Dr. George Tiller shot dead at church

Dr. George Tiller, Wichita, Ks. famed abortionist was shot to death today as he ushered in his church. Dr. Tiller ran an abortion clinic in Wichita for over 20 years. He was a supporter of former Governor Kathleen Sebilius.
While gunning someone down in church is atrocious, he is only one person and had himself killed hundreds or thousands of people by abortion. I don't know the details of who killed him but I feel sorry for them.
It must have been a very frightening day at that church today.

Hillbilly Housewife Fudge Brownies

Last night Joy and Mollie made these brownies for dessert. It makes a 9 X13 pan. There were no left overs. I have tried many, many recipes from the Hillbilly Housewife. Every one was very good and a keeper.
One recipe we use over and over is the Magic Milkshake recipe. Its like a frosty, but uses no ice cream.
If you need a recipe I suggest Hillbilly Housewife's site located on my side bar. Its great.

Fudge Brownies

1 cup melted margarine (2 sticks)
2 cups sugar
4 medium eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/4 cups flour
First off, don’t be tempted to put baking powder or baking soda into this recipe, thinking I have forgotten to list it above. This recipe does not call for any leavening other than the eggs. This is the secret that makes them chewy and fudgy. There is another recipe for Cake Brownies [1] which does call for baking powder, if that’s really what you want.

So, first melt your margarine (I do it in the microwave). Next get out a large bowl and combine the margarine and sugar with a spoon or whisk. Add all four eggs, and beat the mixture until it is sort of fluffy and emulsified. Add the salt, cocoa, and vanilla. Stir up really well. Add the flour. Stir again until the mixture is thick and chocolaty. Turn the batter into a well oiled 9 by 13-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cool before serving. Cut into 32 small squares.

NOTE: These are the richest brownies I have ever eaten. They do not need any frosting; actually, it would just be gilding the lily. They are pretty good with walnuts though. I add 3/4 cup of home cracked black walnuts in season, especially during the holidays. If you do crack black walnuts yourself, be sure to wear gloves while you do it, because they will stain your hands for weeks.

I love going to church

Today is the day that the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Potato Salad

This is my recipe for potato salad. It makes a lot so you can cut it down for your family. We have friends over a lot and we eat it every day until it is gone so this is why I make so much. Last time I made it we figured it made two meals with company and four or five meals of just our family of five.
10# potatoes (peeled, diced and boiled) (then drained)
1 dz. eggs (boiled, peeled and cooled) (then chopped)
3-4 c. mayo. I eyeball it
3/4 c. approx. mustard
salt
pepper
1-chopped onion
1 small jar sweet pickle relish
When the potatoes and eggs are done mix everything in a very large bowl, put the lid on and refrigerate until you need it. Some folks like it warm, others like it cold. I like it either way but maybe cold better.
Out of couiosity I am going to figure out how much this costs.
potatoes 2.99
1 dz eggs .94
4 c. mayo. 4.00 ( I buy the gallon jugs and then put it in quart size mason jars)(this is a guess)
3/4 c. mustard .75 (guess)
salt & pepper .10
onion .50
relish (free with coupon)
total 9.28 for 10# of potato salad. I bought some the other day at Walmart 3# for 4 something so this is definatly a better deal.

Saturday at home

This morning Jeff was suppose to meet with someone from Guymon about a job but it has been postponed for a week. That means he has to drive here for the third straight weekend in a row, bad news for him, good news for me. Next Sunday all three girls will be going to church camp. The older two as councilors and the younger one as a camper. So, when I take them to camp, I will just head on to Tulsa to spend the week with Jeff. That way neither one of us will be alone during the week.
We went to Liberal to meet Hannah's dad to pick her up. We had the oil changed on the truck and ate at Mc. Donalds. Then we went to Walmart, Walgreens, Ace Hardware, picked up 5 gallons of kerosene and filled the truck with fuel.
We then came home and the girls peeled 10 pounds of potatoes. We put a gallon of baked beans in the crock pot and Jeff got 4 racks of ribs ready and put in the oven. I also made tea and kool aid.
Then Joy labeled and wrapped soaps for me. Jeff, Mollie and I put sun blocker on the sun room windows. Its amazing how it drops the temperature so fast.
Later today we are having friends over to eat. We will be having the ribs, potato salad and baked beans. One thing nice about our friends is we can invite them over even if we are not having any thing fancy. Once a week or so ago we had them over and all we had was bacon wrapped tenderloin on the grill, cream cheese spread and crusty bread. Everyone likes to be together so what we do is irrelevant.
I was thinking today what a blessing Bill and Christina have been to us. We needed them and they needed us. We all like each other. The ages are quite varied but we couldn't have asked for better friends. We truly all love each other. Its like two families who have been made one. We are in the Lord but we are in our hearts as well.
We love you Bill and Christina, Courtney, Kaitlyn and Sammy.

Jeff is comming Yippie

Jeff is home again for the weekend. I am happy.

So far today

We have accomplished a lot today.
The girls have been painting on Kilz on the ceiling and the cabinets in the bathroom.
We hid all the stuff from the bathroom behind the couch in the school room.
We swept and mopped every room except the bathroom.
We made stone samples and corners.
The girls are cleaning up the utility room so they can start showers.
Jeff will be home soon.

I have supper prepped and ready to go. We are having pinto beans, carne asada burritos (the meat is marinating) and rice. The rice will cook in 20 min. in the rice cooker so I will start that later. I will add a can of fire roasted tomato chunks and chopped onion when I start the rice. When it gets closer to time to eat we will make the tortillas.

Bathroom progress

S0 far the girls have scraped the ceiling and are now sanding it. What a mess. That stuff is really messy. They are just about ready to paint Kilz on the ceiling. Then its scrub everything down so we can paint the ceiling and then the walls. They are doing a good job.

Results of the doctor for J' Tiah

The doctors at the crippled children's hospital found out why J'Tiah walks like she does. Her hips are both out of place. The ball is about an inch and a half above the socket. The socket has filled with fat and tissue. It will require at least two surgeries. Casts and braces for at least a year and a half. The socket normally forms around the ball and makes a C shape. Since the ball was not in the socket the shape is more flat and not C shaped to hold the ball in.
My niece asked repeatedly for the doctors to check her. She wasn't crawling right. She wasn't walking right, etc. They told her in St. Louis that if it had been caught earlier it would have been a matter of putting the ball back in the socket and keep doing that until it stayed. No surgeries and casts and braces.
While we are thankful she can be helped we are upset she has to go through this because the doctors wouldn't listen to my niece. It hurts to know J'Tiah will have to go through so much pain that could have been prevented. Please pray that two surgeries will do it and that J'Tiah's outgoing personality shines and blesses others as she goes through this ordeal.
May God bless J'Tiah, Ryan and Nicketta.

Off to the childrens hospital

My darling great niece J'Tiah is on her way to the Crippled children's hospital in St. Louis, Mo. today. She is 18 months. She throws her shoulders back and kicks her legs out to take a step. She says ouch sometimes when she moves. Any way they are going to have her checked out tomorrow. Please pray for their safety and for the doctors.

Painting the kitchen floor

When we moved here we removed much of the carpet. One place its not good for us to have carpet is in the kitchen. We tend to be messy. We cook a lot. Friends are over quite often. Kids running around. All these things make for messy floors. Our floor is wood, but it is a soft wood. That means we cant sand and varnish it. What to do? We painted the floor. It looks great. Only problem is it needs repainted every so often, maybe each year. The girls repainted today and it looks so fresh and clean. I love it. I almost hate to step on it.

Our next project is the main floor bathroom.

We are going to tear off the wall paper. Replace the shower head. Paint the walls a light gray. Tear out the carpet and paint the floors white. The woodwork is already white so we will give them a fresh new coat of white paint. I also bought new shower curtains and towels. It will be gray and white with light blue tile. The cabinets are brown so I think I will spruce them up and paint them white. We recently replaced the sink faucet. Also we are going to scrape the ceiling and repaint it white.
So: white floor and trim
gray walls
white cabinets
gray and white towels
white lace shower curtains

Jeff is home for the long weekend-yeah

Jeff came home Friday evening and is spending the weekend here. He will leave sometime Monday. Saturday we worked like crazy getting things done. He always has a honey do list. I wish it was otherwise but that's how it is. He doesn't come home but about once a month so things pile up. The girls and I do as much as we can.
Today is church and relaxing and fellowship. Last evening we had the preacher and family over for steaks. We had a simple dinner of bacon wrapped tenderloin with a pasta salad and pork and beans. We also had Foccicia bread with spread I found in the Kraft magazine this month.
Take 8 oz. cream cheese and place in a pie plate or other pan
spread pesto over the cream cheese
next add diced tomato
finally some grated cheese
Place the pan either on the grill or in the oven for 10-20 min until soft and melty. I don't keep track of time real well so that's about as close as I can tell you.
Spread this on the foccicia bread or toast some sliced baguette or french bread in the oven with olive oil and use that.

Todays juice

2#carrots
1/2 head cabbage
1 apple
2 stalks celery
big bunch spinach
2 T. flax seed
The juice is good but just a tad spicy. I don't know what would have made it spicy, maybe the cabbage or spinach? I look foreword to getting my juice every day
The vitamins are suppose to go right to the blood stream, unlike eating vegetables.

Todays juice

Wow I made some yummy juice today. I didn't follow a recipe, I just put things in I thought would be good.
2 # carrots
1 hand full spinach
1 apple
2 T. Flax seeds
2 stalks celery
1 beet (no tops)
This made a bit over 32 oz. It tastes really great.
If you notice I left out the ginger. Makes a nice change. I am down to 1# of carrots and no beets. I need to check the ads online and see if there are any sales in any direction I may be going.
Have a great day.

A Picture of Carol's graduation

My sister, Carol graduated from Fort Hays State University this month. Here is a picture of her with her diploma. I am so proud of her.

Home is where my husband is.

The girls wonder why I always want to go to Tulsa to be with Mr. Olson.
Where he is, is where my home is.
If he is here than I am at home. If he is in Tulsa, than that is where home is.
Pity the wife who must be in a fancy home, no matter where the husband is.
I am the wife who thinks a 5th wheel looks good if my husband is there.
A metal building looks good if that is where my good husband is.

Todays juice

Since I didn't like the beet greens yesterday I decided to make it different today. Today I used 2#carrots
1 apple
1 in. ginger root
1 beet (no greens)
Its really good. The carrots tame the beet down and the ginger gives it a tang.
This recipe made 32 oz. I drank some and put the rest in a stainless steel container I bought a Walgreens yesterday. Its suppose to keep things cold. Its in the refrigerator right now. We will see how this thing works.

Sabrina had a baby girl

My foster daughter (years ago) Sabrina was induced yesterday morning and she had a tiny baby girl. The baby is 2 lbs. 13 oz. She is 15 inches long. Please pray that she grows stronger each day. They decided to induce because Sabrina was so very sick with pre eclampsia. Sabrina will be in the hospital for a few more days and the baby will be there for a while.

Yummy juice

The weather is warming up around here and I tend to think lighter in food and drinks. I had Mollie get my juicer down from way high washed it off and began making juices.

I don't know why I ever put it away. Fresh juice is so good. My favorite is carrot.

Here is how I make it.

2# carrots

1 in. ginger

1 apple (I like Gala)

1 T. Flax seeds

Juice it all up and drink. I drink the whole thing right away.

Today I am going to try a new recipe.

1/2 head cabbage

1 beet with greens (Edited: I thought the greens made it bitter, so next time I won't use them)

2 large Kiwis

1 T. flax seeds

This one is suppose to be soothing to the tummy.

I bought a bunch of vegetables to make different combinations of juice to keep variety. The net says that if you always drink the same juice you can develop an allergy to it. So variety is best.

funny

A pastor concluded that his church was getting into very serious financial
>> troubles. While checking the church storeroom, he discovered several
> cartons of new bibles that had never been opened and distributed.
>>>> So at his Sunday sermon, he asked for three volunteers from the
>> congregation who would be willing to sell the bibles door-to-door for
>>>> $10 each to raise the desperately needed money for the church.
>>>> Jack, Paul and Louie all raised their hands to volunteer for the task.
>>>> The minister knew that Jack and Paul earned their living as salesmen and
>> were likely capable of selling some bibles.
>>>> But he had serious doubts about Louie who was a local farmer, who had

Poor Louis stuttered badly. But, NOT WANTING TO>> DISCOURAGE LOUIS, the minister decided to let him try anyway.>>>>
Louie just nodded. That's impossible!' both Jack and Paul said in >> unison..>>
'We are professional salesmen, yet You claim to have sold 10>> times as many bibles as we could.'>>>> 'Yes, this does seem unlikely,' the minister agreed. 'I think you'd >> better>> SHARE how you managed to accomplish this, Louie.

Hey everyone I'm back

In case you've missed me I am finally back in Hardesty. I ended up staying in Tulsa longer because after going to the doctor to get my blood pressure meds re-prescribed and they did a blood test, getting more tests and then seeing a specialist. I wont say right now what is up because I will be getting a cat scan and then maybe a biopsy and when I know what is up I will let y'all know.

It rained everyday for 21 days in Tulsa. It rained once in Hardesty. Go figure.

Tomorrow we are going to Dodge to my sister's college graduation reception. Congratulations Carol.

More later. Take care.
