A Mirror or two way glass? How to tell.

How can you tell when you are in a room, restroom, Motel etc.
With a mirror or a 2-way glass?

Do you know how to determine if a mirror is 2-way or not? A policewoman who travels all over the US and gives seminars and techniques for businesswomen passed this on.

When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms,
etc., how many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror
hanging on the wall is a real mirror, or actually a 2-way mirror (I.e.,they
can see you, but you can't see them)? There have been many cases of people
installing 2-way mirrors in female changing rooms . It is very difficult
to positively identify the surface by looking at it.

Here's how:
I thought it was quite interesting! And I know in about 30 seconds you're
going to do what I did and find the nearest mirror.

So, how do we determine with any amount of certainty what type of mirror we are looking at?

Just conduct this simple test:

Place the tip of your fingernail
against the reflective surface and

if there is a GAP between your fingernail
and the image of the nail,

then it is GENUINE mirror.

However, if your Fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES
the image of your nail, then BEWARE! IT IS A 2-WAY MIRROR!

So remember, every time you see a mirror, do the "fingernail test." It doesn't cost you anything.

JACINTO, THE MUTE FROM LAST WEEK, VERY ILL
As soon as I arrived, Jacinto came to meet me. One look told me he was very weak and his feet looked like balloons. Since I last saw him, he has developed serious anemia (post malaria complication), and his inner eye lid is blanched totally white (means a very low Hgb)! We immediately prayed and asked Jesus to fortify him with new blood. Jacinto refused to let us take him to the hospital for a transfusion, as that is the treatment of choice in someone this anemic. His mother said NO, and his father was not in the village. I keep a basic medical bag with me, so he agreed to chew de-worming tablets and start on vitamins with iron. We had a care package of beans for another family, which we divided with Jacinto.
Pastor Tomas gave him some corn as his diet consists of only “cassava root and leaves”. Cassava is an empty carbohydrate that causes severe malnutrition and eventually death if that is all a person eats. This is the case with Jacinto. He has nothing else to eat, so eats the only thing around that fills his stomach.
Needless to say, we will make a food drop to him tomorrow, and Pastor Tomas is keeping a close watch on him, since he only lives 200 yards from the church.

Anemia kills many in our area, as it comes on so slowly after having malaria, that most don’t realize they are severely ill, until their body swells and they are too weak to do anything about it.
Please keep Jacinto in your prayers as he needs a miracle transfusion, since he refuses to go to the hospital.

PEQUARIA KIDS COME TO CHRIST!
I taught 85+ kids today about faith and the healing power of (YESU—yea-soo) Jesus, followed by an altar call.
My words via my interpreter, Nelson age 14, just seem to bounce off deaf ears. Mario, our new “Evangelist Carpenter”, got up and asked to speak to them.
I’m not sure what all he said, but he got their attention right quick, and we saw their eyes “light up” as he began explaining about Jesus’ love for them.
He asked how many wanted to accept Jesus as their “friend who would never leave them”, and little hands starting popping up all over the place!
FORTY KIDS out of 85 raised their hands and came forward to confess Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
It was an awesome site to see.

The whole atmosphere changed after those kids prayed, and we believe the wall of doubt and unbelief has been broken among the younger generation.
Mario will continue going with me to guide the children into learning more about our Lord who loves them.
FYI: Mario, now 49, never got to go to school, so he learns the Bible by listening to an AUDIO Bible in Makua!
He has quite a memory.

ORPHANS UNLIMITED NOW SPECIALIZES IN 4 LEGGED AS WELL AS 2 LEGGED KIDS!

Thursday started out with a 4a.m. call from our Rovuma pastor, who oversees our goat herd.
A mother goat was found dying as they made their early morning rounds.
At the same time another goat was giving birth to twins.
We lost 2 mother goats this week because my men fed them corn, a big NO NO for goats as they can’t digest it well.
They thought it was easier than going into the bush to cut fresh greens which is their normal food.

A 4:15a.m. call to Linda Ferguson (9:15p.m TX time), saved the life of one of the twins, as Linda found me the expert advice I needed from one of the top goat breeders in Texas.
All is under control, and all remaining goats are healthy. I’ve read enough info on goats this week (forwarded by Linda) until I’m dreaming of goats!
Some fast first aid saved one of the twins who was born too weak to suck, and needed a feeding tube (modified IV tubing) to give it the electrolytes it needed to recover.
Little “Scout”, who has the markings of a paint horse, was up and bouncing around the next day, so all my neonatal nursing has come in handy. Neonates are too weak to suck when born, and must be tube fed every 3 hours to save their lives. God will use ALL your talents and help you rise to the challenge, no matter what it may be.
I praise the Lord Jesus for all the human and vet training I’ve received during my life.

So all you who donated goats, we thank you and are getting everything in order.
We purchased 2 more goats to replace the 2 we lost.
A pole and bamboo barn has been built, complete with birthing pens for the pregnant does. Tomorrow our roofing carpenters will put a tin roof over it. Pneumonia is a big problem with goats, so they must have a dry place to live during the 3 months of daily rains we receive from Dec. To March.
We’ll add more goats next year, as the rainy season is upon us. I want to keep the herd small until next April, and then expand it when fresh food is the most plentiful.

This is your Bush Bunny Vet Service doing its best to keep all under control out here.

HELPERS STILL NEEDED (part time and full time)
Thanks for all your prayers and please know that NO ONE has committed to help Eric in Feb. /March (while I’m fundraising in the USA), nor has anyone offered to help with next year’s construction program/food buying programs.
Those are still very serious needs for our ministry.

BUSH BUNNY COMING TO THE USA JANUARY 26TH.
Invitations are rolling in from several parts of the USA, so if you desire me to speak to your church or small group, please let me know ASAP before the schedule fills up.
Due to the construction challenges next year, I’ve had to cut my trip 2 weeks shorter than usual.
I’m taking dates from Feb. 12th (5th already taken) till 3rd week of March.
Looking forward to hearing from some of you soon.

Blessings,
Bush Bunny Brenda and the Balama Staff

Happy 1st Birthday Elijah

Tomorrow is Elijah's first birthday so his family came to spend the night with us. They came late Friday and we ate supper together and let Elijah open his gifts. I made him this funny sock monkey type hat. He looks so cute in it.

Tomorrow after church they are having a party for him at the church with all the church folks and the theme is monkeys, that's what made me think of the idea.

We sure had a good time together. I love those people.

Blessing Bags revisited.

Have you ever come across a homeless individual and felt totally uncomfortable?

You see them and you know they are in need, but you are not sure what to do. You know that handing them money is not the best thing. But, you also see that they clearly have some needs. Their lips are chapped. They are hungry. They are thirsty. They are asking for help.

How can you help?

Here is a simple idea - blessing bags.

This was such an easy project. We are now going to keep a few "Blessing Bags" in our car so that when we do happen to see someone on the streets who is homeless, we can hand them a Blessing Bag. I first learned of these bags from my friend, Julie. I am using the picture of her bags (see above) because the ones we took were taken in horrible lighting and turned out really grainy and hard to see what is inside of them.

If you'd like to make your own Blessing Bags, this is what you would need:

Gallon size Ziplock bags
items to go in the bags, such as:
chap stick
packages of tissues
toothbrush and toothpaste
comb
soap
trail mix
granola bars
crackers
pack of gum
band aids
mouthwash
coins (could be used to make a phone call, or purchase a food item)
hand wipes
you could also put in a warm pair of socks, and maybe a Starbucks gift card

Assemble all the items in the bags, and maybe throw in a note of encouragement. Seal the bags and stow in your car for a moment of providence.

This would be a great activity to do with some other families. Each family could bring one of the items going into the bags (ex: toothbrushes). Set up all the items around a table and walk around it with the ziplocks and fill the bags.

Dont vaccinate your child

By Dr. Mercola

Common sense would suggest that, if we are giving our children more than five dozen vaccinations from day of birth to age 18, we are over-vaccinating our children.

Yet, authorities continue to insist that "more is better" when it comes to vaccines without providing adequate scientific evidence to justify that assumption.

If you follow the CDC's recommended vaccination schedule, your child will receive 49 doses of 14 vaccines by the time he/she is 6 years of age.

And by the age of 18, the CDC recommends that children should have gotten 69 doses of 16 vaccines.

When I first started practicing medicine in 1985, it cost parents $80 to purchase vaccines for their children (plus the cost of a doctor's visit) to comply with the CDC's recommended childhood vaccination schedule.

Today, you'll pay $2200 to purchase all government recommended and mandated vaccines for a child (plus the cost of office visits) because the numbers of vaccines recommended for children have tripled in the past three decades.

Sadly though, the short term financial costs to fully vaccinate your child according to the CDC schedule may actually pale in comparison to the costs to your child's long-term health.

The list of problems related to today's vaccines, and vaccine policy, is long and troubling.

For starters:

1. Children not all biologically identical. The current one-size-fits-all approach to vaccination does not take into account differences among children's genetic profiles or immune responses based on factors such as age, weight, and overall health status.
2. Infant mortality rates between nations appears to be linked to the numbers of vaccinations given to babies before the age of 12 months. More vaccines may contribute to higher infant mortality.
3. Babies receive several vaccines at once—they may receive 8 vaccines or more simultaneously at a doctor visit (between 2 and 15 months of age). Vaccine "layering" may increase the risk for a serious vaccine reaction.
4. Vaccines have not been adequately tested for safety using methodologically sound scientific studies, so their long-term health effects are unknown. Moreover, the effects of multiple vaccines given together have not been adequately tested. And pharmaceutical companies have financed nearly all vaccine research to date, which introduces enormous bias.
5. Vaccines do not provide complete or permanent protection against infectious disease. For example, 75 percent of children who contracted chickenpox in a 2001 Maryland outbreak had been vaccinated against chickenpox. A high number of vaccinated persons also have been found in pertussis and mumps outbreaks.
6. Vaccines are not always sterile but can be contaminated with bacteria, viral fragments, and foreign human and animal DNA.
7. Vaccines may contain toxic additives (including aluminum and mercury), which can contribute to your child's toxic load.
8. Some vaccines are associated with a higher number of serious health problems, both immediate and delayed, yet healthcare professionals rarely report vaccine adverse events. Every year, more than 25,000 adverse reactions are reported to the government, including irreversible injuries and deaths. It's been estimated that this represents only about 1 to 10 percent of total vaccine reactions, which means that millions of people may have suffered vaccine reactions and injuries over the past few years.
9. Vaccines, say some researchers, may contain excitotoxins that disrupt your child's immune system (through microglial overstimulation) and damage developing brain structures, which raises his/her risk for a wide range of diseases, including autism, learning disabilities, and psychiatric disorders. New research gives evidence for a link between the high number of vaccines and the autism epidemic.
10. Many children receive even more vaccines than the vaccination schedule recommends. If you take your child to multiple health care providers or facilities, the odds are increased that your child may be given "extra" doses. Ten percent of children aged 19 to 35 months were found to have received extra vaccinations, according to a National Immunization Survey.
11. Preventing natural immune responses to environmental pathogens may not be in your child's best interest. Healthy children receive life-long benefits from naturally occurring immune responses.

If you've been reading my newsletter for a while, you know that I've addressed all of these issues over the years and kept you updated as new research has come out. There's an enormous amount of information on my website, including a dedicated vaccine news and information page. Another valuable vaccine information resource is the National Vaccine Information Center.

Current Vaccine Policy Could Explain Our Higher Infant Mortality Rate
In a recent report on Adverse Effects of Vaccines: Evidence and Causality, an Institute of Medicine committee of medical experts acknowledged a casual link between adverse health effects and vaccination, while confirming that there are too few methodologically sound studies published in the medical literature to make definitive conclusions about many other serious health problems linked with vaccination. This report was published after a review of more than 1,000 vaccine studies by the Institute of Medicine.

Dr. Mercola Recommends...
Every "Like" Helps Support This CauseAccording to the most recent National Vital Statistics Report, more than 26,000 American babies born alive in 2009 died before their first birthday, which gives the U.S. a very high infant mortality rate of six infant deaths per 1,000 live births. In 1960, America ranked 12th in infant mortality among all nations of the world. In 2005, we had fallen to number 30. Today in America, there are more premature babies than ever before and more full term babies die before their first birthday than in most European countries.

The most recent study (2011) looking and infant mortality and vaccination is perhaps the most disturbing. It finds that developed nations with the poorest infant mortality rates, like the U.S., tend to give their infants more vaccine doses before age one. To put this into perspective, doctors give American babies 26 vaccine doses before age one, which is twice as many vaccinations as are given babies in Sweden and Japan. Is it really just a "coincidence" that the infant mortality rate is twice as high in America as it is in Sweden and Japan?

Natural Immunity is Superior to Vaccine-Induced Immunity
The more vaccines are studied, the more apparent it becomes that proper vaccine studies are lacking, as vaccine expert and pediatrician Larry Palevsky explains. There is a major difference between natural immunity and vaccine-induced immunity. Obtaining natural immunity has far greater benefits.

When children are born, they develop natural immunity to a large variety of microorganisms that they breathe, eat, and touch. The immune responses by cells lining their airways, skin and intestines, are very important in creating "memory" and protection against the organisms they naturally come into contact with. That primary line of defense is a very important step in the maturation of your child's immune system—and it's bypassed when he/she gets a vaccine.

With vaccination, you are merely creating an antibody.

Vaccines do NOT impart long-term immunity because they don't create the kind of memory that occurs when you go through the process of a natural immune response. And natural exposure does not necessarily lead to infection—it is possible to obtain natural immunity without actually getting sick, if your immune system is robust. In fact, vaccines do NOT strengthen the healthy functioning of the immune system, but actually may weaken it.

Bombardment by Multiple Vaccines Can Damage Your Child's Developing Brain
Dr. Russell Blaylock is a board-certified neurosurgeon and expert on vaccines and the nervous system. He may have discovered the central mechanism of how vaccines can contribute to the development of neurological diseases and has proposed a theory about the cause of autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Blaylock's theory can be summarized as follows:

1.Priming: Your child's immune system gets "primed" through exposure to an excitotoxin, such as a vaccine or an infectious agent, causing his/her microglia (special immune cells within the brain) to shift into "readiness mode."
2.Microglial Activation: Subsequent exposures to vaccines or other immune stresses over a relatively short period of time activate the microglia into full "battle mode," prepared to defend your child's body against what they perceive as an all-out invasion.
3.Bystander Damage: Excitotoxins and free radicals are generated, causing "bystander damage" in a runaway process that cannot be shut down. This leads to chronic inflammation and damage to brain tissues, including mitochondrial dysfunction, brain inflammation, seizures, and the other difficulties seen with autism.
Vaccines differ from natural infections in that vaccines can cause brain stimulation for very prolonged periods—the immune system in your child's brain is activated and re-activated by repeated exposure. Babies do not respond to vaccines in the same way as adults, even by one year of age. Immune over-activation can be especially damaging to a baby or young child's developing brain structures, such as the amygdala and limbic system.

This cycle is magnified by the administration of multiple vaccines at once. Many studies suggest this is very risky. Did you know that your 12 or 15 month old baby is allowed to get up to 13 vaccines at once under the CDC Immunization Schedule? How can this NOT be an assault to the immune system or developing brain? When was the last time YOU took 13 different prescription drugs at once without suffering side effects?

Certain children appear to have a higher risk for developing chronic brain and immune system dysfuntion including autism, than others, if their immune systems are more easily "primed." All it takes is the insult of ONE more vaccine, or ONE more infection, and the stage is set for regression into autism.or development of other kinds of neuroimmune disorders like ADD/ADHD and seizures. One of the factors that can increase vaccine risks is if your child is particularly susceptible to immune dysfunction because of an imbalance in their gut flora..

Gut Bacteria May Increase Vulnerability to Vaccine Damage
Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride found why some children are more vulnerable than others to developing autism. She discovered a close connection between abnormal gut flora and abnormal brain development—a condition she calls Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS).

Your child's immune system begins in his/her gut. Pathogenic microbes inside your child's digestive tract can damage their gut wall integrity, allowing all sorts of toxins and microbes to enter their bloodstream and then his/her brain. With GAPS, your child's digestive system becomes a source of toxicity, rather than a source of nourishment.

Homegrown handmade cutting board

After seeing a big, round hunk of wood used as a centerpiece at a friend’s wedding (see below, left), I wanted to give this project a try. Hank and I have scores and scores of downed trees around the farm, everything from pine and walnut to hackberry and Osage orange. I asked Hank to saw off some inch-thick pieces from an old walnut tree so I could sand them down and give them away as Christmas gifts.

After sorting through my cache of wood blocks, I got to work. I used a chisel to carefully peel away the bark around the edges of the wood round; I wanted to preserve the beautiful striations in the wood, rather than buffing them all out with a power sander. Then I got to work sanding. I used a belt sander first with 80-grit paper to remove all the chainsaw gashes. I learned that you really need to be careful with a belt sander, but at the same time, give it enough pressure to even out the surface. It doesn’t take long for things to go from bad to worse with this tool. I found that I would gash the wood if I tried to even out a mark here or there. Better to just grind down the sides of a gash with even pressure than to try and smooth it out head on. (If you’ve ever used a sander, you’ll know what I mean.) Hank was there to help me along the way and after a while, I became halfway proficient with it.

Next, I switched to a palm sander and used 100 grit, followed by 150 grit, and finally 400 to give it a nice smooth finish. I applied food-safe butcher block wax, sanding briefly with 400 between coats, until a nice glossy finish was achieved, without being sticky.

At top right you can see one really interestingly shaped piece I finished and used for a recipe shot for my “Heirloom Kitchen” column in Heirloom Gardener (www.rareseeds.com).
Next, I’m finishing some smaller rounds and turning them into coasters! Nature provides some of the best gifts, and with a little patience and effort, you can create something truly unique and beautiful for your friends and family. No mall (or Internet even) required!

Flower bookmarkers

For starters, choose a fabric and cut it into a rectangle. Cut it as long as you want your bookmark and twice as wide as you want it to end up being, plus a little extra to allow for the seam. Also, cut a piece of stiff fusible interfacing the size you want your bookmark.

Next, fold the fabric in half lengthwise, with right sides together. Sew along one short side and the open long side. Leave one short end open.

Step 3 is to flip the fabric right side out and insert that piece of interfacing inside. Tuck the raw edges of the open short end inside and sew that end closed. You can also top-stitch along all 4 sides for a more finished look.

Now, on to the fabric flower. Cut a long strip of fabric @1" wide. With a hot glue gun handy, roll and wrap your fabric so the printed side is always showing. Hot glue as you go to hold everything in place. Glue onto the top end of your bookmark.

I love the end result. See how that purty flower peeks out from the top of your book?

Button bookmarks

All it takes are a few simple steps:

1. Cut out a fabric circle approximately twice the diameter of the button cover.

2. Place the fabric printed side facing down in the button-cover mold.

3. Push the front half of the button rounded side down on top of the fabric.

4. Tuck the edges of the fabric into the center, and then press the button back into it until it is firmly encased.

5. Thread the paperclip through the shank of the button until the button rests at the top rounded edge.

6. Hot glue in place. I dabbed hot glue around the shank area and also where the edges of the button back rest on the paperclip.

Laundry Mousse

One of my very first posts as a blogger was a recipe for homemade laundry detergent. I still love it and recommend it, but I came across an intriguing recipe for homemade laundry mousse a couple of weeks ago that I wanted to try. Actually, I just used up the last of my liquid, so it was perfect timing for me to try making this kind. The ingredients are all the same, it’s just putting them together in a slightly different way.

The texture of this recipe is kind of creamy, almost like a paste. It actually reminds me of whipped butter in appearance and has a fresh smell that I love.

Intrigued as to how I made this? Here’s the recipe that I followed, taken from the Raising 4 Princesses blog:

6 cups water

2 bars Fels Naptha Soap

2 cups Borax

2 cups Arm & Hammer Washing Soda

I get all of my ingredients at an Amish Dry Goods store that is local, but you can probably find these at WalMart or your grocery store in the laundry aisle.Washing soda is slightly different than baking soda, so just be aware of that before you start. The first step is to take a large saucepan and heat up 6 cups of water in it. In the meantime, grate the 2 bars of Fels Naptha soap and pour them in the water. Heat to almost boiling until your soap flakes are dissolved. Add the Borax and washing soda and stir for about 3 minutes.

Remove from heat and pour into quart sized mason jars (wide mouth), leaving about 1 1/2″ at the top. Let this mixture sit for about 8 hours or more.

As you can see, the mixture does separate as it sits. After this, pour the contents of each jar (do one jar at a time) into a blender and whip it up. On a personal note, I found it easier to pour all of the liquid portion into the blender and then bits of the solid (top) part in gradually. I actually added just a bit of extra water too. Eventually you will get a nice creamy texture like I noted earlier. It almost looks good enough to eat–but please don’t, unless you need to wash your mouth out!! Pour everything back into jars or another kind of container with a lid. Use 2 TB a load.

source: http://quiverfullofblessings.com/category/craftdiy-ideas/

Edited to add: I made this and added about a cup of water while I was whipping it up. I think I needed to add about 2 more cups because its a little stiff. It also didnt dissolve in my wringer washer like I had hoped it would. I am not giving up on it yet though and maybe with a few alterations I can make it more creamy.
