When did the government go from asking and encouraging Americans to help themselves to asking them to rely on the government? Was it after WWII? I am curious why we let the government convince us to be so dependent on them?
I read a quote that I cant shake. Any government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have.

That is a scary thought... Who ever said that knew what they were talking about. People in general are becoming more and more lazy and expecting a handout when they could be the ones taking care of themselves if they would just get up and do something about it.
