the new closet curtains I made from old sheets and a egg crate for Joy's bed. The rods are for the curtains and the egg crate is for the bed. It sounded weird when I read it back to myself.

Our old preacher and family are coming to visit in a week so I wanted to get everything gussied up for their visit. This might be a good time to take pictures to have a home tour thing.

Jeff worked over 12 hours today and he is bushed. Poor fella.

Tomorrow I have to get some photo's taken of my soaps for my new web page my son in law is designing. I was suppose to have had them done a day or so ago.

I got the last set of shop lights put on my growing shelves with Mollie's help today.

I figured out a good way to get holes in the bottoms of my plastic planters. Heat up the soldering gun and let Hannah go after it. I think she got holes put in everything I wanted them in. I keep making more of those sub irrigation planters. If they work, which they better, I will have lots of them to sell at the farmers market. If they don't sell I will sure have a lot of cilantro. I bet they sell though.

I need to pick up more cilantro and catnip seeds.

LESSON LEARNED: Don't use fish emulsion on indoor plants for a fertilizer. It stinks to high heaven and lingers for weeks. So if you come to visit and it smells fishy, sorry.

Goin to the doctor

I am about ready to leave to go to the doctor. I have a spot on the back of my neck that never goes away I need checked. Jeff also wants him to check my blood pressure.

I read a joke about a man who went to the doctor with his wife. The nurse asked the lady how tall she was and she answered 5 foot 8 inches and then the nurse asked her what her weight was. She replied 158 pounds.
The nurse proceeded to weigh and measure the lady and pronounced her to be 5 foot 5 inches and 180 pounds. She then took her blood pressure and told the lady it was high. The woman replied, of course it's high, I came in here tall and thin and you made me short and fat.

A nice day at last

Its 52 degrees out right now. The sun is shining. Thank you Lord.
I went outside in my bare feet and sat in the sun on the front porch for a bit. How nice. The snow is finally melted for the most part.

I think I would not do well in Alaska where there is 6 months of darkness. My soul needs light.

I feel like doing something. I don't know what.

I know I need to get the guest room spiffed up and ready.

I think the house needs a good cleaning and then it may be warm enough to begin working on the raised beds again.

I do need to order a semi load of aggregate and three pallets of Portland cement so we can get busy on some stone orders.

I wish I could devise a sort of cover for the drive way where we work so it would protect us from rain and heat. I thought of how it might be done but when I went out to measure I found I needed the cover to be about 3 feet wider than what I was thinking of would cover.

I know of no way to extend it without another plan. I am wondering if I could just go out about 4 or 5 feet from the garage doors and then build my shade area. That way it would not be directly attached to the garage and would not look at funny that it is not as wide as the garage openings.
I have to do this the cheapest way possible. I will think on that for a bit and see.

I finally decided where I want to put my next greenhouse. I had made a garden area to the north of the house and have rhubarb planted there. I did grow a few other things there but for some reason it just didn't seems to work.

There is a spigot right in the middle of the garden so I could actually build my greenhouse right over it and have the water inside. We don't use that spigot for anything else so it would work. Now I just have to decide what size to build.

I was thinking about 14 feet by 40.5 feet, but since I have such a great area to put it, I am thinking about doubling the size. So it would be 14 feet by 81 feet. The cost for the frame would be about $600.00 so I will have to wait until I make and sell more stone. Then there are additional costs, such as the skin, wood, gearbox, and pipe for ventilation of the sides. I would probably be able to build it under $1,000.00 easily.

If I do that then I can revamp my old smaller greenhouse and use it for a brooder house and hen house. It is actually in a good area to fence off for a run for them. It seems like if I think and think, usually I figure out the best way to do things.

Pro life or Pro choice?

I am amazed that the pro choice people think they will win in the end. How could they? Their side keeps getting smaller (they kill their own) and the pro life side keeps getting bigger, they have babies and want life for them.
Planned parenthood would be more aptly named Murder on demand or Planned murder. Theirs is no planning, at least not for parenthood. Its only plan is for death. How can people be so blind as not to see this?
I am sorry for ladies who have had an abortion and now regret it. How their hearts must hurt. God can and will forgive and ease your hurt if you ask, but YOU do have to ask.
Hopefully with the new technology where you can see a baby in the womb as a baby it will help girls and women to make the choice to keep their babies or at least birth them and put them up for adoption.
Family planning should be done before conception NOT AFTER.
If you have had an abortion, ask God for forgiveness and I am sorry for your hurt.
If you are contemplating abortion, seek help somewhere that their goal is not just killing for money.
If you think abortion is a woman's right, God help you.
Sin is sin is sin. Murder is murder is murder. Murder is sin, the Bible tells us so. The Bible doesn't say murder is only a sin if it is an adult or someone you don't like. Its a commandment not to kill.

The day I became a vegetable

When I was a little girl of about 6 or 7 I had a bicycle wreck. It had rained and my bike slipped in a water puddle as I was rounding the corner on our street. Apparently I fell and hit my head on the curb. It knocked me out and the lady who lived on the corner found me unconscious laying there in the gutter.

She was unable to get me and the bike to my home so she managed to alert my mom. Mom brought me home and laid me on the couch. I think I was still out or very groggy. She then went in to take a bath. She said she was in the bath and I let out the most ear piercing scream of pain she had ever heard. She jumped out of the tub and ran to me. I guess I was still screaming.

She called dad home from work and they took me to the tiny local hospital. There they tried to x-ray my head but dad said there were so many hands holding my head still it was hard to see the x-ray. In any case they decided I had a very severe brain concussion.

The doctor told my parents that I probably wouldn't make it and that if I did I would most likely be a vegetable. Apparently they forgot to tell me because I recovered and here I am.

Back to my story, while I was in the hospital I was suppose to lay very still so the swelling and bruising on my brain could heal. Nowadays they would have knocked me out and I probably would really be a veggie then.

Anyway, I was on the ground floor so my sisters would come to my window to visit me. Someone gave me a big bag of M & M's, quite a treat for sure. I would get out of bed and sort the candy by colors on a chair. Then the nurse would come in and catch me out of bed, scold me and sweep all my sorted M & M's back into the bag.

This scene was repeated many times. Finally the doctor told my parents it looked like I was going to make it and they couldn't keep me confined to bed anyway so they might as well take me home.

I used to make my mom so mad by telling her she was disappointed I didn't die. That was mean. Sorry MOM.

In any case if you know me in real life and you think I am strange, well I'm a vegetable so what do you expect?

My mom always used to say I was a fruit or a nut but I was no vegetable. lol.
The funny thing is Jeff had a bad accident when he was about the same age and he was suppose to be dead or a vegetable too.

Too bad we didn't turn into vegetarians, maybe we would be skinny.

What do you get when you mix two vegetables?????

Prayer request

They have placed Pastor Fred Huff in the Perryton hospital this morning with pneumonia. Please pray for his complete recovery. He needs a MIRACLE !

He just got out of the hospital in Amarillo after having brain surgery for the brain bleeds from when he fell on the ice in Oklahoma City.

Bless his heart, he is having quite a time of it. Please pray for Fred and his wife Saundra too.

Sub irrigation planters

Today I planted 6 / 3 litre sub irrigation planters of cilantro and one 2 litre planter of catnip. My plan is to make these and plant them as I go and sell them at the Farmers Market as little gardens. People can take these home and clip the cilantro as needed and it grows back. The planting is already done and the cilantro/catnip is grown and ready to harvest. One package of cilantro planted 6 planters. I planted somewhat densely. I figure no thinning will need to be done. It grows thick outside anyway.

I am curious as to how these planters work. So we will see

The lettuce I planted and was growing on my kitchen counter seems kind of puny. I think I will toss them and try again. Now I have to grow lights to put them under.

Third Grade Class Is In Session The Apostolic Junior Academy now has an enrollment of 86 students. We have been open for less than one month. All are receiving an education in our Christian Curriculum. What a challenge.

The Third Grade class is in progress. As the picture shows, we need more desks. We only have a total of 12 desks in the entire school we need 38 more to complete phase one for 100 students. Phase two will take us up to 200 students and we will need 100 desks at that time. 'Each desk is designed for two students. (If they are small students)

Mr. Wandwasi is teaching 16 students who are sharing 4 desks. Four students per desk. This should not be. Pray with us. Thank you Mr Wandwasi for your minsitry to God's children. By April 1, 2010, we predict we meet our student capacity of 200 students. Grades 1-6. Desks cost 30. US dollars each. Ultimately we need 100 desks, we only have 12. The Academy is open to the public. What an opportunity for the Great Commission! Pray with us for this need.

The Boys dorms now has 7 orphan boys ages 7-11. 5 boys have been sponsored (adopted) by USA believers at $30 a month.

Beans, lentils and rice recipes

Homestyle Lentils and Rice
3/4 cup dry lentils
3/4 cup brown rice
4 chicken bouillon cubes
2 tablespoons dry onion
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon basil
4 cups tap water
2 tablespoons oil or other fat
In a 2-quart saucepan bring the water and oil to a boil. As the water is heating, add the lentils, rice, bouillon, and seasonings. Bring the whole thing to a nice fat boil. Reduce the heat to low. Place a lid on the lentils and allow the mixture to simmer for about 45 to 50 minutes. The water should be mostly absorbed. You may serve this as it, or topped with a little cheddar cheese if desired.

Taco Style Lentils & Rice
3/4 cup dry lentils
3/4 cup brown rice
4 cups tap water
4 beef bouillon cubes
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
In a 2-quart saucepan bring the water to a boil.
As the water is heating, add the lentils, rice, bouillon, chili powder, cumin, onion powder, and garlic powder.
Bring the whole thing to a nice fat boil.
Reduce the heat to low.
Place a lid on the lentils and allow the mixture to simmer for about 45 to 50 minutes.
The water should be mostly absorbed.
You may serve this as it, topped with a little cheddar cheese if desired.
Or you can use it to fill burritos or tacos instead.
Both ways are very tasty.

Red Beans & Rice
1 pound dry kidney beans (approximately 6 cups cooked)
2 quarts of tap water
1 pound turkey sausage
1 large onion, chopped
4 stalks of celery chopped
2 teaspoons minced fresh garlic
2 teaspoons salt
Good shot of Tabasco Sauce
Hot Cooked Brown Rice or White Rice (double the recipe for the rice)
Soak the kidney beans overnight in the tap water, or you can use the quick soak method.
Bring them to a boil in the tap water, and then let them sit, covered, on the back of the stove for an hour or two.
After you have done the initial bean preparations let them boil for about an hour or until they are getting tender.
While they cook you can prepare the vegetables and the meat.
The onion, celery and garlic will need chopping.
Fry the turkey sausage in a large skillet.
Crumble it up with a fork as it cooks.
Set the sausage aside until the beans have cooked at least an hour

Tortilla Chip Pie or Easy Taco Salad
2 - 15 oz cans kidney beans, drained OR 1 cup of dry beans, cooked tender (about 3 cups of cooked beans)
1/2 to 1 pound ground beef or turkey
1 tablespoon dry onion
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon EACH garlic powder and oregano
1/8 teaspoon pepper
15 oz can tomato sauce
3 cups whole grain corn chips or tortilla chips (read the label)
1 or 2 cups shredded cheese
I start the kidney beans in the morning, bringing them to a boil in a quart of water, and then letting them rest for an hour.
Then I simmer them until they are tender and refrigerate them until suppertime.
If you didn’t want to cook your beans from scratch, you could use canned beans.
Get your hamburger and start it to frying in a big iron skillet.
Break it up into small pieces as you go along.
When it is done clear through drain off the fat if necessary.
Put the beans, seasonings, and tomato sauce in the skillet with the meat. Stir it all up and simmer it for a few minutes to blend the flavors.
If necessary you may add a little water, but remember you want it thick: sort of like sloppy joes.
If you add too much water then you can simmer it on the stove until it thickens up to your liking.

Lentil Sloppy Joes
This protein-rich dinner is my “no-brainer:” fast, easy, filling, and something I know the whole family will eat willingly.
Cook lentils according to package directions.
Once the lentils are cooked, add directly to the sauce pan the following ingredients:
2 parts ketchup
1 part prepared mustard
1 part worchestershire sauce
Mix well, serve on buttered toast or buns.
Play with the percentages.
I usually do 1/2 cup of ketchup and
1/4 cup each of the mustard and worchestershire sauce.
If you like sloppier sloppy joes, add more sauce ingredients.

Healthy Cheap Taco Filling
Mommy Beautiful Taco Filling
Ingredients:-
2 med. Potatoes diced.-
Taco seasoning-
1 lb. ground beef-
2 C. fully cooked pinto or black beansInstructions:
1. Evenly spread diced potatoes on a plate on a paper towel. Cook potatoes in microwave for 3 minutes on high.
2. Meanwhile brown beef in a skillet. Drain away fat.
3. Cook potatoes in a separate skillet with a small amount of olive oil add taco seasoning for flavoring . (cook like breakfast potatoes)
4. Add the beef, and drained beans to the potatoes.
Fully cook for the ingredients to absorb the taco flavoring.
Serve with hard or soft taco shells.
We like to have cabbage or spinach instead of lettuce.
Tomatoes, avacodos, cheese and hold the sour cream.

Delicious Beans and Potatoes
Make mashed potatoes.
While they are cooking take cooked pinto beans, drained, cooked kidney beans, drained, or a mix, or
leftover bean soup or leftover beans that kidney or pinto beans are in them, and put them in a processor until relatively smooth.
May add salt, spices, especially chili powder &/or cumin.
Heat, then turn off burner and add grated mozzerella cheese.
Serve beans over mashed potatoes.
I enjoy serving this with stir-fried veggies, and add them to the beans and potatoes.

Jeff is trying to decide on the frames for his new glasses. We now purchase our glasses online from Zenni optical. So far I have a pair from there and so does Jeff. Joy has a pair and Courtney has two pairs. Christina was going to get some, I don't know if she has or not.
The last pair he bought from the doctors office cost about $ 460.00 so the savings are significant.
He was quite upset when he got his glasses from Zenni optical because they were so nice and he liked them so much better and they were 1/4 the price.

Got my soil cubers

Whoo hoo, I got my soil cubers in today. I got a tiny 20 cube blocker and a larger 4 cube blocker. Now I don't have to buy peat pots anymore. In the long run this should save expense.

Laverne Camp Meeting

Laverne camp meeting is set for July 23rd thru 28th. This is a family camp. We went for the first time two years ago and enjoyed it ever so much.
All meals are furnished, although helping is strongly encouraged.

There is usually a morning preaching time, lunch, afternoon preaching and then two preaching times again in the evening. Sometimes there are other activities as well.
Two years ago I think it was, Joye Watson offered a pottery class for the ladies.

Of course offering is taken to cover the cost of the camp.

There are a few dorm rooms or buildings available but these go fast so if you are interested it is best to make your reservation early.

We are going to take our 5th wheel. The campground is furnished with electricity and water at each camp site and a dump station is located close by the entrance of the camp. There is no charge to bring your camper but it is good to make an offering to cover costs.

We are going to bring our camper and Bill and Christina are bringing their tent. Between the two we will have places for both of our families to sleep.

They usually ask each church to take over the cooking and providing of one meal during camp meeting just like they do for junior and senior camps. On the designated day, people from your church bring the food, cook it, serve it and clean up. There are usually others who volunteer to help as well.

I truly enjoyed it when we went. Its just a week of soaking up God, living, eating and being with other sisters and brothers of the faith and growing.

Another highlight is the choir. At the evening service loads of people get up and go sing in th choir. Talk about good singing.

My new to me rocker

Today Jeff and I drove to Borger to pick up a wooden rocking chair I found on craigslist.
It is old but very sturdy. I think I think I will stain and varnish it. The arms are completely worn to the wood.
I am on the look out for one or two of the old rocking chairs that have arms and the seat is upholstered. I would probably recover the seat unless it was in really good shape. It does need some wood glue to tighten the arms. After the girls scrubbed it, it is lighter than appears in this picture.
Tomorrow is Valentine's day. Hope everyone gets to be with the one they love.

I laughed out loud

A little three-year-old boy is sitting on the toilet.
His mother thinks he has been in there too long,
so she goes in to see what's up.

I am so excited

Our former pastor and family who just happen to be our best friends are coming for a visit this month. I can hardly wait.
Christina says Sammy hasn't had a haircut since we went there in Sept. I think. So I bet he's a shaggy hippie.
Jeff said the other day that our life is boring without them.

We also get to see them at camp meeting this summer. I think they are going to stay in our 5th wheel with us. Cramped and fun. They are going to bring a tent so maybe some of the kids will want to sleep out there.

Then I think the kids are going to come home with us for a couple of weeks.
Last year I took Courtney, Kaitlyn, Hannah, Conchita, Dana and Shelby camping. Girls camp we called it. They didn't want to come home so the next night Bill, Christina and Sammy came and set up another tent and it rained and rained and we had so much fun. Then a raccoon came to our camp and sat by the fire eating the hot dogs the girls left on the table.
We had all dashed to our tents when the rain started pouring down. It was a good thing it didn't rain the night before because I slept in the bed of the pickup so the girls could have the tent to themselves.
We have good memories and want to continue making them.

Seedling grow shleves

Jeff bought three more shop lights and florescent bulb sets yesterday so I decided to begin putting them together and setting them up. I was able to get one set together, hung and plugged in with Hannah's help. The next set I attempted docent want to light up, I fiddled with it a bit but decided to wait until Jeff can look at it. He also has to either rewire the lights or we need to plug them into a outlet strip because six lights cannot fit into a two outlet fixture.

For now I have the seedlings that are up and growing under the set of lights I got working. 72 tomatoes and several marigolds.

I found a farmers almanac site that I could put in my zip and it would tell me when to start things indoors and out. It appears I jumped the gun a bit but at least this will give me some tomatoes to get going in the greenhouse. I don't get a chance to get any started early in there because of not being able to find seedlings until later in April or early May.

I am hoping I can transplant the tomatoes in early to mid April to the greenhouse. I will have a bunch extra because I usually only plant about a dozen or so in my greenhouse.

I may make a cloche or temporary greenhouse type thing over one set of my raised beds. I am thinking the bed by my front room window.

I ordered the book Four Seasons Harvest by Eliot Coleman. I cant wait to read it. I watched some of the videos on his site and he talks about using the greenhouses, which he heats and cools passively to garden all year round. He makes smaller greenhouse type things inside his greenhouse and grows winter hardy varieties of veggies and has done very well.

I will have to study to learn which varieties do well in our hot summers and then which would do well in our cold winters.

Trip to dentist

I had to go to the dentist today. Not my favorite thing to do. I went to a new dentist because my dentist retired.
Anyway the dental hygienist was the cutest girl named Ashley. She is pregnant with her first baby and due in five weeks. Turns out, her husband works at the same place my husband does.

I invited her to stop by next time she is going this way. She said she would so we will see. I hope she waits until she has a baby for me to snuggle.

Apparently I have some dental issues and need to see a specialist. I am going to go ahead and begin using Dr. Ellie's program in the hopes it will help. Dr. Ellie's site is listed on my right side bar.

Pastor Fred Huff

Pastor Fred and Saundra Huff from Balko. Fred fell on a patch of ice in Oklahoma City. He fell so hard and hit the back of his head so hard that it knocked him out. He went to the hospital of course and they kept him for two days I think, then released him. He has suffered from dizziness and such since. After another appt. he was told not to preach, just to rest. Several days later he was unable to walk and such so they went to the hospital and he was sent to Amarillo. This past saturday morning they did surgery because he had a brain bleed. These are pictures of him in the hospital after the surgery.

He is able to sit up. Praise

I like him with hair better.

Ouch, that looks like a big owie. Praise God he seems to be on the mend now. Fred is about 6feet 5inches tall so not every place has beds or recliners that are comfortable for him. At home he had to sleep in a recliner with a chair placed at the feet because he was to lay still.

Pray for Fred's continued recovery and complete healing.

Not too many men are getting the calling from God or at least not many are taking it and we need to lift up the pastors who already have taken the call and keep them in our prayers daily.
