Coyote

What an experience. When we arrived home from church yesterday, our dog Roper had a coyote cornered by our back door. What a shock. He was mangy and bloody from Roper tearing into him. I called Wesley from our church as I had seen him at the Pack a snack and knew he hadn't gone home yet. He drives right by our house on his way home.

He came and in turn called our neighbor Clinton who brought a shotgun. By this time Roper had let the coyote leave from the door and he ran to the front pasture by the highway.

Roper kept him pinned down there for a good 15 to 30 min. while Wesley and Clinton got there. When Clinton got ready to shoot, I called Roper and he moved away just enough for Clinton to get a good shot.

One blast and the coyote was dead and Roper took off, probably thinking he was next. Wesley then tied a wire to the mangy coyote and took him away for us. I am very thankful for that. The coyote's hind legs had no skin on them, Roper had torn it all off.

There was blood all over by the back door. Roper had blood all over him, and the coyote was dead. I worried that the coyote might have had rabies but it didn't appear to. Later I checked Roper over and he didn't even have one spot where the coyote got him. Roper never gave him the chance. Kirby, Roper won a reprieve for now. LOL
