For Oklahoma voters

There is a large number of State Questions on the Nov. 2nd ballot. Many need considerable thought due the legalese language used in law. It is okay to make a list of the SQ numbers with a yes or no and take it to the ballot box with you. This gives you the opportunity to make your decision when you have time to consider the issues.

November 2, 2010 Election – State Questions Simplified


SQ 744 – A yes vote will require the state to spend at least the regional average on common schools. No money is provided to do this. It will cause your taxes to be raised by 32%, or cut other state services and agencies by 20% or use a combination of these.


SQ 746 – A yes vote will require those voting to show proof of identity -– voter identity.



SQ 747 – A yes vote will place an 8 year term limit on all state-wide elected offices, except the Corporation Commission which will have a limit of 12 years.


SQ 748 – A yes vote changes the number of people on the Apportionment Committee from 3 to 7 and makes it bipartisan The Lt. Governor will serve as the non-voting Chairman. This committee is used only when the state legislature fails to come to an agreement after the 10 year census taking. (This addresses setting the boundaries for Senate & Representative districts.)



SQ 750 – A yes vote would require fewer signatures on initiative and referendum petitions. The number of signatures required would be determined by the number voting in the last election for Governor instead of the last Presidential Election. You would probably need to vote on more State Questions if this is approved.


SQ 751 – A yes vote makes English the common language of Oklahoma and would be used for official actions except when the Federal laws requires otherwise.


SQ 752 – A yes vote increases the members on the Judicial Nominating Commission (which recommends candidates for appointment by the Governor as Judges). The Speaker of the House and the Senate Pro-Tempore would each appoint an additional member.


SQ 754 – A yes vote will stop any requirement for a certain amount of money to be spent on any one area and stop any requirement to equal the amount of money spent by other states. It will allow the Legislature to make decisions about the state budget as it does now.


SQ755 – A yes vote stops Oklahoma Courts from using Sharia law (Islamic law based on the Koran & teaching of Mohammed). A yes vote also stops the use of International law to decide cases in our state courts.


SQ 756 – A yes vote will allow Oklahomans to opt-out of Federal Health Care and determine their own doctors and type of medical treatment.


SQ 757 – A yes vote increases the maximum amount saved in the Rainy Day Fund from 10% to 15% based on the amount of the previous year’s state budget.



November voting is important but you need to be informed so you vote your conscience.
