African missionary update

BUSH BUNNY AND HER FRIENDS IN HOME STRETCH OF CORN RACE
Our team moved 163 TONS of corn into our 2 corn barns this week, averaging 30+ tons a day.
With our old record being 20 tons/day, I have to attribute this increase in speed to the hard work put in by our “speedy six” missionaries who made it happen. Never in the history of this mission have I had such great help. The girls have stuck with it, and have shown how tough they really are. It’s a dusty, dirty job and they all come home with a smile on their faces and covered in dirt. They know that this food is the life line for our 1,711 orphans, and they are making a difference in those lives by helping to secure the needed food for the next 12 months.
With only 700 bags (53 TONS) of corn left to bring in, our barns will be full by June 17th if all goes as planned this week.
All of us are ready to move on to other ministry projects and begin preparing for our first food distributions to remote villages.
Our 6 ton truck will stay very busy as, Manuel, my friend and only employee to be with me the whole 12 years in Moz., will begin hauling 40-50 tons of this corn to Meluco District, where we have 511 orphans (includes the 111 at the Elephant village).
Most of the corn planted in Meluco was destroyed by the strong African sun when short droughts destroyed 2 different plantings of corn in Dec. and January.
ELEPHANT VILLAGE CHILDREN ON THE MEND
I was pleasantly surprised when my office notified me of the many unexpected love gifts given at the end of May designated for the Elephant Village Orphans. Many THANKS to all of you who gave to provide the remaining blankets, grass mats, and beds for these children. All the children are showing improvement in energy and weight gain, as 27 of them were severely malnourished and 2 are physically unable to walk. I plan to visit these children in July and will keep you posted on their progress. It will take prayer, time, food, and lots of love. With Jesus ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE to those who believe.
In my 21 years of service in Moz., I’ve noticed that children are very resilient, no matter how badly they have been neglected, and respond rapidly to food and love. THANK YOU for making it possible for us to rescue and provide for these precious “Gems of Jesus”.
4 WATER WELLS TO BE DRILLED IN MELUCO COUNTY IN JULY
Our Meluco mission station and the Elephant Village will each receive a water well in early July, thanks to those who gave so generously into our water well project this year. Water is so precious near our Meluco mission station, that we employ a man to go to the ONLY local well (1 mile away) every morning at 2a.m. to pump water for our mission’s needs. That’s when the line is the shortest since the well is pumped 24 hours a day. This well serves over 5,000 people.
Eric tried last year to drill in this area, but was stopped by solid granite bedrock. The machine that will be drilling our Meluco wells proved last year that granite is no barrier when they successfully completed the Nsewe B village well. We were all amazed to watch it drill through 30 feet of solid bedrock in 90 minutes to get to beautiful water. That well has never gone dry and provides over 2,500 gallons of water/day to those villagers.
Two other villages in Meluco, also desperate for clean water, will receive the final 2 wells.

A Journey Called Life
A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.
"What food might this contain?", the mouse wondered.He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.
Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed this warning :
"There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.
" The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."
The mouse turned to the cow and said, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."
So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap . . . Alone. .. .
That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.
The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it. It was a venomous snake whose tail was caught in the trap. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital.
When she returned home she still had a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup. So the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient:
But his wife's sickness continued. Friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.
But, alas, the farmer's wife did not get well... She died. So many people came for her funeral that the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them for the funeral luncheon.
And the mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness. So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and you think it doesn't concern you, remember ---
When one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

I feel so special
I feel really special right now because a friend of mine wrote a paper about me and my simple life for her college financial class.
She said she's better get an A on it because she actually knows me and its not just research she did on someone somewhere that who knows if they really live like that.
I didn't tell her that we are actually trying to simplify our life even more and downsize even more than we already have. She would get a kick out of that I bet.
I told her I would like to read the paper she wrote. Hope she lets me.
We are realizing that Jeff may not be able to work forever, and in case he isn't able to we need to be able to live as simply and cheaply as we can. He has no plans to retire but life sometimes throws curve balls at you and you have to either duck or get hit in the face. We would like to duck if we can. We figure that by learning to live more simply now it wont be such a shock if and when the time comes that forces us to do so.
I am stocking up on non perishable things like toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrushes, beans, rice and the like when I can get them killer cheap so that I never have to buy these things at sale price let alone regular price with out a coupon.
I rarely buy things we don't regularly use except when its an item someone I know can use and I always use what I store and store what I use in all departments.
You would be surprised how much you can store in a 5th wheel. I am actually pretty good at organizing and finding space where most people don't see potential storage space. While its true that I cant store years worth of products or be like the Extreme Coupon people I can store enough to tide us through hard times. Which by the way seem to come more frequently these days. I am also able to buy cheap or free items I can then pass on to friends who have a need for them.
An example of creating more storage space: Lets say you have 4 box's of band aids. Those 4 boxes take up a fair amount of space, but if you dump the 4 box's contents into a zip lock bag you have much more space. You already know how to apply a band aid and I have never even looked to see if there are instructions on the box so obviously you don't need the box's. And get this, those 4 box's of band aids can actually fit in a snack size zip lock bag. Thus you have created much more storage space.
Look around your bathroom, utility closet, and kitchen to see if there are items there you can store in a different way.

Kill the old red rooster
We have company coming today. We are so excited that if we did have chickens we would kill the old red rooster when they come.
But we don't have chickens so instead I am making a big pot of Yolanda's baked beans with my twist on them.
We are excited because its the first time in a long time that we actually have a place for company to sleep. Before it was super crowded and absolutely no privacy, well almost none and they came to visit anyway so this time it will be nice to be able to give them a decent bed and some privacy.
The girls are moving back into their old room for the duration so our company gets their new digs.
As soon as we have the money and find a good deal on two used twin size mattresses we will have even more room for company. We already found and purchased a day/trundle bed to use as a spare bed/couch in the girls camper. When we get mattresses we will have that much more bed space.
Well I still have to finish up the beans and clean the bathroom so I better get busy.

Cheap hair gel
Did you know you can use aloe vera gel as a cheap and body friendly hair gel? My friend Dee Dee told me about this a few months ago and I have been using it ever since. You can pretty much use any aloe gel. Right now I am using Fruit of the Earth after sun gel in a pump bottle because we already had it.
If I had to replace my gel I think I would look for some at the Dollar Tree and try to find one with as few added ingredients as possible.

Savings at the stores
Last week I decided I needed to get back into shopping at Walgreens and learn some new stores since I now have more variety of stores to shop. I got some sunday papers and began searching the ads and putting together coupon match ups and reading blogs about coupon match ups.
I gathered all my coupons, circulars and such and headed to wags (Walgreens). This is the end result.
saved $205.47
spent $124.44
RR $113.00
So after RR my total spent was $11.44
Then I went to HEB and bought some groceries and got $78.00 worth of groceries for $29.00
As you can see I had lots of RR from wags. I have a few things I want to use them for next week but I also need some solar lights for a project I am doing. So I went to wags last evening because Jeff and Hannah needed to pick up their new glasses in that town and I bought 24 solar lights at $1.99 each a sympathy card for $1.99 and a set of wire strainers for the kitchen for $3.99. Total was $53.59 with tax and I used $52.99 RR and paid .60 cash oop.
I am not sure why but it said my tax was .05. They tax things very different here in Texas so I dont know what all was taxed or if it taxed my after RR total or what.
Jeff has to go back today after work so I am going to try my hand at a small transaction at CVS. That is one store I was never able to learn because there were none close to me before now.

Best ever taco meat
Today I decided to make taco's for supper. I had three large zucchini that had gotten away from me and gotten too big. I decided to use them in the taco meat. Wow. This is what I did.
3/4 lb. ground beef/deer mix
1/2 chopped onion
fry until done
add taco seasoning (I buy in bulk and never measure, it was maybe 1/4 c.)
While the meat was cooking I went out to the garden and cut some cilantro, came in washed it and grated one of the huge zucchini's into a bowl. When the meat was done I added the cilantro and zucchini along with about a cup of salsa. I cooked this for a bit and woowzer. I am totally amazed how good this is.
Even Hannah loved it.
Yeah, another way to use zucchini.

CDTHI FROM BUSH BUNNY’S TEAM OF AWESOME MISSIONARIES IN MOZAMBIQUE!
June 1st was a record setting day, as we received 60 TONS, that’s 132,000 pounds of corn in 7 HOURS!
Our team of 80 Mozambican men and 9 missionaries processed a RECORD 37 TONS on Thursday and 43 TONS, on Friday.
Never in the history of this mission did I think these numbers were possible!!!!(previous record was 25 tons/day.)
This team has really taken the load off my shoulders, and I am very thankful to the Lord for sending them our way.
Eric is driving our 6 ton truck, and Manuel, our Moz. tractor driver, is pulling a trailer that carries 6 tons/load.We have 2 “weighing teams” going from village to village to buy the corn. It’s then picked up by the truck or tractor and unloaded at one of our 3 barns.
Dave, Don and the 4 young women (Deb, Micki, Becca,and Steph), work the corn chutes where we spray the corn to kill the eggs of the “corn bug” that will soon hatch to eat the corn kernels. Without this process, the corn would be eaten by these bugs while in storage until only dust remains in the sack.
The 350+ tons we will purchase will feed our 1,711 orphans for one year.
Both last weekend and this weekend, our visiting missionaries will give Bible teaching dramas at 2 different bush churches in our area.
I am very proud of our 6 visiting missionaries who have risen to the task at hand.
June is the most stressful month we have each year, and the most physically challenging as we work from 5:30a.m. till the day’s work is done (sometimes getting in the last load at dark).
All of the team is really enjoying the challenge as they know they are saving lives by helping to store the food provided by YOU, God’s generous donors.
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU BEING PART OF THIS TEAM, OUR STAFF ARE ABLE TO CONTINUE GOD’S WORK TO RESCUE AND SAVE THE LOST!

Another young life snuffed out too early
My youngest daughter's 16 year old cousin was babysitting this past Saturday night. Apparently she drove to the job. The people she was babysitting for gave her booze. She hit a parked road grader on her way home. The young girl was there for at least three hours with two broken legs and numerous other injuries both internal and external before she was found.
She was taken to the hospital where she was in critical condition.
Yesterday, they placed her in a medically induced coma and she wasn't expected to live through the night. Sadly, she died at about2:30 am this morning.
I had not seen this young lady for many years so I know practically nothing about her except that she is the oldest child in that family.
I don't understand why grownups act so irresponsibly with kids. She may or may not have begged and pleaded for just one drink but that is no reason for a supposed adult to give a child mixed drinks. They said she was drunk so she must of had more than one drink, or maybe one drink is enough to get you drunk when you are 16. It doesn't matter either way. The child is dead and she was drunk when she left the job.
I bet there will be repercussions for the adult who gave her the mixed drinks (s).
Such a sad story. I pray my girls never are tempted to do this kind of thing.

Productive day
Over the Memorial Day weekend our family purchased an additional used RV. Its for the girls. They now have space and privacy and so do Jeff and I.
Today was very productive for both the girls and I. The girls worked on their new to them camper and I worked at rearranging shelves and making use of my newly available space.
I was joking to a friend the other day about how most people add on to their home by building on a room but we just buy another camper and rent another rv spot.
Jeff removed the shower base in the new to us camper and made sure there were no leaks underneath and that the only leak was in the actual faucet. There were no leaks underneath the shower. The past few days he has hooked up the sewer connection, the electricity and the plumbing. The new shower faucet is on order and he will replace the old one as soon is delivered. We also need to order a new lock and knob system for the girls camper so they can feel secure that no one else has a key to their place except mom and dad.
In our RV I rearranged the living room area and made it more cozy. I have made several configurations and changes to the living room area and kitchen. Who would have thought you can do so much rearranging in an RV?
Tomorrow the girls will scrub down their new bathroom and get the last of their clothes and stuff from their old room and scrub it down. I am using their shelves and drawers in their old room for storage. Whoo, hoo. Everyone loves more storage.
We bought the girls a day/trundle bed to use in the living area as a couch/spare bed but it didn't come with mattresses, so now we are in the market for new twin size mattresses. Hopefully they are not too expensive. We also told the girls they can have our TV as soon as we have the money and can find a new one we like and that will fit in the TV cutout area.
