My second daughter and family

This is my second oldest daughter Kaleena and her family at honor America day.
Aren't my grandkids adorable?

Daily bible reading

My grandson Sammy has been here for almost three weeks.  He goes home tomorrow.  :-(  I will sure miss him.

While he was here he has been reading a chapter a day of the bible.  He is reading the book of John.  In just this short time his reading has improved so very much.  We are going to continue our daily reading together via Skype.

He reads out loud to me and I just help him with words he cant get.

Pennies in the pond

A friend gave us some water hyacinths for our pond.  Sammy plucked them for us and I put them in our pond.
Then another friend said to put copper or copper pennies in the pond to help control the algae so Sammy sorted through some old pennies for pre 1980 pennies and then he put them in the pond.
Also the pump went out today so we have a new one on order.
Sammy found a tadpole.  Actually there are tons of them in the pond.

SOZINHO OUT OF HOSPITAL, NOW LIVING WITH US

His mother was at the hospital when we picked him up Tuesday morning, June 23rd, but only stayed long enough to see what house he would live in.

Most 16 year olds in Mozambique are very mature and nurturing towards infants (at least our girls are), so this teen is the exception.

He is gaining weight and looking healthier, as you can see from his photo.  When he first came, every bone in his body showed horribly and his legs and arms were just toothpicks.  AMAZING every 3 hourly feedings can do over a 2 week period.
We PTL that he survived his horrible ordeal and is now part of our family.

CORN AT MELUCO
The 36 tons needed to feed the 515 orphans in Meluco is now properly sacked, stacked, and in the barn.  The neighborhood water well that serves over 500 families received a complete overhaul, thanks to Manuel and his team of experts.  He said it looked like someone had tried to fix it, but did it wrong, and thus the WHOLE “innards” of the well had to be pulled and replaced.  A 3 day job since they had to pull out, cut, reconnected the pipes with pipe unions, and then let it set for 2 days to dry.  It’s a major job, but since the corn processing takes 2 days, the team was able to finish the job before they left on Thursday morning.

BABY DANIEL RECOVERING FROM MUMPS TOGETHER WITH THROAT/EAR INFECTION

But thanks to much prayer and our great relationship with the Balama Dr. and hospital, we were able to get a prescription by phone, which could be filled in the next town (Montepuez, 30 miles/60km away).

The Balama hospital was out of the much needed liquid antibiotic for his throat infection, but thanks to my “stash of baby meds”, and Capena’s “connections” at the Montepuez hospital, Daniel received all 3 medications he needed and is on the mend.

DAWN’S SITUATION

DAWN’S LAB WORK revealed a very weak immune system.  We consulted with 2 doctors and the head of a private clinic in Pemba, but all three were in agreement that she should NOT live in a malaria area, and recommended she depart as soon as possible to prevent further illness.
Since her arrival on April 8, Dawn has been a real “trooper”, but suffered through malaria, a respiratory infection, and the ever so deadly Dengue Fever (just last week).  (Both malaria and Dengue are mosquito transmitted diseases that easily kill those with little resistance.)

All 3 sicknesses occurred during an EIGHT WEEK period, revealing to all of us that something was not right, and thus the lab examination at the Provincial Hospital in Pemba.  For her own safety, she will depart TOMORROW, July 29th.
DAWN has been a GREAT HELP to me with her many management and organizational skills, and her departing is leaving a BIG HOLE in our staff.

The children dearly love her as 6 days a week she spent her afternoons with them, teaching them English and many new games.
She will be greatly missed by all of us and we know that if she decides to continue in missions, that God will guide her to a malaria free place where she can serve Him well.

ABBIE WHEELER DEPARTS ON JULY 1ST

School time soon approaches for Abbie, and she departs from here as scheduled.  (We tried to get Dawn and Abbie on the same plane out of Pemba, but there were no seats.)
Abbie filled in where ever needed, and received many hours of tropical medicine experience, (and long sleepless nights) by caring for both Caitlyn and Dawn during their sicknesses.
She also worked daily with the children and helped our teenage boys improve their basketball skills.

WE SINCERELY THANK BOTH THESE YOUNG LADIES FOR ALL THEY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO OUR PROGRAM.

SEARCH IS ON FOR NEW HELPERS, AS BUSH BUNNY IS ONCE AGAIN THE ONLY MISSIONARY AT THE BALAMA SITE
.
If you know of someone who will give a year, then have them contact us.
Much thanks!

Blessings,

Gay Marriage

The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled today that same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 states. With all due respect to the court, it did not define marriage, and therefore is not entitled to re-define it.
Long before our government came into existence, marriage was created by the One who created man and woman—Almighty God—and His decisions are not subject to review or revision by any manmade court. God is clear about the definition of marriage in His Holy Word: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24).
I pray God will spare America from His judgment, though, by our actions as a nation, we give Him less and less reason to do so.

****To this I say, AMEN******

Sleekez

We purchased this product to groom our two dogs.  It works very well.

I love old pictures

This picture is obviously of a poor family.  What strikes me is that they are eating together at the table which is not very common now a days.  My family still eats almost every meal together at the table as a family.  The other thing that strikes me is the while obviously poor, this family is eating wholesome food.  What are your observations when you look at this picture?

OUR EYE OPENING EXPERIENCE

OUR EYE OPENING EXPERIENCE

Our grandson who is eight is here for a few days this summer.  Today he went out the front door to play outside.  He played a bit then decided to go to the back yard.  After he was done playing he came to the back door which was locked.  We keep our doors locked unless we are going in and out.  Anyway I could hear him at the back door jiggling on the door knob.  The next thing I know the door is opening.  He came over to me and asked if I knew how he got in.  I said no.  He held up a piece of plastic that goes on the bottom of the rain gauge that we have not yet installed and said, “You left the key out there”.  Of course papa and I right away had him show us how he unlocked the door.  Come to find out our back door knob is a bathroom or bedroom door knob.  We always just lock it from the inside and knew we didn’t have a key and never even looked at the knob itself.  It was just one of those that you can probably even use your thumb nail to open.  We have lived here 2 ½ years and never checked that.  Needless to say we hopped into the car and went to home depot and papa is installing a knob with a key.  I texted my grandsons parents and told them that he possibly saved us from a break in or maybe even our lives.  Now I wonder what other security measures we have overlooked.  I thank God for watching over us these past 2 ½ years.  Keeping our home safe while we went on vacation and who knows what else.  Please check your locks on entry doors even if you don’t have keys.  Make sure they are actual entry way locks.  I don’t know who in their right mind would put that type of knob  on an entry way door.  But it’s obvious that we never checked it.

Then to top it off.  On the way to home depot our grandson found two hidden compartments in our car that we had never known about.

I’m wondering what is next?

The good old days

Year was 1955, ONLY 60 YEARS AGO!

Did you hear the post office is
thinking about charging 7 cents just to mail a letter?

If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00,
nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.

When I first started driving, who would have thought
gas would someday cost 25 cents a gallon?
Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage.

Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $50,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President.

I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would
be electric. They're even making electric typewriters now.

It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few
married women are having to work to make ends meet.

It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work.

I'm afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the door
to a whole lot of foreign business.

Thank goodness I won't live to see the day when the Government  takes half our income in taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are
electing the best people to government.

The fast food restaurant is convenient for a quick meal,
but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.

There is no sense going on short trips any more for a weekend. It costs nearly $2.00 a night to stay in a hotel.

No one can afford to be sick anymore.
At $15.00 a day in the hospital, it's too rich for my blood.

If they think I'll pay 30 cents  for a haircut, forget it.

Know any friends who would get a kick out of these, pass this on! Be sure and send it to your kids and grandkids, too!

Tumeric Paste

HOW TO MAKE TURMERIC 2000% STRONGER WITH A HOMEMADE PASTE TO HELP SMASH CANCER & ARTHRITIS!

It is estimated that 5% of cancer is genetic and 95% is a result of lifestyle and environmental factors. Over 6 million (and growing) dogs die from cancer each year! More than 1 in 2 dogs and 1 in 3 cats are diagnosed with cancer.

A new turmeric study reveals that one of the world's most extensively researched  herbs has the ability to selectively target and destroy cancer stem cells, while having little to no toxicity on normal stem cells.

This means that, unlike chemotherapy which will destroy regular healthy cells, turmeric will only go after cancer cells in you and your pets!

The only problem is with using turmeric to smash cancer or to heal inflammation like arthritis is its low bioavailability when eaten on its own.

You see, approximately 5% of the spice turmeric is composed of the active compound curcumin and this is the stuff that gives turmeric its power. Then, to top it all off, turmeric root is poorly absorbed across the G.I. tract and is rapidly cleared from the blood.

If pets or people are given turmeric root, within an hour, there’s a little tiny bit that actually makes its way into their blood stream. The reason for this is because the liver is actively trying to get rid of it! So, while a ton of pet owners may be giving their pets turmeric, most are seeing little to no results.

FEAR NOT! THERE IS A SOLUTION!

There’s an easy-to-make recipe that will actually make turmeric root powder, and its power-punching curcumin, over 2000% more readily available to your pet’s body!

The solution? An old Ayurvedic recipe called Turmeric Paste (aka Golden Paste) that has been prepared in India for thousands of years!

“How is it prepared in India? With fat and black pepper. Amazing how they could figure that out without double blind trials. (Though maybe it just tastes good, and it’s merely coincidence?)” -Michael Greger, M.D

A source of fresh ground black pepper and a healthy fat can turn this solo herb, turmeric, into a super powerful rock band!

According to research, about 5% of black pepper by weight is comprised of a compound called piperine, which enhances the bioavailability of Turmeric.

Australian Vet, Dr. Doug English, advises to add freshly ground peppercorns (piperine) to your mixture of turmeric root, piperine will increase intestinal absorption allowing time for the curcumin to be taken up into the blood stream.

“By taking just a quarter teaspoon’s worth of black pepper, you see curcumin (turmeric root) levels skyrocket. The same amount of curcumin consumed, but the bioavailability shoots up 2000%. Even just a little pinch of pepper—1/20th of a teaspoon—can significantly boost levels.” -Michael Greger, M.D

Not only can adding fresh ground pepper make turmeric more bioavailable but piperine in black pepper can trigger TRPV1 (transient receptor potential vanilloid type-1) in the body. This triggering can reduce pain!

Ok, so why the coconut oil?

According to research: “Another way to boost the absorption of curcumin is to consume it in the whole food, turmeric root (fresh or dried as a powder) because natural oils found in turmeric root and turmeric powder can enhance the bioavailability of curcumin seven to eight fold. When eaten with fat, curcumin can be directly absorbed into the bloodstream through the lymphatic system thereby in part bypassing the liver.”

You can use good clean organic fats like olive oil, fish oil or, my favorite, coconut oil!

For more on coconut oil - http://ow.ly/Js0LX

THE RECIPE

First source the following ingredients-

- ½ cup of organic turmeric root powder
- 1 cup of clean spring or filtered water (may need more)
- 1 ½ teaspoons freshly ground black pepper (fresh is always best because of the piperine levels)
- ¼ cup organic cold pressed virgin coconut oil (you can also use olive oil)

Here’s how easy it is: just mix the turmeric root powder with the 1 cup of water in a pan or pot, you may need to add more water if needed. Stir the mixture on medium/low heat and in about 7 to 10 minutes, it should form a thick paste. (If your paste looks runny, just add a bit more turmeric and heat it for another couple of minutes.)

Once turned into a paste, add the fresh cracked pepper and coconut oil, and then stir it up!

Once cool, place the paste in a mason jar and store it in your fridge. The paste should last for about 2 weeks.

Add ¼ tsp of paste per 10 lbs of body weight to your pet's diet.

If there was ever a time to start a preventative plan, like adding turmeric root to your pet’s diet, the time is now!

This guy is huge

This monster was on the hi-way the next town over.  Yikes.  I think all the rain has let these alligators come inland more.  I know it depends on the waterway.  The lake we live by has never had alligators but choke canyon north of us has loads of them.  I sure hope they don't start invading Corpus Christi Lake.

This makes me so sad.

What Im cooking today

Lentil ~ Ground Beef Meatloaf

Cook 2 c. lentils in 5 cups water (I used my rice cooker)

When the lentils are done get a big bowl and put 4 or 5 eggs in it.  Add a chopped onion and about ¾  to 1 cup oatmeal.  Add in three to four pounds of ground beef and the cooked lentils.  Mix thoroughly and place into a 9X13 pan.  Bake at 350 degrees until done.  About 30-40 minutes before the meat loaf is done mix up a cup of brown sugar with a can of tomato sauce or ketchup and smear over the top of the meat loaf.  Continue to cook until done.

Cheesy mashed potatoes using instant potatoes

Make up as much instant potatoes as you need for your meal plus any leftovers you want to have.  Add some sour cream to the water once its hot and before you add your instant potatoes.  Once the potatoes are mixed in pour them into an oven safe casserole dish and top with cheese.  Bake this about 30 minutes along with the meatloaf.  Then when they are both ready you just heat up a can or two of peas or green beans and you have an easy meal.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`````
When I am cooking I try to make extra and after the meal is over I make up single serving freezer meals for my husband and daughter to take to work.  This is one of their favorite meals to have on hand.  I used to just put the left overs into the refrigerator and sometimes we ate them and sometimes we didn’t.  One day the idea came to me to make up meals and put them in the freezer and it was a hit.  I use square containers that I bought several of.    I also make up freezer meals like this when I go visit my mom.  That way she can eat a good healthy homemade meal without the fuss of cooking for one.
RESCUEING BABY SOZINHO
Baby Sozinho, weighs only 7 lbs (3.2 kg) at his SIX MONTH mark this week!
His young teenage mother developed mastitis 4 months ago, and Social Services sent them to receive life-saving  baby formula from us.
Sozinho weighed only 3kg (6.6 lbs) at 2 months, but with his mother’s lack of breast milk, poor infant growth is typical.
I noticed 3 weeks ago that he was very slow to gain weight on our 21% protein HYPO CEREAL, especially formulated for malnourished babies.
Since he showed a good weight gain his first month, I immediately suspected the mother wasn’t feeding him, so she was counciled.
He presented 2 weeks ago IN SERIOUS CONDITION with a respiratory infection, had lost 0.5 POUNDS (250 gms) weight, and needed immediate medical attention.   I immediately took mother and baby to the hospital.
The Emergency Room staff gave him immediate treatment and would admit him to Pediatrics.
But after I left,  Sozinho’s mother ran away with the him, refusing treatment.
Not knowing where she lived, we had little hope of finding her.  I prayed for that little one, for only Jesus could save him now.
PTL for Jesus heard our plea!
Sozinho survived the last 7 days despite poor feeding and a respiratory infection!
This very young mother was obviously unconcerned for Baby Sozinho’s health, so when she walked in on June 11th,  Capena and I took her immediately to meet with Social Services at the hospital.  Social Services had to force her to give up Sozinho, who was immediately started on life saving antibiotics in the Emergency Room, and then Admitted under the care of 2 of our best foster mothers.
The Social Services Director and Capena then escorted the mother to her village to meet with her family and request custody of the baby for up to a year.
The family was VERY EAGER to comply, as they agreed this young 15 year old was not taking proper care of the infant.
Documents will be written up this week so that Sozinho remains in our care until he is a strong toddler.
The hospital doesn’t allow photos, but I will show you his CUTE LITTLE FACE with those BIG BLACK EYES as soon as he is released this coming week.
When I visited him this morning, all I could see were those 2 BIG BLACK EYES staring out from his hooded jersey.
WE ARE IN WINTER with 55 degrees our normal sunrise temperature INSIDE OUR HOUSES!
No heat exists in our homes or in the hospital, so everyone has to dress warm.
Baby Sozinho’s body may be emaciated, but his mind is sharp, for he misses nothing going on around him.
Our 2 foster mothers say he is an easy keeper as long as he is fed when he asks.
Babies who have been starved eat small amounts (less than 2 ounces/60ml) very frequently, and PANIC if not fed quickly.
CRYING uses up calories at a fast rate, so our mothers are under orders to NOT let him cry.  Feed him without delay.
26 BABIES ARE IN OUR FORMULA PROGRAM AT PRESENT, and it looks like Sozinho will be our 3rd resident baby this year.
 BABY EDNA, OUR YOUNGEST AT 7 MONTHS, ENJOYING HER FIRST FEAST
MONICA, BORN WITH A HEART DEFECT AND POOR SURVIVAL OUTLOOK , IS NOW IN PRE-SCHOOL!
DANIEL, 11 MONTHS, WITH A FACE THAT SAYS “I ATE MY LUNCH, SO WHERE ARE THE COOKIES YOU PROMISED!”
OUR FAMILY IS GROWING, and our older orphan girls DEARLY LOVE having new babies join us!
 CHILDREN’S DAY, JUNE 1ST,  CHILDREN BEING SERVED A RICE AND  GOAT FEAST BY FOSTER MOTHERS
The babies who live with us provide our older orphan girls a great learning opportunity in baby care (besides being fun to cuddle).
For in this country, girls without mothers to train them in good baby care have little opportunity to learn the proper skills.
TWO NEW AWANA PROGRAMS OPEN IN REMOTE VILLAGES
Saturday our  AWANA team consisting of Carlitos Jorge, Nelson, and new assistant leader, Rufino, traveled to NTETE Village to meet with the children from the Assembly of God church.   FIFTY THREE school age children dearly loved playing the games and hearing the story of creation.  Next week, we expect a huge crowd, as these 53 little “advertisers” were told to invite all their friends.  Ntete has over 2,500 children, so we plan to start programs in several areas of the village in order to keep the groups in manageable numbers.
SUNDAY, Carlitos Jorge met with village leaders and the children of NQUIDE Village (about 5km or 2.5 miles) down the road from Ntete.  We plan to kick off that program next Saturday.
GOD’S WORD IS GOING FORTH!
FOR THE CHILDREN SHALL LEAD THE WAY IN THESE END TIME DAYS.
Natural tooth powder
I started using a natural tooth powder made by a Facebook friend. Here is my review.
  The hygienist said I had absolutely no stains and very little tartar and plaque. I am so happy with this tooth powder. I like that fact that the taste is quite mild.
 Plus it is a small business and I love supporting small businesses. She has many other products. Here is her link. http://www.facebook.com/l.php…
Vanilla Bean Pudding
Vanilla Bean Pudding
1/4 vanilla bean*
2 1/2 cups milk (pref. whole milk), divided
1/2 cup sugar
2 large egg yolks
2 tbsp cornstarch
1/8 tsp salt
Split vanilla bean in half lengthwise with a sharp knife.
In a medium saucepan, combine vanilla bean, 2 cups of milk and 1/2 cup sugar. Bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar. Remove the vanilla bean and scrap out the seeds using a small knife. Put seeds back into the milk mixture.
In a medium bowl, whisk together egg yolks, cornstarch, remaining 1/2 cup milk and salt until smooth. Whisking constantly, gradually stream in the hot milk mixture until all of it has been incorporated.
Pour mixture back into the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring with a spatula, until the pudding just comes to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes until pudding thickens.
Remove from heat and divide evenly into four dessert cups or ramekins.
Pudding will continue to thicken as it cools.
Serve slightly warm or chilled.
Serves 4.
