Bad weather car tote

I am working on a tote to put in the vehicle when we drive somewhere and the weather is bad. Some things I think I will put in it are as follows. If you have suggestions please leave a comment.
1. 2 blankets
2. tin can alcohol stove (metal coffee can, a bottle rubbing alcohol, a roll of toilet tissue and a book of matches)
3. a hat for each family member
4. a pair of gloves for each family member
5. non perishable snacks
6. small shovel
7. jumper cables (if not already in vehicle)
8. triangle warning signs (collapsible)
9. tow rope
10. small first aid kit
11. water
12. rags
13. ice scraper
14.
I will update this post as suggestions are mentioned.

What is kefir?

A friend asked me what kefir is. The best way to learn about it is to search around on the internet. My explination is that it is a cultured milk product that is good for your gut. Some folks like the taste, I do not, so I use mine in other ways. I use mine anywhere I would use buttermilk. I also use it when I make bread.

Yolanda has several posts about kefir on her site. Just look on her right sidebar for kefir. So far she has 8 articles about it.

Catch em guide service

My new son in law is starting a new business. Its called Catch em guide service. His parents and brother have a guide business in Stockton Mo. where they guide hunters.

Justin, my son in law is starting a fishing guide business. His business will be based in Branson Mo. He will be guiding on the lakes around Branson.
Catch 'em Guide Service fishes from a 18 foot allwelded DuraCraft Boat, powered by a 100 hp Yamaha Outboard. It is equipped with a Minn Kota trolling motor and Humminbird Fishfinders and Navagation.

His web site is: http://www.catchemguideservice.com/

Saving on kleenx

Our family goes through Kleenex like crazy. It is crazy to me to blow you nose on something and then toss it in the trash. It seems wasteful to me.
I asked one of my daughters for pretty bandannas for Christmas and she gave Jeff and I each about 6 each.
I have been using a bandanna for a hankie, the younger girls think its gross. But when I was a kid we all had little white hankies. When I think mine is too icky to use any more I just toss it in the laundry and get another one. I surely have saved at least one box of Kleenex doing this so far.
My step dad uses a bandanna for a hankie all the time. His are worn and soft. It makes sense to me to use something that can be washed and reuse instead of tossing it in the trash.
We try to use less paper towels, and we use cloth napkins, so whats the difference?
The girls say they will always have snot on them even after being washed. If we were hand washing that might be a possibility but for crying out loud we have a nice front loader.
If you use cloth diapers, they don't have poop on them after being washed so why would there be snot on the hankies.
I will continue to use my cloth hankies and I know they will get more worn and soft like my step dad's.

ok just one more

My cat sleeps about 20 hours a day.
He has his food prepared for him.
He can eat whenever he wants, 24/7/365.
His meals are provided at no cost to him.
He visits the Dr. once a year for his checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise.
For this he pays nothing, and nothing is required of him.
He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than he needs, but he is not required to do any upkeep.
If he makes a mess, someone else cleans it up.
He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep.
He receives these accommodations absolutely free.
He is living like a king, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever.
All of his costs are picked up by others who go out and earn a living every day.
I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a brick in the head :

HOLY COW -- my cat is a politician!

On the lighter side....

The little girl stated the Jonah was swallowed by a whale.
Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human being; it was physically impossible.
The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah.
"The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell.
"The little girl replied, "Then you ask him."

I saw this picture titled Christmas cabin and it reminded me of our weather today. The snow is really coming down fast. We have had so little snow this winter its a site to behold. The girls are hoping we get to go sledding.

I have an idea

Now and then I tell Jeff, "I have an idea" I know he must just cringe when I say that. I get ideas often. Some good, some not so much.
My latest idea is about creative writing for my girls. I think it would be fun if they wrote a paper and then published it on my blog.
At one time we had talked about a family newspaper and never got around to it.
This would work along the same lines.
It would help all of us to write in a more correct manner.

When I started this blog it was to be a sort of online journal for my children, friends and family. I wasn't concerned with spelling, punctuation, and such. Now I see it as an opportunity to improve my own writing skills. I guess this blog will be a mix of journal writing and trying to improve my writing skills.

Using the correct word for the job

I made a post about how it bothers me when people mix up words like scrap and scrape. Then the very next post I made I mixed up weather and whether. Actually, this was one I didn't know about. I am glad Aunt Krissy pointed it out to me and gave me the definitions for both of them.
I decided to make this a lesson for my girls. I figured if I didnt know the correct usage of wether/weather/whether they might not either. I am going to have them look up and give the definition of the following words:
weather
wether
whether
scrap
scrape
affect
effect
clothe
clothes
cloth
Does anyone know of other words often misused? I am so happy to learn about the weather/whether/wether one.

Miss Potter

Thank goodness I was never sent to school;
it would have rubbed off some of the originality.

Oops

Someone commented about making soap and also left an invite to visit her blog. I don't know where the comment was left and I cant find it now. If you left the comment please leave another one with your blog address and I will come visit. Some times I'm a doe doe. Sorry.

Found it, responded, never mind.

Thrift store finds

Today while I was in Guymon doing my errands I stopped at the thrift store. I found an end table and a funky chair. The end table is good solid wood and the chair was just cool, its sturdy too. I decided to take them home and paint them white for my porch. I will find something nice to recover the seat of the chair. Maybe something waterproof in a floral. I paid $3.00 each for the furniture. I also found a few tiny pots for plants and a Tupperware pitcher.

At the grocery store I did pretty good too. Using coupons I saved $21.00 and spent $18.43. I always like it when I save more than I spend.

Later I went to WalMart and bought 8 bottles of trial sized Ivory no iron spray. I had free coupons so all I paid was the tax. I splurged while there and bought a brand new puzzle. I don't know if we have never bought brand new puzzles before, we usually buy them second hand. Anyway, I figured if we get the snow that is predicted we will have something new to do.

Its always fun to play games and do puzzles when you are snowed in.

Oh I forgot to get some creamer so I could make some more cocoa mix. Oh well, I am sure we will survive. I will look and see if I can find another recipe that doesn't call for creamer.

This looks like an interesting way to plant potatoes. I may try it. I saved some of the Yukon gold potatoes that got eyes.

I just love this ladies dress. It looks so comfortable. She looks like a sweet grandma too.

Preparing for the storm

We have a forecast of a snow storm that is suppose to leave us 7-8 in. of snow. We have only had two one inch snows so far. Each melting within a day or two. This storm is suppose to keep us home for two days. So I am preparing. Here is what I am doing so far. I may think of other things as I go along.
1. fill 5 gal buckets with water and leave in the tub (for flushing toilet)
2. fill clean pop bottles and milk bottles with water for drinking. (I always keep drinking water) if the elect. goes out we have no water.
3. wash all dirty clothes
4. empty all trash
5. make sure I have oil in my lamps
6. wash all dirty dishes
7. make sure we have enough water for animals
8. I always have a full pantry so I just bought eggs and milk.
9. ???ideas anyone????

Movie review

The girls and I just finished watching Faith like potatoes. Its based on a true story. I like movies that are based on true stories.

Faith like potatoes is about a farmer named Angus who works 7 days a week and isn't getting anywhere let alone ahead. He moves his family from Zambia to Southern Africa where he begins to farm there.

He finds that the struggles are the same as they were in Zambia. Still hard work and no getting ahead. He has a temper and often yells at his help.

At one point his wife pleads with him to go to a mission service. They end up fighting about weather/whether or not he should wear a tie and he ends up almost not going. He does go and wears a tie only to find out that every other man there is tie-less. One man asks him to come to church the next day to hear a farmer like himself talk. He goes, tie-less this time only to discover that all the men have ties on this day. Its kind of a funny bit.

The farmer talks about how he was having a hard time in life and his trials and God really is speaking to Angus through the farmers testimony. The pastor tells the congregation that they too can have the peace that the farmer has and Angus gives his life to God.

It is beautiful watching Angus learn about God. How he grows. Angus in a man of amazing faith in God and the things God promises in the Bible Angus takes as gospel, as we all should. Tragedy strikes and I watched hoping that it wouldn't cause Angus to lose faith in God...

If you want to know if Angus continues to love God or falls away your will just have to watch Faith like potatoes.
Angus's favorite verse, at least the one he refers to a couple of times is the NIV version of this verse.
2 Chronicles 6:37 if they take thought in the land where they are taken captive, and repent and make supplication to You in the land of their captivity, saying, 'We have sinned, we have committed iniquity and have acted wickedly';

It bothers me when....

It bothers me when......
people mix up scrap and scrape
affect and effect
cloth and clothe or clothes
I always wonder why they don't sound out what they just wrote.

I scrap the barrel. Well I scrape the barrel. I gave the dog some scrapes. I give the dog scraps. Its annoying. I'm just saying.

Yummy oatmeal

Dice apples. Saute apples, with coconut oil and sea salt. Add cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and cloves. Add some grade B maple syrup. When they are done they look like the picture above. Add to your cooked oatmeal and enjoy.
source:http://frontyardfoodie.com/

I found these two recipes for oatmeal, they look yummy. We are eating the recipe with the apples for supper tonight.

The pumpkin oatmeal: 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, 1/4 cup egg whites, 1 banana, 1/4 cup pumpkin, 1 T barney butter, cinnamon and agave. SO filling!
I will use real butter and leave out the egg whites when I make this because I am not a vegetarian and don't need to worry about extra protein. Also I will use honey or sugar for the agave because I don't have any of that.

Kombucha

I was pouring a glass of kombucha to drink when I noticed a little baby scooby floating on the top. It was about 2 inches around, the size of the bottle. I had been watching a you tube clip about kefir and remembered that it was time to decant my kombucha and make more.
I have a friend who is part owner of a bar and she saves me the pretty bottles. I wash them and remove the labels and use them to hold spices or decanted kombucha, or tinctures or whatever I want. I can actually smell cigarette smoke on the bottles when I get them. I know that is weird but I like the pretty bottles and I think its better to reuse than to recycle.
I am trying to find recipes to use the kefir. I know how to make kefir smoothies thanks to Candy. Now I think I will try kefir ranch dressing.
I already use the kefir when I make bread or bread products.
We bought blueberries, strawberries and bananas which I will use to make smoothies. Candy makes smoothies with just honey and vanilla, I like to add more to them. I even want to try chocolate.

Some neat images

I would like to try cooking on a range like this although I am not sure I would want to do it all the time.
This girl is wearing a lovely modest dress. It is very becoming on her. I wish our culture appreciated this kind of beauty and dress more. I do love all the bows and ruffles and such. I saw an image of a really old lady in a long gingham dress churning butter and she looked beautiful. I think I will get even more old fashioned in my dress as well as my ideals the older I get.

Make a worm compost bin

Picture of house

The picture of our house on this blog is going to have to be updated this spring when everything is growing good.
We took the two trees in front of the porch out and the ground cover stuff too. The trees had bag worms that is why we took them out. We didn't get anything done with the front area all last summer.
Already this year we have put up lattice trellises on the front of the porch. One has a raised bed in front of it and the other one will soon as well. Then we are making a triangle shaped bed to go where the ground cover was.
Last summer we put an archway with planters part way along the front walk. This year we are going to build new raised bed planters below the arch. Last year we planted morning glories and they looked beautiful on the archway.
When the flowers and plants all start blooming I will take another picture of the front of the house to update the blog.

Free wood

We have been saving money and buying wood for our raised beds for the garden lately. In the last couple of days, two people have told us to go by the construction at the nursing home in town.
Apparently they put wood they are going to toss either in a pile by the dumpster or in a bin for people to take. My friend asked if the wood was for the taking and the man in charge said it was and that many were using it in their fireplaces and wood burning stoves. My friend picked up some pieces she will use to build rabbit nests.
When we got there we were able to find quite a lot of pieces of 2x4 and 2x12's that were about 2 feet long. Being the re user that I am I figured the pieces would work great for the ends of some of the more narrow raised beds we are building.
I plan to stop by again next week and see what is there. Free is my favorite price.

I have been learning a bunch

I have been watching the videos from the Laughing dog farm about the hoop house and boy have I learned a lot.

I am so happy to be learning more about transplanting and planting and such.

I also learned how to vent my existing greenhouse using roll up sides. I am hoping to be able to redo my hoop house to utilize the roll up sides. I had previously thought you absolutely had to have a water cooler to have a greenhouse. Not so, says the man from laughing dog farm. He just uses the roll up sides for ventilation.

I hope to build more hoop houses this summer now.

Quote by Jay Leno

Visit with friends

We had the opportunity of getting to visit with friends who are moving from the Virgin Islands to Montana tonight. They used to be our neighbors and we sure miss them.
They are going from hot, hot, hot to cold, cold, cold. I think they were really ready to leave the islands though. They said it was so Godless there.
I was sure happy to see them. Now we can go see them and go to Yellowstone at the same time.

Recieved as an email

I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.
But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp--
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics and the trash.
There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
Who never said anything nice.
Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.
I nudged Jesus,
'What's the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
God must've made a mistake.

'And why is everyone so quiet,
So somber - give me a clue.'
'Hush, child,' He said, 'they're all in shock.
No one thought they'd be seeing you.
' JUDGE NOT!!
Remember...
Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.
Every saint has a PAST...
Every sinner has a FUTURE!

Pray for Haiti

Please pray for Haiti.
Here is a web site you can browse around to see what is happening there and who is helping.

I know that Haiti has been in the grip of voodoo for a very long time but i also know that God loves the Haitian people too, so pray.

Gardening site I found

I found this site this morning. The man has many you tube videos about hoop house farming. Maybe you would enjoy watching them or reading his site.
http://www.laughingdogfarm.com/
Just so you know, these are ageing hippy type folks who practice some kind of eastern religion. I do not condone their religion or lifestyle, I just want to learn about using a hoop house. My putting their link on my site only conveys that I like their hoop house and nothing else so dont go getting all silly on me.

Go Republicans

It's been a while since I felt hope for the USA. Yesterday's election helped me to feel better about us. The republican win for the Kennedy seat should be telling. Just remember to vote responsibly in November as well.
Continue to pray for our nation.

I sold some stone

I am pleased to say I sold some stone today. Its enough to pay next months payment and still have enough to build 4 more raised beds out front. I'm doing the happy dance. I have it all figured out how I want to build the beds out front.
I think it will be enough to buy two pieces of lattice too. Then I will have the front area the way I wanted it.
I will be growing edible flowers, cucumbers and squash in that area. Maybe even some loofa if I can get it going this year. I have the seeds already.
Next I will just have to make more money so I can build raised beds on the west side of the house. I don't think I will make any raised beds in the garden area this year unless something happens and I just have the money to do that.
I am excited to grow our food. I have lettuce and cilantro growing on the kitchen counter.

This one is for Kay

What is that in your food?

Do you know what you are eating? Really? You think you do don't you. I bet if you really knew what you are eating you would not be very happy. Say no to GMO. Demand that GMO food be labeled as such. Did you know that the FDA does not make Monsanto disclose that much of the food you eat is genetically modified? They dont have to tell you. You can almost bet that pretty much any corn product from corn flakes to corn syrup is GMO.

Garden pockets anyone?

I am constantly amazed by peoples inventiveness. I love seeing how folks with not much space still manage to garden. I love it.
Challenge: I am challenging everyone who reads this to plant a few vegetables or herbs this spring. It is a good way to cut your food bill.

Making new candles from old candles

I made some new candles from used candles and wax today. I cleaned the old candle jars and saved the old wax. I discarded the metal tabs and any paper that was in them or on them.

Next I made my own wicks. To make my wicks I cut cotton string into about 12-15 inch pieces. I soaked them overnight in a solution made of
2 t. salt and 4 t. borax mixed in 2 c. water. This morning I took the strings out of the solution and laid them onto an old kitchen towel to dry. Next I melted some wax, dipped the string into the wax and laid them out straight on my cutting board.
Then I melted more wax and then poured it into jars straining it with a wire mesh strainer to remove any foreign particles. I then fixed the wicks to stay in them with what ever method worked for that jar. I then let the candles harden. As they cool and harden a valley forms on the top. I just poured more wax into the depression and let it harden again.

When they get completely cooled and hardened I will burn one and see what I think about my project. I figured it should smell good with all of those scented waxes I used. I will try to up date this post with my conclusion.
Edited to add: So far the candle seems to be burning fine. At first it lit and then went out, twice and I thought oh dear. But I re lit it and it has been burning for at least 10 min. just fine.

Building raised garden beds

This is the finished raised bed. Then the process going backwards. I always forget how to load the pictures so they come out in the right order.

I am so excited and proud of my family. We are building two raised beds for the garden. I wanted them to first make some for the flower beds around the house so that I can plant lettuce, spinach, herbs, carrots, and such for salads. We went to Home Depot a few weeks ago and were able to purchase enough wood to make two raised beds. Next we will get some manure from Kirby, hopefully he will be able to get some for us soon. Jeff is going to tear out the tomato cages we had placed in the garden. We put them in too solidly. Now we need to take them out so we can rototill the area.

Jeff said we can start out with two raised beds in the garden and then each year just build a few more. That is fine with me. That means I will get four raised beds this year. The thing that he balks about is the price of the lumber since each raised bed takes 6 8ft 2x6's. The cost for lumber and screws for each bed is about $60.00. That is high but I think it will be a good investment. It will sure save my aching back.
Edited to add: I cant imagine the beds cost 60.00 each. I am going to have to check those prices. That is what Jeff told me. No way.
Edited again to add: I checked the lumber prices and the beds cost about 25.00 each with hardware and all. That is easier to handle. Now it seems more reasonable.

By George I think I've got it

I am so excited right now. While developing a thicker formula for pink monkey hand cleaner I believe I have stumbled on the perfect consistency. I had been having trouble with sliminess. This latest batch is thick and no sliminess. The other worked, it just had a sliminess to it.

I cant wait until I get feedback for this new stuff.

Some guys wanted a thicker formula some thought it was fine like it is. I think this new formula is just right for all the guys. Its not too thick and its not thin and slimy. Whoo hoo.

Happy dance.

Kids say the funniest things.

My daughter teaches 2nd grade in Missouri. Today they watched a video about selling magazines and what prizes they could win and earn money for their school and such as that.
Kaleena, (my daughter) had on a jelly type light up ring the kids could win if they sold enough magazines.
They watched the video and after it was over and the lights were still off, Kaleena touched her ring and it lit up and flashed or whatever it did.
One little girl said where did you get that ring? Kaleena said the man gave it to her to show them they could get one too. The little girl said : I am sooooo going to be a teacher, there's no doubt about it." Kaleena about cracked up.
I guess when you are in 2nd grade a good reason to teach is all the free bling.
A few weeks ago one little boy asked her how come she never had to do any work. Kaleena asked him what he meant. He said the kids do all the work, as in work sheets, writing and all that. She patiently explained to him that she grades ALL of their papers, plans the lessons, teaches and on and on and that she does indeed work.
Kids are so funny.

Ok this is the funniest email ever.IMO

Just a reminder of all we have learned this e-mail year.
Thanks!
I just want to thank all of you for your educational e-mails over the past year.
I am totally screwed up now and have little chance of recovery.

I no longer drink Pepsi or Dr. Pepper since the people who make these products are atheists who refuse to put 'Under God' on their cans.

I no longer use Saran Wrap in the microwave because it causes cancer.

AND THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW I can't boil a cup of water in the microwave anymore because it will blow up in my face.. Disfiguring me for life.
I no longer check the coin return on pay phones because I could be pricked with a needle infected with AIDS.
I no longer go to shopping malls because someone will drug me with a perfume sample and rob me.

I no longer receive packages from UPS or Fed Ex since they are actually Al Qaeda in disguise.
I no longer shop at Target since they are French and don't support our American troops or the Salvation Army.

I no longer answer the phone because someone will ask me to dial a number for which I will get a phone bill with calls to Jamaica , Uganda , Singapore, and Uzbekistan ...

I no longer buy expensive cookies from Neiman Marcus since I now have their recipe.

THANKS TO YOU I can't use anyone's toilet but mine because a big brown African spider is lurking under the seat to cause me instant death when it bites my butt.

AND THANKS TO YOUR GREAT ADVICE I can't ever pick up $5.00 dropped in the parking lot because it probably was placed there by a sex molester waiting underneath my car to grab my leg.

I can no longer drive my car because I can't buy gas from certain gas companies!

I can't do any gardening because I'm afraid I'll get bitten by the brown recluse and my hand will fall off.

And I now keep my toothbrush in the living room, because water splashes over 6 ft. out of the commode.
I f you don't send this e-mail to at least 144,000 people in the next 70 minutes, a large dove with diarrhea will land on your head at 5:00 pm.
Tomorrow afternoon and the fleas from 12 camels will infest your back, causing you to grow a hairy hump.
I know this will occur because it actually happened to a friend of my next door neighbors' ex-mother-in-law's second husband's cousin's beautician . .. .

Oh, by the way..... A German scientist from Argentina , after a lengthy study, has discovered that people with insufficient brain activity read their e-mail with their hand on the mouse..

Don't bother taking it off now, it's too late.

Aloe vera plants

Last year I asked a friend who has a green thumb like no other for a couple of aloe vera starts. She brought me two. I just finished re potting 20 babies, some of which were not babies any more. All from those two aloe plants. I am not done. I just ran out of pots. I had purchased several last year meaning to do just this and never got it done. Today I bought two kinds of potting mix and mixed it with per lite and planted the 20. I hope to sell them either from here at home or at the farmers market in Guymon this summer. They will be big by then.

Next I am going to start some lettuce and spinach and a few herbs to grow indoors. I have the perfect place on my counter to put them. Course I put a bunch of other stuff there too. There are lights mounted under the top cabinets which can act as grow lights.
The weather is so nice, I sure am enjoying doing this little bit in the dirt.

Remember my bandanna post?

Loves2spin sent a link to a site where you can fold and twist a bandanna into a doll. It is adorable.
Here's the link:http://www.angelfire.com/my/zelime/Anna.html#howto

Will this be you?

After living what I felt was a 'decent' life, my time on earth came to the end.
The first thing I remember is sitting on a bench in the waiting room of what I thought to be a court house.
The doors opened and I was instructed to come in and have a seat by the defense table.
As I looked around I saw the 'prosecutor.'
He was a villainous looking gent who snarled as he stared at me.
He definitely was the most evil person I have ever seen.
I sat down and looked to my left and there sat My Attorney, a kind and gentle looking man whose appearance seemed so familiar to me, I felt I knew Him.
The corner door flew open and there appeared the Judge in full flowing robes..
He commanded an awesome presence as He moved across the room. I couldn't take my eyes off of Him.
As He took His seat behind the bench, He said, 'Let us begin.'
The prosecutor rose and said, 'My name is Satan and I am here to show you why this man belongs in hell..'
He proceeded to tell of lies that I told, things that I stole, and In the past when I cheated others.
Satan told of other horrible Perversions that were once in my life and the more he spoke, the further down in my seat I sank.
I was so embarrassed that I couldn't look at anyone, even my own Attorney, as the Devil told of sins that even I had completely forgotten about.
As upset as I was at Satan for telling all these things about me, I was equally upset at My Attorney who sat there silently not offering any form of defense at all.
I know I had been guilty of those things, but I had done some good in my life - couldn't that at least equal out part of the harm I'd done? Satan finished with a fury and said, 'This man belongs in hell, he is guilty of all that I have charged and there is not a person who can prove otherwise.'

When it was His turn, My Attorney first asked if He might approach the bench.
The Judge allowed this over the strong objection of Satan, and beckoned Him to come forward.
As He got up and started walking, I was able to see Him in His full splendor and majesty.
I realized why He seemed so familiar; this was Jesus representing me, my Lord and my Savior.
He stopped at the bench and softly said to the Judge, 'Hi, Dad,' and then He turned to address the court.
'Satan was correct in saying that this man had sinned, I won't deny any of these allegations.
And, yes, the wages of sin is death, and this man deserves to be punished.'
Jesus took a deep breath and turned to His Father with outstretched arms and proclaimed, 'However, I died on the cross so that this person might have eternal life and he has accepted Me as his Savior, so he is Mine.'
My Lord continued with, 'His name is written in theBook of Life, and no one can snatch him from
Me.Satan still does not understand yet.
This man is not to be given justice, but rather mercy.'
As Jesus sat down, He quietly paused, looked at His Father and said, 'There is nothing else that needs to be done..'
'I've done it all.' T
he Judge lifted His mighty hand and slammed the gavel down.
The following words bellowed from His lips..

'This man is free. The penalty for him has already been paid in full. 'Case dismissed.'

As my Lord led me away, I could hear Satan ranting and raving, 'I won't give up, I will win the next one.'

I asked Jesus as He gave me my instructions where to go next, 'Have you ever lost a case?' Christ lovingly smiled and said, 'Everyone that has come to Me and asked Me to represent them has received the same verdict as you, ~Paid In Full~'

Honey oatmeal bread (machine)

Honey Oatmeal Bread (breadmachine)

11 1/2 ounces(1 1/4 cup + 3tbsp.) water (80°F)

3 tablespoons honey

3 1/4 cups bread flour

1 cup oats, (quick or old fashioned)

2 tablespoons dry milk

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast(can be used in the breadmachine) OR2 teaspoons bread machine/fast rise yeast

Place in bread machine in order starting with water and ending with yeast.

Basic Bread Setting, unless using fast rise yeast then you can do Basic Rapid Bread Setting.

Makes 2lb loaf

***If you want rolls instead of a loaf of bread, place the bread machine on dough setting. After the cycle is done, take the dough out of the machine and make into 12-24 balls(depending on what size rolls you would like). Place in a greased pan...let rise til double in size(1/2 hour to 45 minutes). Bake in oven at 350° for 15-20 minutes or til golden brown.

These carmel rolls look yummy

Here is a picture of the rolls fresh out of the oven and after being flipped over. I hope you give these a try, and enjoy these as much as we do!

Caramel RollsDough
1/3 c. water
1/3 c. milk
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1/2 c. sugar
1/3 c. dry milk
4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
2 1/2 tsp. yeast
1 stick butter, softened

Caramel 1 c. heavy whipping cream
1 c. brown sugar
You will also need enough butter to spread over rolled out dough, and cinnamon and brown sugar to sprinkle on top.

Directions First put water, milk, and eggs in bread machine. Mix together dry ingredients (sugar, dry milk, flour, salt) and add to bread machine.

Next put add the yeast, and put the butter on top. Start machine. While dough is mixing, begin the caramel sauce by heating the cream and brown sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly.

Heat just until the mixture begins to bubble. Remove pan from heat and allow to cool. When the caramel has cooled, pour it into a greased 13 by 9 pan. When the dough is ready, roll it out into a large rectangle. Spread with butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar. Roll up and slice into 12 rolls. Place the rolls in the pan on top of the caramel.

At this point you can either allow the rolls to double in size and then bake them for 20-25 min. in a 350 degree oven, or you can cover them and let them rise in the fridge overnight. (I usually like to prepare these the day before.)

When you are ready to bake your rolls simply take them out of the fridge and let them sit at room temperature while the oven heats, then bake them for 20-25 min. at 350 degree oven. The rolls are done when they are golden brown on top, and have a hollow sound when you tap them.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before flipping the pan over onto a clean cookie sheet.I was going to take pictures of the different steps along the way, but I forgot.

Fill your pantry-an insurance policy

I am a believer in keeping my pantry as filled as I can afford. It really is an insurance policy. If you can learn to buy in bulk when things are on sale you can be able to buy only sale items.

For example: Last year we bought and canned chicken breast when it was at the lowest price we had seen it, in this case it was 1.79lb. I canned enough to last at least until the next sale. In our case the best price came a whole year later. This time I was able to purchase boneless, skinless chicken breasts for 1.48 a pound. Of course I canned at least another years worth.

I buy flour in 25 or 50 lb. sacks and store in icing buckets I get for free at bakeries. I make bread often enough that I don't worry about bugs because I go thru it fast. Flour seems to go on sale about every 3 to 4 months. At least the price I call a good one. This time I purchased 25lbs for 4.99. This is about the best price I can find.

For my whole wheat flour, I bought a few bushels from a neighbor who grows organic wheat for Bob's red mill. I paid what they got from Bob's. It was much cheaper than buying from the store of course. I then froze and refroze the wheat. It now sits in the basement in 5 gallon buckets. I usually grind 5 to 10 lbs. at a time and store in the extra fridge we have in our garage.

My favorite price is free or close to free so I use coupons.

A couple of days ago I went to United in Guymon for some salad. We like spinach in our salad so I picked up 2 packages of Dole spinach and one package of Cesar salad mix. I noticed they had a recipe booklet in a little rack, I looked at it and sure enough there was a 1.00 coupon in it. United doubles coupons up to 1.00 so that meant I could get 2.00 off per bag. United will only double one like coupon per transaction so I just made 3 separate transactions. I saved 6.00 and paid 2.00 total including tax for 3 bags of salad. Not quite free but pretty good.

I realized I sure could have saved even the 2.00 if I were to grow my own salad mixes. That is why on my side bar I have it listed to plant that. After my initial cost of potting soil and seeds, all of my salad will be free. My favorite price.

This year we all need to plant as much of our food as we can. It may mean a couple of tomato plants, some lettuce and a pepper or two but anything you can grow is more than you had before.

In times past nearly everyone had a garden and I think we need to get back to that. Food doesn't magically appear in the grocers.

Anyway back to my original post.

I buy only things my family likes and we will use. If we never eat sardines even free sardines are not a bargain. Unless you have a friend who loves sardines. Why be a waster?

Another good thing to keep on hand are several kinds of dry beans and rice. Both store well and are good dishes for yummy meals.

I tried canning dry beans but the process was so long, soak, cook and then can it was more time then I wanted to spend. What I do now is soak, cook package into meal sized freezer bags and freeze. When I canned the beans we ate them so fast it wasn't worth the time and bother. So I just cook about 3 to 4 meals worth and freeze. I try to have navy, black and pinto beans frozen for a variety of dishes.

On my birthday a couple of years ago I received a very nice rice cooker. At the time it seemed silly. I started using it and now I love it. Don't buy the cheapo kind get a good one. I have used my rice cooker on mission trips to cook many things. I even took it to a craft day recently filled with canned stew items and it was a hit. I used canned beef, potatoes, carrots and then added beef stock and some barley. We gobbled it up.

Do you have pantry stocking ideas to share?

Bandanna in your purse

Every lady should carry a bandanna or large kerchief in her purse. Why? Because they can be used in so many ways. Here is a list of a few ways they can be used.
1. in place of disposable Kleenex
2. to keep your hair out of your face while working
3. to wipe your hands or arms, etc.
4. wear like a bandit to keep dust out of your nose
5. wet and wear like a bandit is even a better filter. It also helps a wee bit if chemicals are around or spilled.
6. can be used as a bandage, for instance if you cut your arm or leg and don't have anything with you to use, just wrap the bandanna around it until you can deal with it.
7. can be used as a tourniquet (use a tourniquet only as a last resort)
8. can you think of other uses for a bandanna?

On my mind

I am extremely bothered by Christians who say omg or write it. It is blaspheme. Why do they do it? I have a friend from grade school who does not profess to be a christian but she says that almost every other sentence. It bothers me a great deal.
Also by- words. It seems like everyone uses by- words. WHY? Can you not express yourself without saying a by- word? Look those words up on the Internet. See what they mean. If you are going to say a by- word it is exactly the same as saying the actual curse word. Why bother trying to tone it down? Or are you trying to tone it down? Are you just cursing in a way you can get a way with?
I have a niece who is leaving in two weeks for mission work. Tonight on her face book status she said leaving in two weeks omg omg. A missionary saying oh my god oh my god? What?

The free dictionary on line defines it thus:
by·word also by-word
play_w2("B0593500")
(bwûrd)
n.
1.
a. A proverbial expression; a proverb.
b. An often-used word or phrase.
2. One that represents a type, class, or quality: "Polyester got its déclassé reputation in the 1970s after cheap, poorly made double-knit leisure suits became a byword for bad taste" (Fortune).
3. An object of notoriety or interest: The eccentric poet was a byword in literary circles.
4. An epithet.
Look at #4. That is what a by-word is.
An epithet is:
ep·i·thet (p-tht) KEY NOUN:
A term used to characterize a person or thing, such as rosy-fingered in rosy-fingered dawn or the Great in Catherine the Great.
A term used as a descriptive substitute for the name or title of a person, such as The Great Emancipator for Abraham Lincoln.
An abusive or contemptuous word or phrase.
Biology A word in the scientific name of an animal or plant following the name of the genus and denoting a species, variety, or other division of the genus, as sativa in Lactuca sativa.

Seen any good movies lately?

We have joined Net flix. Does anyone know of any good movies to watch? We do not watch anything more than pg 13. No horror. No witchcraft, like twilight etc. Just plain, good , old fashioned family movies.

Any hints or ideas?

Company for supper

I am excited as we are having company for supper. I love having folks over for meals. Its funny though I don't fret and get worked up. Sometimes I even serve beans and cornbread. I just want to be with the people I ask over.

I have a friend who rarely has people over because she thinks the house has to be perfect and the food exotic. I would rather have the house clean and the food good but not have to worry about some finicky dish I am making. When I invite people over I do it to spend time with them not worry about the food I'm cooking.

Over the years I have figured out how to make much of the meal ahead of time and put it in a crock pot to keep warm or just change the menu to something less complicated. I got tired of spending the time in the kitchen while everyone else was out there visiting.

I think I am from the class of KISS. Keep it simple stupid.
Mollie thinks I've lost it because I have invited 20 people over for food and fellowship next Thursday. I will make something easy like sloppy joes, chips, pickles, and pop and we will visit and have a good time. They are friends who are moving from St. Crioux to Montana. Why spend my time allotment cooking when all I wanna do is visit them?

Call me crazy. That's the way I roll. Have a wonderful day.

It's nice here, I even washed one of the front windows and the front door.

Please pray

I just found out that pastor Fred Huff just had a grand Mal seizure resulting from his fall last Wednesday on the ice. Please pray, hard.

Full body scanners

Did you know that the full body scanners they want to be put in every airport tear up your DNA? It rips it up like a zipper. I will never fly again.
Investigate who will benefit monetarily from these scanners.

If a child is exposed it is even worse.
Growing organs will be damaged and not grow correctly.
The scanner is way more invasive than an xray and those aren't good.

Plus they actually can see a person nude. It violates child pornography laws. Which states that pornographic images of children may not be made.

Oh and they want to eventually put these scanners in malls, check points, etc.
We can object to this. The Church's should be up in arms about this.

Wild day

Today Jeff was suppose to sign employment papers, get a drug test and a physical. All went fine until the nurse took his blood pressure. She told him it was dangerously high and he could not go to work. He about fainted. Not from the blood pressure but from maybe not getting to go to work. He said he would be sitting at a desk and could he go ahead and work and then get a doctors appt. The nurse agreed so he got an appointment for the afternoon. He went to the doctor and got two prescriptions. Thank you Jesus.
This evening the girls and I went visiting. All went well until we headed home and I discovered two miles down the road that we had a flat tire. The girls made quick work of changing it. But we sure could have used some Pink Monkey hand cleaner. When we got home I put some in my purse. Oh and it was dark. The girls did a good job as usual.

Jeff's new job

Yippie, Jeff starts his new job today. Thankfully it is in a town nearby so we don't have to move right away if at all.

After more than five months of being jobless we are quite ready to have an income.

I gave my first sewing lesson to a young lady and am thinking about offering sewing lessons as a service to ladies who own a machine but don't know how to use it.

I already have two friends whom I am going to teach to use their machines. One friend helped me set up my account to sell things from this site and the other friend is a fabulous baker and is going to help me in that area. We will both be benefiting from the exchange.

So with the feeling that there might be interest in those areas I am considering the sewing helps for other ladies.

On another topic.

This blog was started as a sort of online diary and recipe collection place for myself and my daughters and mom and sisters and friends to read.

It's my blog and I never dreamed I would have followers let alone other readers. I am thrilled about that. It's just that its my blog and if I misspell something or put something on here that someone doesn't like then so what? Its my blog.

I love it when others read my blog and I always see if they have one of their own and if they do I go read it. I would never presume to tell them how to run their blog or their life. Sometimes I want to, but I realize its their blog. That's how I feel about this blog. If someone doesn't like what I put on here then they don't have to read it. It's just a blog for crying out loud.

If you actually know me you would know that I am not the most diplomatic person alive. Understatement.

But you would also know I try and give and love as good as I can. I wish I were smart like some other bloggers and eloquent, but I am just me,

Rick Warren says not to read your Bible

“The last thing many believers need is to go to another Bible study. They already know far more than they are putting into practice. What they need are serving experiences in which they can exercise their spiritual muscles.”
Rick Warren, propounding his Martha-style Christianity and works righteousness theology.
My response: At a time of unprecedented biblical illiteracy and rampant carnality among evangelicals, the last thing they need is to be told not to study the Bible. But if you aren’t working, you’re just a useless feeder in Rick’s world. And besides. If you actually do read your Bible, you’ll figure out pretty quickly just how off base Rick Warren’s social gospel really is.
