The aggregate is on its way

One of the components we use in our stone is light weight aggregate. It is a lightweight inert material, such as foamed slag, vermiculite, clinker, and perlite, used in unreinforced concrete for making structures of low weight and high insulation.

It is not like regular aggregate in that is is very much lighter. Thus we are able to make manufactured stone that is just as strong as real stone but weighs 1/2 to 1/3 of what real stone weighs.

This light weight aggregate is not available everywhere like regular aggregate is. We get ours from a mine in New Mexico. The shipping on it is almost three times the cost of the aggregate itself.

The man who trucks our aggregate is a very nice fellow from New Mexico named Benny.
Benny called me yesterday to say that he would be on the road today after he got a tire fixed on the truck. He said he had had trouble getting up the mountain because of ice and snow but that he had the load and would be here today.

I realized that although the weather is nice here, I tend to forget that it is not the same everywhere.

I was glad he was able to get up the mountain and back safely. I know the first time he was here to deliver a few years ago, he was very careful. I appreciate that and I am sure his family does too.

Preach it brother

I wish others had such insight. Also I wish many had a willingness to preach it in their churches.

God's Word. Turn with me in your Bibles, if you will to the 47th

Chapter of Genesis, we'll begin our reading at verse 13, and go

Through verse 27.

Economic hard times fell upon Egypt , and the people turned to

The government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them. And Pharaoh

Nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses

That he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a

Great tax increase, and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And

This went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.

So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their

Livestock -their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey -

To barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through

The end of that year..

But the famine wasn't over, was it? So the next year, the people

Came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except

Their land and their own lives. "There is nothing left in the sight

Of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before

Your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food,

And we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh.." So they

Surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to

Pharaoh's government, and then sold themselves into slavery

To him, in return for grain. What can we learn from this, brothers

And sisters?

That turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider

In hard times only leads to slavery? Yes.. That the only reason

Government wants to be our provider is to also become our master?

Yes.

But look how that passage ends, brothers and sisters! Thus Israel

Settled in the land of Egypt , in the land of Goshen .. And they gained

Possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly." God

Provided for His people, just as He always has! They didn't end up

Giving all their possessions to government, no, it says they gained

Possessions! But I also tell you a great truth today, and an ominous

One. We see the same thing happening today - the government today

Wants to "share the wealth "once again, to take it from us and redistribute

It back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken

Control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government

Rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and

What kind. And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will

Wind up no differently than the people of Egypt did four thousand years

Ago - as slaves to the government, and as slaves to our leaders.

What Mr. Obama's government is doing now is no different from what

Pharaoh's government did then, and it will end the same. And a lot of

People like to call Mr.. Obama a "Messiah," don't they? Is he a Messiah?

A savior? Didn't the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh made them his slaves,

"You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh"?

Well, I tell you this -

I know the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of mine;

And Mr. Obama is no Messiah! No, brothers and sisters,

If Mr. Obama is a character from the Bible, then he is Pharaoh.

Bow with me in prayer, if you will.

Lord, You alone are worthy to be served, and we rely on You, and You alone.

We confess that the government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be.

We read in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, when Samuel warned the people

Of what a ruler would do, where it says "And in that day you will cry out

Because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but

The LORD will not answer you in that day." And Lord, we acknowledge

that day has come. We cry out to you because of the ruler that we have

chosen for ourselves as a nation. Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray

for revival, and we pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters.

Give us hearts to seek You and hands to serve You, and protect Your people

from the atrocities of Pharaoh's government.

Rain, sleet, snow, warm weather

Today has been a usual day for the panhandle. We have had rain, sleet, hail, snow and now its warm out. How crazy is that?

The girls and I ended up going to Guymon twice today, not too thrifty.

Wal Mart couldn't get the tire off the pick up to fix it, so we hurried home so Mollie could babysit like she does in the afternoon. The little boy ended up not coming today so we headed back to town to get the tire fixed at a real tire place. They couldn't get the tire off the van either, I don't know why we even mess with Wal Mart, they make me so mad.

Oh and the girl told the guy the wrong tire to begin with, didn't matter in the end, they couldn't get any of the tires off. The girl said guess you shouldn't live in the country. Oh ok, and food grows out of the Wal Mart produce section too.

What ever. Some times I wonder.

We didn't get to work today because it was raining and snowing and sleeting and we cant drive the forklift in that, not only does it not go, but we don't need any more ruts to bounce over.
If it does this tomorrow we will just have to do it the hard way staying in the garage all the time.

Mollie got her learners permit today. So of course now she will be driving all the time, she thinks. She probably will drive an awful lot, I would rather be a passenger anyway.

We bought three more cattle panels for my shelter idea. I need three more to make it the way I envision it.

Oh my

The cement arrived and we had the usual hard time unloading it. It makes me nervous driving the forklift in front of other people.

We got the three pallets unloaded and then we were putting them into the shed when one pallet that was stacked crooked broke the pallet and tumbled off. Now we have about 30 bags of cement to pick up off the ground. Each sack weighs 94 pounds. I am so discouraged. We picked up about half of them and I decided we needed to go in the house and regroup.

The young man who helps is coming after school today so maybe if we don't have them picked up by then he can help us.

I have to get stronger so I can continue this line of work or we are going to have to sell the business. Actually we have tried to sell and have not had any luck in this economy.

Its good money but hard work. We can make a days wage in about 2 hours of hard work. A person has to have stamina and a strong back to do this work.

I am just whining here so please forgive me. I am thankful we have this business. Thank you Lord and forgive me for whining.

I am glad we got our patchwork/redneck shed done because its raining and they are going to deliver 3 pallets of Portland cement tomorrow.

Today we need to set the baby chicks up in another shed and run electricity to it so they wont be in where we are making stone.

Tomorrow we will have to start making stone again. If we hit it hard we can get the first order done in three weeks.

I am going to build a redneck porch/ carport thing coming out from the garage to work under. It will keep the rain off and later when the sun is beating down on us while we work it will shade us. I have the design all worked out in my head and dimensions and such.

I wanted to get some of the thing I will need at Tractor Supply today when we went to town but most of the town didn't have electricity. The girls couldn't even have their dental appointment because of no electricity. Now we have to reschedule when they get the electricity back on a and their computer going.

I have a couple more ideas I want to think about building too. Jeff never knows what to think when I get ideas. But just last night he said he is enjoying all the latest projects. The raised beds, the chicks, etc. He even wants two raised beds in a certain area of the garden so he can raise his own veggies. Maybe he is going to experiment. I wonder if the girls would want a raised bed each in the garden to grow what ever they want? Do you girls?

I am happy to report the chicks are doing very well. I am so glad the neighbor got them for me yesterday instead of waiting until today because they ate over 1 cup of feed and drank a quart of water. They might not have been in as good of shape if they had to wait until today to be picked up.

There, now they aren't so crowded. Now I am going to have to find a place to put them while we make stone. The vibrator table is under that blue tarp.

I used a planter bottom for a feed dish.

All the chicks are Rhode Island Reds. The little black one is the free exotic one they send with your order. I have never had one of the exotic ones live. I hope this one does better.

Baby chicks are on their way

A fellow who lives a few miles from us just called and said he was at the Liberal post office picking up his chicks and he noticed that I have some there too. He said he would bring them to me.
He said this is their 3rd batch. I guess some have been dying. He didn't think mine would make it if they had to wait until tomorrow.

So we scurried around getting the water ready and feed set out and the heat lamp turned on.
I put 3 tablespoons of sugar in each quart of water. I will do this for the first 3 days. It helps give energy and relieve shipping stress.

As I take each chick out of the box, I will dip its beek into the water and then set it into the brooder. This helps the chicks know what water is. They have been living off their yolk since they hatched and have never had food or water yet.
The first few days are important in keeping the baby chicks alive and healthy.

I will take pictures of the chicks as I unpack them and put them in the brooder. If I get to go to church I will post the pictures after church. I should be at Sunday school now, but I am waiting on the chicks. The rest of the family went ahead and I will come as soon as I can.

Sounds like life to me.

My friend Kirby and his wife Kay were sitting with us at our Valentine dinner. We were all talking and having a good time. I think I said something about a hard life and Kirby said he had a friend who when he heard others complain and gripe about hard times in life would say, "Sounds like life to me." This struck me as so true.
Some people actually do have harder times than others. Some people are more blessed than others.
Some are rich and some are poor.
But it sounds like life to me.

I have always said Why not me? Others say why me? I figure its gotta be someone and I would rather it be me than a friend of mine or my kid, so why not me? I have no guarantees that life will be easy, and it hasn't been. Why should I get by scott free and no problems, and others have them?

I would not like to live free, easy and pain free if I had to watch all my friends going through life with all of life's cares.

God never promised a perfect life in him. He does promise to be there with us and to help us through it. I think life helps us to appreciate it when thing do actually turn out right or are good.

I think God wants us to depend on Him and ask for his help. Not that He makes us suffer so we will depend on Him, but that He lets us suffer so we turn to Him.

Yep, it sounds like life to me.

Saturday

Here are the four raised beds we put in the greenhouse. We need to make 3 more and then the greenhouse will be all raised beds.

The next thing we need to do is get the beds 1/2 filled with wood shavings that the tree company dumped for free out back. Then our friend Kirby will fill his trailer with manure and straw and we will top them off with that and then plant.

Mollie and I used several old tarps we found around the place. The one big one I thought I still had must of gotten thrown away last year. Jeff wants us to put a new one over the top of the one we put on the top.

Mollie works hard but she still finds time to text. She is a go getter gal.

This picture is suppose to show how we used wire to fasten the parts of the tarps that we couldn't fasten to the cattle panel.

I called this a patchwork shed but Mollie says its a redneck shed. It works what ever its called.

We worked hard for about 4 hours and got a bunch accomplished. Jeff and I went to Guymon and bought 3 batteries, two ladders, a 6 footer and an 8 footer. We also bought some 2x4's and two cattle panels.

When we got home Jeff installed a battery in the forklift and fixed the tire. He then installed a battery in the tractor and one in the van. He used the blower and blew out the garage after we got the molds out.

Mollie and I finished two raised beds and installed four raised beds in the greenhouse. We finished our redneck cement shed and moved the cement out of the other shed. We moved two sets of molds into the shed and put the cement into the garage.
