Today is a bittersweet day. Jeff and I have enjoyed being together for a week now. He leaves today after lunch. Tomorrow he will begin a educational journey. He will visit a plant in Cape Elizabeth South Africa. There is a 7 hour layover in London, it will be a good chance to look around and stretch his legs. He said it is winter in London and summer in south Africa. That makes it hard to pack. Luckily, he is a light packer.
Our family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Lots of laughter and eating. We have a loud family and it gets noisy when we gather. We had loads of fun together.
We hit Wal Mart for the black Friday sales. The girls ended up getting a Wii. They have been having a blast with it. Its their Christmas gift. I am pretty sure I have all my shopping done. We have a couple of gift exchanges and I think I have some really good gifts for that this year. You know you brought a good gift if they fight over it. We do the dirty Santa thing. Its only fun if people snatch other's gifts.

Freezer Stew
I am making freezer stew for supper.
I have been keeping a large ice cream bucket in the freezer. When we have a dab of this or a bit of that, we have been taking the bucket out and putting it in there. Today it was almost full so I cooked up some hamburger, carrots and potatoes and added the stew pot. It sure smells good.
It is a good way to use those left overs. I really didn't need to cook the hamburger, carrots and potatoes, but I remembered the bucket after I was already started.
I am making a batch of Tupperware bread to go with it.
Yummy

Thanksgiving
The First Thanksgiving ProclamationJune 20, 1676
On June 20, 1676, the governing council of Charlestown, Massachusetts, held a meeting to determine how best to express thanks for the good fortune that had seen their community securely established. By unamimous vote they instructed Edward Rawson, the clerk, to proclaim June 29 as a day of thanksgiving. That proclamation is reproduced here in the same language and spelling as the original. While the proclamation quoted on this page is the oldest extant thanksgiving proclamation, the thanksgiving being announced was by no means the first thanksgiving. The Plymouth Thanksgiving traditionally regarded as the first thanksgiving took place in 1621, the fall after the Mayflower pilgrims arrived. (Thanks to Jennie Stearns for this additional information)
"The Holy God having by a long and Continual Series of his Afflictive dispensations in and by the present Warr with the Heathen Natives of this land, written and brought to pass bitter things against his own Covenant people in this wilderness, yet so that we evidently discern that in the midst of his judgments he hath remembered mercy, having remembered his Footstool in the day of his sore displeasure against us for our sins, with many singular Intimations of his Fatherly Compassion, and regard; reserving many of our Towns from Desolation Threatened, and attempted by the Enemy, and giving us especially of late with many of our Confederates many signal Advantages against them, without such Disadvantage to ourselves as formerly we have been sensible of, if it be the Lord's mercy that we are not consumed, It certainly bespeaks our positive Thankfulness, when our Enemies are in any measure disappointed or destroyed; and fearing the Lord should take notice under so many Intimations of his returning mercy, we should be found an Insensible people, as not standing before Him with Thanksgiving, as well as lading him with our Complaints in the time of pressing Afflictions:
The Council has thought meet to appoint and set apart the 29th day of this instant June, as a day of Solemn Thanksgiving and praise to God for such his Goodness and Favor, many Particulars of which mercy might be Instanced, but we doubt not those who are sensible of God's Afflictions, have been as diligent to espy him returning to us; and that the Lord may behold us as a People offering Praise and thereby glorifying Him; the Council doth commend it to the Respective Ministers, Elders and people of this Jurisdiction; Solemnly and seriously to keep the same Beseeching that being persuaded by the mercies of God we may all, even this whole people offer up our bodies and souls as a living and acceptable Service unto God by Jesus Christ."

Yippie, Jeff is almost home
Jeff is about an hour from home. I am so excited. The girls and I cleaned the house spic and span this morning. I called him and asked him what he wanted for supper. He said chili, so that's what I am making. He hasn't had my home cooking for over two weeks. He is sure making good time, I hope he isn't speeding.
The girls asked me if I was going to make him work at home tomorrow. I laughed and said, of course. Silly girls.

Christmas play and costumes-family update
Its that time of year again. Time to really get the Christmas play going and the costumes made. Use what we have and make new. Hannah is Mary in the play this year. I am the narrator. I am also helping with the costumes. I love to sew. I don't like to cut things out. I will sew and sew if someone else cuts things out. Vicky doesn't use patterns so she is going to cut things out and I will gladly sew them for the play. I need to find material for Hannah's Mary costume.
In other news, Jeff is really planning to come home this weekend. He had planned to last weekend but the wheel bearing went out on the wheel and he didn't want to chance getting stranded. I thought that was wise. He gets a whole week off. Not bad for only being three weeks on the new job. I am ready to see him. He gets pretty lonely in that camper.
He will be going to London and south Africa at the end of this month. So that will help keep him from missing us. He will get to have quite an adventure. He even gets to go on a small safari in south Africa.
One of these days I may go with him, I do need to get my passport so I can.
That's whats going on around here.

Cleaning pans with burnt on food
If you or your kids burn food in a pan and you think its hopeless. Don't fret. Before you throw out the pan try this. Place a couple inches of water and a squirt of dish soap into the affected pan. Boil for a few minutes. Let stand. Scrape and see if it comes clean. I have used a pancake turner and scraped the bottom while the pan is boiling. You may have to do this a time or two but its certainly better than throwing out the pan. Note*this tip applies to regular pans, not non stick. I don't use them, so I don't know about them.

Coyote
What an experience. When we arrived home from church yesterday, our dog Roper had a coyote cornered by our back door. What a shock. He was mangy and bloody from Roper tearing into him. I called Wesley from our church as I had seen him at the Pack a snack and knew he hadn't gone home yet. He drives right by our house on his way home.
He came and in turn called our neighbor Clinton who brought a shotgun. By this time Roper had let the coyote leave from the door and he ran to the front pasture by the highway.
Roper kept him pinned down there for a good 15 to 30 min. while Wesley and Clinton got there. When Clinton got ready to shoot, I called Roper and he moved away just enough for Clinton to get a good shot.
One blast and the coyote was dead and Roper took off, probably thinking he was next. Wesley then tied a wire to the mangy coyote and took him away for us. I am very thankful for that. The coyote's hind legs had no skin on them, Roper had torn it all off.
There was blood all over by the back door. Roper had blood all over him, and the coyote was dead. I worried that the coyote might have had rabies but it didn't appear to. Later I checked Roper over and he didn't even have one spot where the coyote got him. Roper never gave him the chance. Kirby, Roper won a reprieve for now. LOL

MP-3 player
I bought a 1G. MP-3 player at Walgreen's a couple of days ago. I then went to Dollar Tree and bought a CD of the New Testament on CD. My pastor transferred the CD to my MP-3 player for me. I love it. Now when I go to sleep at night I can lie there and listen to the word.
The player was on sale for 19.99. I bought it on Saturday with a spend 20.00 save 5.00 coupon. I got the player and a Schick intuition razor for 18.-- The razor was on sale for 6.99 -3.00 with the easy saver book, and I had a 2.00 coupon so that made it 1.99, that made my sale over 20.00. Not too bad. Plus there is plenty of room on the mp3 player to put several praise songs. I have a few on there.
We sang a good song tonight at the community Thanksgiving service that I want on there. Its called Give me Jesus. I love it.

HolidaZe ExtravaganZa
The girls and I went to the county extension Holidaze extravaganza today. We love going to these as we always learn new things. This year we had a lesson on Old and New Christmas ornaments. The second lesson was on Paula Deen's Mexican Christmas. The extension home economist demonstrated several Mexican dishes which we were able to sample with our salad luncheon. After lunch the lesson was on tea bag folding. It was great and we are so excited to try this technique out. Its not at all what you think. The final lesson was on Sewn Holiday accessories. We really enjoyed the event. We always do.

Why I prefer the KJV to the NIV
Try Answering These From Your NIV
By Rex L. Cobb
INSTRUCTIONS:
Using the New International Version Bible, answer the following questions to this NIV quiz.
Do not rely on your memory. As the Bible is the final authority, you must take the answer from the Bible verse (not from footnotes but from the text).
Fill in the missing words in Matthew 5:44. "Love your enemies,__________ them that curse you, ______________ to them that hate you, and pray for them that __________ and persecute you."
According to Matthew 17:21, what two things are required to cast out this type of demon?
According to Matthew 18:11, why did Jesus come to earth?
According to Matthew 27:2, what was Pilate's first name?
In Matthew 27:35, when the wicked soldiers parted His garments, they were fulfilling the words of the prophet. Copy what the prophet said in Matthew 27:35 from the NIV.
In Mark 3:15, Jesus gave the apostles power to cast out demons and to: ____________
According to Mark 7:16, what does a man need to be able to hear?
According to Luke 7:28, what was John? (teacher, prophet, carpenter, etc.). What is his title or last name?
In Luke 9:55, what did the disciples not know?
In Luke 9:56, what did the Son of man not come to do? According to this verse, what did He come to do?
In Luke 22:14, how many apostles were with Jesus?
According to Luke 23:38, in what three languages was the superscription written?
In Luke 24:42, what did they give Jesus to eat with His fish?
John 3:13 is a very important verse, proving the deity of Christ. According to this verse (as Jesus spoke), where is the Son of man?
What happened each year as told in John 5:4?
In John 7:50, what time of day did Nicodemus come to Jesus?
In Acts 8:37, what is the one requirement for baptism?
What did Saul ask Jesus in Acts 9:6?
Write the name of the man mentioned in Acts 15:34.
Study Acts 24:6-8. What would the Jew have done with Paul? What was the chief captain's name? What did the chief captain command?
Copy Romans 16:24 word for word from the NIV.
First Timothy 3:16 is perhaps the greatest verse in the New Testament concerning the deity of Christ. In this verse, who was manifested in the flesh?
In the second part of First Peter 4:14, how do [they] speak of Christ? And, what do we Christians do?
Who are the three Persons of the Trinity in First John 5:7?
Revelation 1:11 is another very important verse that proves the deity of Christ. In the first part of this verse Jesus said, "I am the A______________ and O___________, the _________ and the _______:"
Conclusion: Little space is provided for your answers, but it's much more than needed. If you followed the instructions above, you not only failed the test, you receive a big goose egg.
(Ed. These are all missing in the NIV.) So now what do you think of your "accurate, easy to understand, up to date Bible"?
If you would like to improve your score, and in fact score 100%, you can take this test using the Authorized (King James) Bible.

Funeral Dinner
A man who attended our church in the past has died and his funeral is today.
I am cooking up a big pot of potatoes to make a 9X13 pan of potatoes. These always go over good at church dinners and funerals. Just boil a big pot of potatoes. When they are soft, mash them with milk and butter or chicken broth if you want a less fattening variety. Spread them into a 9X13 pan and top with grated cheese.
When there is a funeral in town all the churches bring food to the dinner. This being a small town, this practice eases the burden for each church and the ladies of that church.

Shoe box's for christmas
The shoe box's are due this Sunday.
I will be sending them come Monday.
I am so happy to help people we actually kinda know. I read these missionaries blog. The Lockwood's, in Mexico.
I got a great idea from voice of the martyrs. Next year I want to use backpacks instead of shoe box's. You can get so much more in them. One thing we wanted to send this year and there wasn't room was a fleece blanket. These can be purchased very reasonably through the year. Also, bigger balls can be put in them. Maybe even sweat shirts and pants. Towels. My mind is just humming with the possibilities.

Flag Rules
Displaying the Flag
1. When the flag is displayed over the middle of the street, it should be suspended vertically with the union to the north in an east and west street or to the east in a north and south street.
2. The flag of the United States of America, when it is displayed with another flag against a wall from crossed staffs, should be on the right, the flag's own right [that means the viewer's left --Webmaster], and its staff should be in front of the staff of the other flag.
3. The flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day. By "half-staff" is meant lowering the flag to one-half the distance between the top and bottom of the staff. Crepe streamers may be affixed to spear heads or flagstaffs in a parade only by order of the President of the United States.
4. When flags of States, cities, or localities, or pennants of societies are flown on the same halyard with the flag of the United States, the latter should always be at the peak. When the flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the flag of the United States should be hoisted first and lowered last. No such flag or pennant may be placed above the flag of the United States or to the right of the flag of the United States (the viewer's left). When the flag is half-masted, both flags are half-masted, with the US flag at the mid-point and the other flag below.
5. When the flag is suspended over a sidewalk from a rope extending from a house to a pole at the edge of the sidewalk, the flag should be hoisted out, union first, from the building.
6. When the flag of the United States is displayed from a staff projecting horizontally or at an angle from the window sill, balcony, or front of a building, the union of the flag should be placed at the peak of the staff unless the flag is at half-staff.
7. When the flag is used to cover a casket, it should be so placed that the union is at the head and over the left shoulder. The flag should not be lowered into the grave or allowed to touch the ground.
8. When the flag is displayed in a manner other than by being flown from a staff, it should be displayed flat, whether indoors or out. When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left. When displayed in a window it should be displayed in the same way, that is with the union or blue field to the left of the observer in the street. When festoons, rosettes or drapings are desired, bunting of blue, white and red should be used, but never the flag.
9. That the flag, when carried in a procession with another flag, or flags, should be either on the marching right; that is, the flag's own right, or, if there is a line of other flags, in front of the center of that line.
10. The flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group when a number of flags of States or localities or pennants of societies are grouped and displayed from staffs.
11. When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height. The flags should be of approximately equal size. International usage forbids the display of the flag of one nation above that of another nation in time of peace. The order of precedence for flags generally is National flags (US first, then others in alphabetical order in English), State (host state first, then others in the order of admission) and territories (Washington DC, Puerto Rico, etc.), Military (in order of establishment: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard), then other.
12. When displayed from a staff in a church or public auditorium on or off a podium, the flag of the United States of America should hold the position of superior prominence, in advance of the audience, and in the position of honor at the clergyman's or speaker's right as he faces the audience. Any other flag so displayed should be placed on the left of the clergyman or speaker (to the right of the audience). Please note that the old guidelines differed from this updated and simplified one.
13. When the flag is displayed on a car, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right fender.
14. When hung in a window, place the blue union in the upper left, as viewed from the street.

The persecuted church in Orissa India
Three More Christians Killed in Orissa; Opposition Reported in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar
Thousands of Christians, like this woman, were made homeless by attacks led by Hindu extremists in Orissa, India.
Thousands of Christians, like this woman, were made homeless by attacks led by Hindu extremists in Orissa, India.
Three more believers were martyred and twelve others were severely wounded in a fresh wave of violence in Orissa, India, on September 30. The latest attacks occurred in villages near Kandhamal, which has been the epicenter of violence against Christians since August 22.
The violence in Orissa came as attacks in two other Indian states targeted a Christian pastor and a Bridge of Hope center.
An estimated 30 Christians have been killed and thousands of others have lost their homes since Hindu extremists went on a rampage after their leader, Swami Laxmananda Saraswati was murdered. His followers are seeking revenge for his death, for which Christians have been blamed. However, Maoists have claimed responsibility for the murder.
A Gospel for Asia correspondent in Orissa said Tuesday's attacks came at 4:30 a.m. when mobs of as many as 5,000 Hindu extremists attacked three separate villages. The extremists burned down about 150 homes and three churches. The Indian media reports that police opened fire in an attempt to disperse the violent forces.
The mob also reportedly attacked the local police station, demanding that two people arrested in connection with the ongoing riots be released. Media reports from within the country also indicate that the extremists have blocked all roads in and out of the area of the attack with rocks and boulders to prevent police from bringing in additional forces.
Since the violence began August 22, six people who attended GFA-related churches in Orissa have been killed by the Hindu extremists, who have personally attacked more than 2,000 believers from these churches. The extremists have also burned down 630 homes belonging to believers who attend GFA-related churches and destroyed 22 churches where GFA missionaries serve as pastors.
Many Christians are still hiding out in the dense jungles surrounding their villages. They are suffering from the effects of starvation, disease and monsoon flooding that wrecked the state in September.
With the continued violence and the roads blocked, it is impossible for GFA Compassion Services teams to get into Orissa to distribute aid.
Missionary Beaten in Uttar Pradesh
Gospel for Asia missionaries are also dealing with persecution in Uttar Pradesh, where Hindu extremists have attacked a pastor and have set their sights on a Bridge of Hope center.
On October 1, the extremists attacked a Bridge of Hope center and a church in Magapatti, Uttar Pradesh. The pastor of the church, who is a GFA missionary, was badly beaten in the attacks.
Hindu extremists continue their campaign to obliterate Christians in Orissa, India. On Tuesday, they destroyed another 150 homes like this one, along with three churches.
The extremists have been systematically threatening the parents of the children in the Bridge of Hope center for the past few weeks. The center was closed as a precaution and no children were on site when the extremists attacked the missionary.
Christian Aid Workers Forced Out of Bihar
Another gang of anti-Christian extremists forced out Christian aid workers attempting to help survivors of flooding in Bihar. The incident occurred on September 25 in the state's Purnia district where aid workers were assessing needs and handing out cards for people to exchange for supplies. The group was planning to help at least 2,500 families.
The extremists accused the group of taking advantage of the situation to lure the people into Christianity by offering relief materials.
The aid workers, who have been in Bihar since September 1, were able to move their base to another area and continue operations.
GFA missionaries in the affected areas sh
ared the following prayer requests:
Please pray for the families of those killed in Orissa, that they would be comforted by the Word of God and that they would remain strong in the midst of intense persecution.
Please pray for the families of those killed in Orissa, that they would be comforted by the Word of God and that they would remain strong in the midst of intense persecution.
Pray for those wounded in Tuesday's attacks. Several of them have life-threatening injuries and are not expected to live. Pray for their healing and that it would be a testimony of God's glory.
Pray for the people hiding in the jungles and those living in relief camps. Pray especially that God would provide a way for Compassion Services teams to reach them.
Pray for healing for the missionary in Uttar Pradesh.
Pray that the Bridge of Hope center in that community would be able to reopen and that the children could go to school without fear.
Pray for the many Christian organizations attempting to distribute relief supplies in Bihar.
Pray for the extremist and militant groups who are opposing the Gospel to come to know Jesus as their Savior.
National Day of prayer for the persecuted church
Today is national day of prayer for the persecuted church. Many of our christian brothers and sisters are being persecuted for their christian beliefs. Pray for them. Pray for the saints who are being killed, tortured, in-prisoned and beaten in His name. Stand strong church.
God is so good
God is still God. The Bible is still true and the Holy Spirit still works. Praise God. Pray for our country, our world, our churches.
Autumn
Autumn is such a beautiful time of year. I love the colors. At the lake where Jeff is the fall colors are beautiful. The leaves are ankle deep. They rustle as you walk. When you raise your gaze to the sky, you at first think the sky is full of birds soaring straight above you, then you realize its the leaves twirling and swirling and sailing like birds. Its a beautiful site.
