Orphans Unlimited Report

Subject: Blog, June 29, 2011I’m on the road to Pemba for government meetings in a few hours, but wanted to give you a quick update on the last 10 days.

FOUR WATER WELLS IN MELUCO county are being marked this week, and drilling will begin next week.The water spotting team is having trouble finding water in 2 of the villages, but the team continues to search the area with the help of the “old timers” who know where the water has been in decades past.

The Elephant Village HAS UNDERGROUND WATER, and so does our mission station, so those 2 wells will not be a problem.It is sad that these other 2 desperatte villages may actually have to move if water cannot be located for them.

We spent our last 10 days buying 5 tons of rice (in the hull), and 1.5 tons of peanuts still in the shell.It keeps very well for up to a year without spoilage if left in the wrapping that God gave it.

Tonight we are having a going away party for Dave Deboer, who goes to Pemba with me tomorrow. His 6 weeks with us are up, and it is time for him to fly back to the USA.He will be GREATLY missed. We send our thanks to his wife for allowing him to come for his 3rd trip in 3 years to give us a helping hand. Dave’s gift is “helps”, and he is very good at it.He did a great job in orientating Don Hitsman to continue in his footsteps, as Don won’t leave till Aug. 13th.

Both these men have done a great job in taking many burdens off my back during this food buying time.

The three young women are busy doing many evangelical dramas and have organized a Youth Night for teenagers.

Linda Stanley keeps us all in smiles as she ramrods the kitchen, keeping us all very well fed.

Eric is busy training Rebecca Harris to make Christian radio programs in Makua and she is now completing programs on her own.This is a big help for Eric.

All is well, and we appreciate your prayers.Blessings, BBB and the Balama Team

I am happy to hear that Becca is doing fine. If you remember I told you that her mom hadnt heard from her since the 14th. Thank God for his protection and provision for all of us.

Take some time to watch this video. You might learn something.

This n that

~Yesterday at church Becca's mom said she had not heard from Becca since the 14th. If you remember Becca is the missionary who went to work with orphans unlimited in Moz Africa.
Please pray for communication to be reinstated what ever the problem may be.

~Its hot here already. I just put the last load on the line. I have to get up earlier to get the laundry done from now on.

~The girls went to play basketball at the park, hope they don't over heat.

~Our family has started taking iodine. What with the Fukashima, Nebraska and now New Mexico stuff going on its best to be sure your body is saturated so radiation goes on through. Besides iodine is really good for your body. Doctors used to prescribe it all the time and it was even put in bread. Now they put Bromide which is a toxin in instead. One more reason to make your own bread from flour you grind yourself.

~Tomorrow is the day I give my talk at the summer reading program at the local library. I am a little nervous about this so pray for me if you think of it.

~I hope that all of you have a blessed day and be safe.

Who does the land of Israel belong to?

To Whom Does The Land of Israel Belong?
An Israeli Sense of Humor at UN set the record straight. An ingenious example of speech and politics occurred recently in the United Nations Assembly and made the world community
smile.
A representative from Israel began: 'Before beginning my talk I want to tell you something about Moses: When he struck therock and it brought forth water, he thought, 'What a good opportunity to have a bath!'
Moses removed his clothes, put them aside on the rock and entered the water. When he got out and wanted to dress, his clothes hadvanished.

A Palestinian had stolen them! The Palestinian representative at the UN jumped up furiously and shouted, 'What are you talking about? The Palestinians weren'tthere then.' The Israeli representative smiled and said, 'And now that we have made that clear, I will begin my speech..'

God Provides

Hannah, Jeff and I went to garage sales today. We were able to buy a really nice mattress for the trundle/couch bed in the girls place. Now we have a bed for Joy when she moves down here in August. The nice mattress only cost $15.00. We had priced new ones and the cheapest one we found was at Sam's Club for $99.00 and it was pretty thin.

We still need another mattress for the trundle part of the bed but at least we now have a bed for the top part. The girls were having to lay a blanket down and sit on that.

We were also able to buy a new to us microwave to replace the one in their camper that came with it that did not work.

So today we spent $20.00 and got a twin mattress and a microwave. Not too bad.

Now we need a good refrigerator for their place and a few small things and then we should be set. Their freezer works but the fridge lets meat and cheese get moldy so we cant use that part. We are praying for the Lord to show us where a reasonably priced refrigerator can be found. I have no doubt He will provide.

Planting guide for zone 8b

I found a chart for growing zone 8b which is where I live. I need to study it so I can figure out how, what and when to plant here. I know you are not in zone 8 but this is how I save things.

Kitchen garden

I have been reading about kitchen gardens. I am trying to figure out what the difference between a garden and a kitchen garden is. I think it is the same thing.

I am propagating 4 tomato plants from suckers I took off 4 other tomato vines. I am going to plant some more zucchini and yellow squash and some cucumbers today. I want to keep my garden going as long as I can. My first squash are all done. This is the first year I have ever had squash that didn't get buggy.

The okra is only about a foot high but already has blooms. I think plants don't grow as tall here in Texas as they do in Oklahoma. They produce but they are so small. My tall fence by the tomatoes looks kind of funny since I sure didn't need it. I will take it down and use it somewhere else.

The tomato plants look kind of dead but are still producing tomatoes. Its really different here. I will just keep planting and learning.

How I save $144.00 a year

It has come to my attention that my mental math isn't as good as I had previously thought. lol Thanks Gabe, miss you too.

I am able to save $144.00 a year just by making my own ice cubes. I figured out that we were spending $3.00 or more a week buying bags of ice. I decided to see if my small RV refrigerator freezer unit would freeze ice cube trays. I bought 3 packages of trays, washed them, filled them with filtered water from the sink and put them in the freezer.

I takes two to three days for the trays to freeze but that's just about how long the previous ice cubes lasted. I bought a few more trays until I had a total of 12 trays. I also bought a small dish pan to use as a ice cube bin. The total I spent for trays and bin was less than $10.00. By the way I do not like the ice cube trays I found at WalMart. The best ones I have found were are Dollar General priced at 2 for $1.25.

Now every two or three days I empty all the ice trays into the dish pan and refill them. Since starting this experiment several weeks ago we have only bought ice, once. That's much better than three times a week like we did before the trays.

Years ago, when I was still a girl at home we always used ice trays. Now days everything is about being easy. Stop at the store and pick up a bag of ice. Worse yet, drive to town and buy ice. Cringe. When I think of all the money I could have saved by always using ice cube trays.....oh dear.

It does take time. Maybe 5 minutes to dump and refill the trays. Yeah, I have five minutes to save $1.00. That works out to $60.00 an hour if I did it for a full hour. So you could say I am saving $60.00 an hour by making my own ice cubes. Or better yet, I am not paying someone else $60.00 an hour to make ice for me. That isn't even including the ridiculous price of gasoline.

If you live most places bags of ice are much more than $1.00 as well, we just happen to have a place that you can buy it that cheap. WalMart is even more expensive than that.

Do you make your own ice, have an ice maker or buy ice?

Thank him

I wrote a post about doing something for your husband everyday. I'm trying to make it a habit for myself. My friend Yolanda wrote in the comments that her husband is retired so they are together every day and that she thanks him for something every day. I thought that was a nice idea.

So, today lets thank our husbands for something. You figure out what to thank him for. I am sure there are thousands of things so you will have to narrow it down.

Tomorrow, write on a piece of fruit for his lunch or a sandwich or something in his lunch. But try to make it kind of unexpected instead of just a note in his lunch.

Thank you God for the rain

South Texas has had little rain the past few years and is experiencing draught conditions. This morning at about 6 am it began to rain. Not a mist but a good rain. Not a down pour, just a really nice rain. Thank God for his provision. I have been praising Him all morning for the rain.

I was planning to wash sheets and pillows today but I am instead enjoying the wonderful gift from our savior instead.

Can you tell I am excited about this wonderful gift of rain?

~Today ladies wont you write a short note of encouragement for your husband and sneak it into his wallet by the money so next time he goes to buy something he will find it?

I will be giving hints of encouraging things to do for your husband each day. If you have neat ways to encourage your husband please leave a comment.

My sister Naldy said she writes notes on bananas or other fruit that you don't eat the skin with a marker. I think that will be on our list soon.

Recycle your cooking grease or oil

Last weekend I bought this beauty at an estate sale for $2.00. I don't cook with much oil so I have been using it instead of my 1 1/2 gallon kettle to boil water for tea. I think we are going to have to go back to more old timey ways of doing things, using less, reusing more and being super frugal. This pot has already come in very handy for me and will continue to give me good service.

Solar cooker update

My sweet potatoes didn't get cooked. I think I need to get some oven bags. I will try again after I go to the store and update again.

What are you all up to?

~This morning I hoed in the garden for a bit. I'm trying to do a bit each day to win the war on weeds. LOL

~I am also doing laundry. I put a load into the washer and let it agitate while I water the container plants for rinse and hang the last load, then I turn off the washer and go inside and mess around in there for a bit. Then I go back out and do it all over again. Now that the girls live next door they have been doing their own laundry so it is much easier for me. When I wash blankets or other big things thy will still have to help me.

~Speaking of washing blankets. My clothes line is not super heavy duty so when I wash heavy items I pull out my ladders and hose them down (they are metal) and then have the girls help me get the blanket up and over and let it dry that way. Works great.

~I am seriously going to get a job this fall. With the girls not in this house I need more to do. I think I might like home health care as opposed to working in a hospital or nursing home. I think the one on one action would be something I would enjoy. I used to clean for elderly folks so I think that would be similar.

~What are all of you up to today?

WHAT WAS THOUGHT IMPOSSIBLE…Was completed in 15 days!!!!

Our team of super missionaries and 80 Mozambican men did an amazingjob by moving 30-35 TONS of corn per day!

God sent me the most amazing team of missionary helpers this year, and I can't thank them enough for their sweat and determination in makingthis happen in record time. Some days they were hard to recognize under all the dirt stuck to their bodies. Nothing was white except their mouth and nose which was covered by a dust mask. But nothing deterred them,and their hard work will feed the multitudes over the next 12 months.

450 TONS of corn and 104 TONS of dried beans now fill our 3 barns to the brim! Sylvai, our orphanage administrator in Meluco, says that UNICEF was so impressed with our assistance of orphans in Meluco County, that they are taking their assistance to other counties in this state where Orphans Unlimited doesn’t work. Their words were “you’ve got itcovered”. "We'll go where you aren't working."That is quite a compliment coming from such a large organization.

DISTRIBUTION STARTS THIS WEEK TO MELUCO COUNTY’S 511 ORPHANS

Drought during the rainy season killed most of the corn and beans inMeluco where the “Elephant Village” kids and 400 other orphans live.

This Tuesday, our 6 ton truck will begin the first of 12, TWO DAYtrips (9 hours each way) to provide the food needed for the 511orphans we now assist in Meluco County

THANKS TO YOUR LOVE GIFTS.WATER WELLS DRILLING IN MELUCO COUNTY STARTS THIS WEEKFOUR WELLS will be drilled in 4 different villages of Meluco countywhere water is in short supply.

These people have lived for many years with strict, "county wide"water rationing due to the lack of working wells.Thanks to your Love Gifts, O.U.’s water well team repaired 17 wells inthat county last year bringing much relief to those villages.These 4 new wells are being placed where no water wells exist.

YOUR LOVE GIFTS ARE MAKING A BIG IMPACT ON THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE.By showing the Love of Jesus, we know that GOD’S LIVING WATER (HisWord) will follow as these people come to know the one true God wholoves them so.

BUSH BUNNY TIDBIT:Two days ago, 5 men came to my door. They are members of our Nsewe Bchurch which we planted last year in the remotest village of ourcounty. (one of the "ends of the earth places" the Bible talks about)What was a village "lost in witch craft", is now “seeing the Light”,and boasting over 50 church members. These church members formed an agricultural coop, so we agreed to buy corn from their bountiful harvest this year.These church members took their TITHE and bought 5 sacks of cement in order to cement the pulpit area of their church. They came to me,asking help to transport the cement the 24 miles to their village. Dave Deboer gladly delivered it for them.This act of responsibility in paying their Tithe is VERY RARE in our churches, and I admit that it brought tears to my eyes.It usually takes YEARS to get these people to understand tithing.

THE WIDOW’S MITE:For the second time, the widows of our 23 orphan homes in Balamabrought in their tithe. Last Sunday, these widows, who dedicated their “retirement years” to caring for orphans, marched in together with colourful fabric wrapped around cook pans full of corn and beans. Each year, we give these woman a small area of our 40 acres to farm. Armed with hoes and machetes, they do a wonderful job of training our orphans to farm. Their testimony is strong, as all are elderly, some blind, and others crippled. They abound in determination, and God honors their “love” each year with a bountiful harvest.

Blessings, my friends!

Making a solar cooker

I have been missing using my oven. Its just not practical in this 5th wheel, it just plain gets too hot. The coolest we have been able to get it in here when its 99 or above is 81, until today, but more on that later.

I was thinking and pondering on what I could do about my problem of not being able to bake, and hardly even able to cook because of the heat. Should I buy an electric stove and put it somewhere outside the camper? No, it already looks hillbilly enough around here according to my kids. If I put one in the storage trailer it would just heat it up in there and I would have a hard time keeping an eye on anything that was baking.

Finally I remembered solar cooking. So today I put together a solar cooker much like the one in the picture and have two sweet potatoes baking right now. We already had the sun shade, and a very small portable grill so I just folded the shade into a shape like the one in the picture, put a few pieces of packing tape in strategic places, placed it in one of the big buckets I use to rinse my clothes when doing laundry. Placed the bucket on the wagon with the shade inside. I then put the small grill which is black down into the funnel shape and placed the rack on top. I went inside and washed two sweet potatoes and wrapped them in foil just like I would if I were going to cook them in a regular oven. I poked a couple of holes in the foil and placed the potatoes on the rack.

Now I will see in a few hours how well my oven works. According to the directions I found I should go outside every hour or two and turn the oven to point directly at the sun. That's part of the reason I put the whole contraption in the wagon so I could move it around as needed.

If this works I will continue to experiment and cook outside for free and not have to heat up my house. How cool is that? No pun intended.

I will update on how this all works out.

~~~~~~Now about doing something to keep it cooler in here.~~~~~~
Last year we invested in window shades that attach to the outside of the windows and reflect something like 80% of the heat. They work but here in Texas the 20% heat left over is stifling.
I figured if the solar sun shades work in the car they could work in here so now all the windows except two small ones at each end of the slide out have the window shades on the outside and solar shades on the inside. I do not like not being able to see out but you cant have everything. Right now it is 96 outside and 78 inside. If this keeps up into the afternoon hours we will know that it helps. If we had a carport over the top of the camper that would really help but that is not in our future so you deal with what you have.
Happy Fathers Day
I am blessed to have a dad and a step dad. I couldn't find a picture on my computer of my step dad but he is great, just like my dad.
Happy Fathers day to both of my dads. I love you.
Last Respects
Last Respects...
One day the members of a large church were greeted with a sign on the front door. The sign said: "The person who has been hindering your walk with the Lord has died."
We invite you to attend the funeral after this mornings service." At first everyone was sad to hear that one of their fellow members had died, but after a while they started getting curious about who this person might be that had hindered their walk with the Lord.
The interest grew as the members arrived to pay their last respects. Everyone wondered: "Who is this person who was hindering my progress?" One by one the members got closer to the coffin and when they looked inside it they suddenly became speechless. They stood over the coffin, shocked and in silence, as if someone had touched the deepest part of their soul. There was a mirror inside the coffin and everyone who looked inside it could see their own reflection.
One by one the members realized that they had only themselves to blame for not taking time to read their Bible daily, not going to the Lord in prayer, not allowing God to use them, not serving the Lord as they should. It was no ones fault but their own that they were not growing in their walk with the Lord. It wasn't long til conviction set in, repentence was put forth, revival broke out, and lives were changed. Are you hindering your own walk?
Recipe on a bottle
This is a super neat idea. Go here for more info:http://www.seriouseats.com/2011/06/salad-dressing-bottle-recipe.html
Recent Prayer Requests
My son in law's uncle suffered a stroke while riding his motorcycle and wrecked and is on life support. If you scroll down to the video you can see him. He is the older white bearded fellow. He had the stroke a few days after the filming of this video.
My nephew and wife just had a new baby and she was taken to the hospital yesterday with a fever of unknown origin. Her name is Emma Irene.
Friends from our church movement (pastors actually) had and baby a few days ago and unknown to them she had heart problems. Apparently the left 2 chambers of her heart are much smaller than the right side causing significant problems as the blood just skips that area and is not circulated properly. Her name is Hayle Brooke.
I have a grand idea.
I have this grand idea. My daughter is pregnant and is due in December. I know its hard to take care of a new baby, clean and think of meals to cook, let alone cook them. So I thought, what if I could make up meal kits that are non perishable, place them in a 5 gal. bucket and take it to her when the baby comes. I could have all the ingredients packaged together and recipes to go with them.
I am now in the process of putting together a list of meals I could do this with. I also thought this would be a good emergency kit to have as a grab n go or keep in the car or pick up. You would also have to have a means of cooking if you wanted to use this as a grab n go kit. For that I would make a #10 can stove to store along side of my grab n go bucket.
I have included bottles of water needed just to cook the meals in my list. A better alternative would be to have a couple of gallon jugs of water (cheaper) by your grab n go bucket beside your #10 can stove. I think I would also put a set of those disposable salt and pepper sets that come already filled for picnics. Also paper plates, paper towels, and plastic utensils.
Also if this were my grab n go bucket I would add a few things like a metal spoon for cooking, cups/glasses and some beverage mixes. I think it would end up having to be stored in a tote instead of a bucket because of trying to be all inclusive.
Here are a few meal ideas I have come up with so far. Help me out with your ideas.
#1 tuna/noodles ~1 can tuna, 1-2 c. egg noodles, 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1 can of sweet peas, use the water from the peas to dilute the soup, salt, pepper and bouillon.
#2 chicken/noodles ~ 1 jar chicken (I can my own so I would use that), 1-2 c. egg noodles, chicken bouillon, 1 bottle water, salt and pepper.
#3 beef stew ~ 1 jar stew meat ( I can my own so I would use that), 1-2 can potatoes, 1-2 can mixed vegetables, 1 package biscuit mix.
#4 pork chili ~ 1 jar pork meat, 1 jar tomatoes, 1 can green chilies, 1 c. dried re fried beans, 1 or 2 bottle(s) water, tortilla mix to make tortillas.
#5 beef/noodles ~ 1 jar beef meat (I can my own so I would use that), 1-2 c. egg noodles, beef bouillon, 1-2 bottles water.
#6 Mexican casserole ~ 1 jar beef or pork cubes (I can my own so I would use that), 1 can cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 c. cheese powder, 2 T. taco seasoning, Frito type chips.
#7 beans & corn bread ~ 2 cans or jars pinto beans, 1-2 package corn bread mix, powdered egg for corn bread mix if called for, (I haven't used these for years so I cant remember what you need to make them), 1-2 bottle water, honey to put on corn bread. I am having a friend save her baby food jars for me so one of them filled with honey would be just about right for one meal.
#8 creamed dried beef on biscuits ~ 1 jar dried beef slices, powdered butter and milk to make a white sauce, biscuit mix.
#9 chicken n rice ~ 1 jar chicken (I can my own so I would use that), 1 can cream of chicken soup, chicken bullion, 1-2 c. rice, 1-2 bottle(s) water.
#10 potato soup ~ instant potatoes, powdered milk, powdered cheese, celery salt, salt, pepper, 2 bottles water.
#11 tuna or chicken or salmon patties ~ 1-2 cans meat desired, powdered egg, 1. cracked wheat cooked or cooked rice (you would have to cook this obviously), rosemary, garlic salt.
#12 Taco Soup ~ 2 cans beans, 1 c. dried beans (we use these for refried beans), 1 jar diced tomatoes or can, 1 can corn, 1 1/2 T. chicken bouillon, 2 T. taco seasoning, 1/4 c. dried cilantro.
#13 Chili ~ 1 can prepared chili, 1-2 can beans, 1 can or jar tomatoes.
#14 Ramen Lentil Salad ~ 2 pkgs. Ramen noodles (crushed), 1 c. cooked lentils, 1 c. cooked rice (you can cook the rice and lentils together), mandarin oranges, 1/2 c. mung beans (sprouted, obviously this needs to be done 4 days in advance), chicken chunks, Italian dressing.
#15 Spaghetti ~ 1/2 pkg. angel hair pasta, 1 jar/can spaghetti sauce, baking mix (to make bread sticks), garlic.
#16 Macaroni & Cheese ~ 1-2 c. macaroni, powdered milk, powdered cheese, butter buds, 1-2 bottles water.
#17 Chicken n dumplins ~ 1 jar/can chicken, chicken flavored bouillon, bisquick mix, water.
#18 Sweet & Sour chicken over rice ~ 1 jar/can chicken, 1-2 c. rice, 1 jar sweet & sour sauce.
#19 Bar b que chicken sandwiches ~ flour, yeast, sugar, etc to make buns or bread, 1 jar/can chicken, 1 bottle bar b que sauce.
#20 hot pork sandwich ~ 1 jar/can pork, brown gravy mix, instant potatoes, biscuit mix. Eat like a hot beef sandwich.
#21 Pork gravy and fried potatoes ~ 1 jar/can pork, brown gravy mix, 1 jar potatoes, olive oil, salt & pepper.
#22 Goolash ~ 1 lb. macaroni, 1 jar spaghetti sauce with meat, 1 can tomatoes or rotel.
Breakfast Ideas
#1 Biscuits and gravy ~ 1 package pepper gravy mix, bisquick.
#2 Oatmeal ~ Oats, butter buds, powdered milk, raisins or other dehydrated fruit if desired, brown sugar and salt.
#3 Pancakes ~ Pancake mix (just add water) butter buds, coconut oil (mix butter buds and coconut oil together for spreadable butter) and syrup.
How to leave a comment on my blog
It has come to my attention that not every one knows how to leave a comment. I was trying to remember how I learned to comment and I think I just messed around until I figured it out. So I thought it might be a good idea to explain how to leave a comment.
#1 click on the word comment at the bottom of the post you would like to comment on.
#2 On the right of the window that pops up will be a box that says Leave your comment.
#3 Write your comment in that box. Be sure to sign your name at the end of you comment so I know who you are.
#4 Below the comment box it asks you to choose an identity. If you choose to post Anonymously be sure to leave your name at the end of your comment or I might not post your comment.
#5 Click publish your comment.
#6 Then it should say that your comment is awaiting moderation.
Reader question answered
Most of the time that I get questions I answer them in the comments. Today I received a question that I thought some other ladies might have so I will answer it here.
Question:I do have a question. Is it worth couponing if I don't buy processed foods? I mean, I generally go to the store and just get basic things like onions and bananas... I don't buy any breakfast cereals or pancake mixes or anything. Can I coupon effectively for just plain food?
Answer: Generally for food basics its not realistic or sometimes even possible to buy staples with coupons. They rarely go on sale and even more rarely have coupons that can be used to save on them. I also do not buy lots of processed foods so my main coupon usage is for non- food items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, vitamins and the like. So if you only buy plain food then, NO, its not worth it.
If you do buy lots of processed food then yes you can save loads with coupons.
Wanna know how twins are made?
Made you smile didnt it?
Come summer story hour
Pink Monkey will be at the Hallettsville Public Library on Tuesday June 28th at 10:00am for the summer reading program. We will be talking about how soap was made in the old days vs how soap is made now days at home. I will also talk about how I make soap different than most people do.
After a period of question and answers the children will make their own room/body sprays to take home.
I will explain about mixing essential oils and give each child a small sample of my homemade soap to take home and try.
Prayer request.
My son in laws uncle is the white bearded man in this video. He suffered a stroke and wrecked his motorcycle just days after this video was made. He is on life support. They were going to pull the plug but he showed signs. He is a Godly man. Please pray.
Hillbilly Housewife Magic Milk Shake recipe
I love these milk shakes. They are so much more affordable than going to Dairy Queen or Sonic. I never have canned non stick spray, she says not to expect the same results without it but we have never used it and we love these shakes.
I am always wanting something cold and chocolate and this fits the bill.
Magic Milk Shakes
1-1/2 to 2 cups ice water
1-1/2 cups nonfat dry milk powder
2/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 to 1-1/2 trays of ice cubes, as much as you can spare
2 tablespoons corn oil plus a 5-second squirt of non-stick spray for emulsification purposes
Place all of the ingredients into the blender, including the oil and the non-stick spray. Use less water for thicker milk shakes and more water for shakes that are easy on your blender motor. The blender should be about 3/4′s full. Place the lid on. Process for a full 2 minutes. Pour into cups and serve. Makes 4 – 12oz servings. For preparation tips please see below.
I love this recipe because it makes very rich milk shakes without any ice cream. I don’t always have ice cream in the house because the kids eat it so fast. With this recipe we can have delicious frosty milk shakes for a fraction of the cost of those using ice cream. And all the ingredients are on the pantry shelf.
Reader’s Tip: A reader named Chris made these with Splenda replacing the sugar measure for measure and said they turned out perfectly. If you like Splenda, then this tip would be a great way to reduce the calories and make them sugar-free. Thanks for sharing Chris!
Variations:
Add 1 tablespoon of instant coffee for a mocha shake
Add 1 very ripe banana for a chocolate banana shake
Add a big spoonful of peanut butter for a decadent Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake.
Add a few broken red and white candy mints for a refreshing Chocolate Mint shake.
To make Vanilla Milk Shakes, omit the cocoa powder, reduce the sugar to 1/2-cup and add 1 tablespoon (yes a full tablespoon) of vanilla flavoring. For a french vanilla milk shake crack in an egg too.
I dont have a blender so I halved the recipe and made it in my huge Dollar Tree glass mug with a hand held blender. Worked great.
Chrislam Starts To Spread In America
Chrislam Starts To Spread In America
Pastors that are really wolves in sheep’s clothing
You knew this day was going to come, when the liberal “love gospel” preachers who, desiring to fill their seats and bank accounts, would find a way to merge apostate christianity with the Devil’s religion of Islam.
That day is here. And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write;
These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” Revelation 3:14-16
Rick Warren with his new best friend, Christ rejector Cat Stevens, who changed his name to Yusef Isalm
Just recently, Rick Warren, founder and pastor of Saddleback Community Church in Orange County California, addressed the convention of the Islamic Society of North America. Warren stated that Muslims and Christians must work together to combat stereotypes, promote peace and freedom, and solve global problems. Christians and Moslems – faith mates, soul mates and now work mates! Chrislam! source – Whole Truth Help
Quote of the Day: “Before we “shake your hand” in responding to your letter, we ask forgiveness of the All-Merciful One and of the Muslim community around the world.” – Rick Warren in a speech to Muslims.
This weekend, the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston along with Christian communities in Atlanta, Seattle, and Detroit will initiate a series of sermons that have been designed to produce an ecumenical reconciliation between Christianity and Islam.
In addition to the sermons, the Sunday school lessons will center on the inspired teachings of the Prophet Mohammad. Qurans will be placed in the pews next to the Bibles. (NOTE: Due to the overwhelming response that this article has generated, the Pastor of Memorial Church has issued a semi-denial of the events we reported.
They do not, however, deny supporting and teaching a doctrine called “Jesus in the Koran. Click here to read their semi-denial. So until other information is made available to NTEB, we will run the story as is, along with their side, and you the reader can decide what’s going on. But people, ask yourself…would any real, bible believing church try and teach it’s members about “Jesus in the Koran”? That’s blasphemy.)
Chrislam must be stopped now. If your church teaches this heresy - run!
The concept of Chrislam, now embraced by such preachers as Rick Warren and Robert Schuller, appears to have emerged from a program on the meaning of “love your neighbor” at Grace Fellowship Church in Atlanta, Georgia
“In 2001, like most Americans, we were pretty awakened to the true Islamic presence in the world and in the United States,” says Jon Stallsmith, the outreach minister at Grace Fellowship. “Jesus says we should love our neighbors. We can’t do that without having a relationship with them.”
Stallsmith maintains that a rapprochement between Muslims and Christians can be achieved by the fact that Jesus is mentioned twenty-five times in the Quran.
The Chrislam movement has gained impetus by statements from President George W. Bush and that Christians, Jews, and Muslims all worship the same God and by Rick Warren’s reference to Isa (the Muslim name for Jesus) in his prayer at the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
Only 30 percent of Americans have a favorable view of Muslims, according to a Pew Forum poll. At the same time, more than half the country says they know “not very much” or “nothing at all” about the Islamic faith. “The recent political developments and the fact that we’re fighting two wars in Muslim countries should sharpen that need to know how to talk to these guys,” Stallsmith insists “We want to find peace, reconciliation around a scriptural understanding of Jesus.”
Jesus in the Quran is neither the only-begotten Son of God nor the Messiah who was divinely appointed to restore the House of David. He is rather viewed as a prophet who was appointed by Allah to prepare mankind for the coming of Mohammad.” source – The Last Crusade
How I organize my coupons
The first thing I do is buy 10 Sunday papers at the Dollar Tree, making sure they all have coupon inserts. Its cheaper to buy the Sunday paper at the Dollar Tree because its only a dollar. Also a tip~~on weeks there is a holiday there will be NO coupon inserts
OK~ After I buy my papers and take the coupons out and try to give the rest of the papers away I bring them home and stack all like inserts together. First by sorting all the Red Plums together, etc. then I sort each like coupon.
See the stack to the right on the TV tray? Those are all pages from the inserts that don't have coupons on them. Get rid of them, that's just wasted weight in your folders.
This is the trash from just one kind of insert, IE Red Plum.
Then I pick up a stack of coupons and line them up and staple them together to make cutting them easier.
This blurry picture shows how I stapled front and back.
OK, now each set of like coupons are stapled together.
You can now file the pages of inserts into a file folder or you can go a step further.
This is how I organize the inserts. As you can see I was just sliding the whole sheets into the folders and this was still somewhat disorganized for me, even though I labeled the folder with the date I bought the papers. This is important because when I read the blogs about what sales are at which stores and coupon match ups they always say use the $2.00 Q from the RP from 6-5-11 and I need to know where my coupons from 6-5-11 are.
I decided to go one step further and staple and cut like coupons and save even more space and get rid of more paper. Now when I want a coupon from the RP insert from6-5-11 I can pull out all 10 of my coupons for that product because they are stapled together. If there is a whole row of toothbrush coupons for example I may just leave the row together but cut it from the rest of the page.
After the coupons are sorted, stapled and cut, I then file them in the folder marked for that week.
This is my shopping coupon folder, the one I take to the store with me. Its about 5X7 inches or so.
It is a smaller accordion type file.
I got that huge blister from weeding the garden with no gloves.
I always carry a copy of the stores coupon policies. Don't ever think that even the managers know their own store policies. Most do not. If you have your copy with you, you can show it to the checker who may still call over a manager but I have never had one argue with me after I showed them their own store coupon policy.
I also make a list on the computer of what I will be buying and any coupons I will be using. I have different stores on one list.
I then paper clip the coupons I will be using at each store. I have a paper clipped bunch for each store I will be shopping at. I then use a sticky note on the front of each bunch of coupons so I know which ones to grab out of my small file folder and hand to the cashier.
I love finding sales and matching up coupons. I love being a good steward of the money my husband works so hard for. I also love being able to give good things to those in need. Before I started using coupons it was hard for me to give quality products to those who needed them because I always had generic in my home. Now we have the opportunity to use more name brand items but spend less than we did when I only bought the cheapest, generic or otherwise.
I will try to post more about using your coupons as the days go by or if you have questions, please leave them in the comments so I can answer them as I am able.
BUSH BUNNY AND HER FRIENDS IN HOME STRETCH OF CORN RACE
Our team moved 163 TONS of corn into our 2 corn barns this week, averaging 30+ tons a day.
With our old record being 20 tons/day, I have to attribute this increase in speed to the hard work put in by our “speedy six” missionaries who made it happen. Never in the history of this mission have I had such great help. The girls have stuck with it, and have shown how tough they really are. It’s a dusty, dirty job and they all come home with a smile on their faces and covered in dirt. They know that this food is the life line for our 1,711 orphans, and they are making a difference in those lives by helping to secure the needed food for the next 12 months.
With only 700 bags (53 TONS) of corn left to bring in, our barns will be full by June 17th if all goes as planned this week.
All of us are ready to move on to other ministry projects and begin preparing for our first food distributions to remote villages.
Our 6 ton truck will stay very busy as, Manuel, my friend and only employee to be with me the whole 12 years in Moz., will begin hauling 40-50 tons of this corn to Meluco District, where we have 511 orphans (includes the 111 at the Elephant village).
Most of the corn planted in Meluco was destroyed by the strong African sun when short droughts destroyed 2 different plantings of corn in Dec. and January.
ELEPHANT VILLAGE CHILDREN ON THE MEND
I was pleasantly surprised when my office notified me of the many unexpected love gifts given at the end of May designated for the Elephant Village Orphans. Many THANKS to all of you who gave to provide the remaining blankets, grass mats, and beds for these children. All the children are showing improvement in energy and weight gain, as 27 of them were severely malnourished and 2 are physically unable to walk. I plan to visit these children in July and will keep you posted on their progress. It will take prayer, time, food, and lots of love. With Jesus ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE to those who believe.
In my 21 years of service in Moz., I’ve noticed that children are very resilient, no matter how badly they have been neglected, and respond rapidly to food and love. THANK YOU for making it possible for us to rescue and provide for these precious “Gems of Jesus”.
4 WATER WELLS TO BE DRILLED IN MELUCO COUNTY IN JULY
Our Meluco mission station and the Elephant Village will each receive a water well in early July, thanks to those who gave so generously into our water well project this year. Water is so precious near our Meluco mission station, that we employ a man to go to the ONLY local well (1 mile away) every morning at 2a.m. to pump water for our mission’s needs. That’s when the line is the shortest since the well is pumped 24 hours a day. This well serves over 5,000 people.
Eric tried last year to drill in this area, but was stopped by solid granite bedrock. The machine that will be drilling our Meluco wells proved last year that granite is no barrier when they successfully completed the Nsewe B village well. We were all amazed to watch it drill through 30 feet of solid bedrock in 90 minutes to get to beautiful water. That well has never gone dry and provides over 2,500 gallons of water/day to those villagers.
Two other villages in Meluco, also desperate for clean water, will receive the final 2 wells.
MUCH LOVE AND BLESSINGS TO ALL OF YOU FOR HELPING US SHOW THE LOVE OF JESUS TO THE ORPHANS OF MOZAMBIQUE.
Bush Bunny Brenda and the Balama team
Have a blessed day my friends
A Journey Called Life
A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.
"What food might this contain?", the mouse wondered.He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.
Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed this warning :
"There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.
" The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."
The mouse turned to the cow and said, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."
So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap . . . Alone. .. .
That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.
The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it. It was a venomous snake whose tail was caught in the trap. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital.
When she returned home she still had a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup. So the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient:
But his wife's sickness continued. Friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.
But, alas, the farmer's wife did not get well... She died. So many people came for her funeral that the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them for the funeral luncheon.
And the mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness. So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and you think it doesn't concern you, remember ---
When one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.
Shariamerica: Islam, Obama, and the Establishment Clause
I feel so special
I feel really special right now because a friend of mine wrote a paper about me and my simple life for her college financial class.
She said she's better get an A on it because she actually knows me and its not just research she did on someone somewhere that who knows if they really live like that.
I didn't tell her that we are actually trying to simplify our life even more and downsize even more than we already have. She would get a kick out of that I bet.
I told her I would like to read the paper she wrote. Hope she lets me.
We are realizing that Jeff may not be able to work forever, and in case he isn't able to we need to be able to live as simply and cheaply as we can. He has no plans to retire but life sometimes throws curve balls at you and you have to either duck or get hit in the face. We would like to duck if we can. We figure that by learning to live more simply now it wont be such a shock if and when the time comes that forces us to do so.
I am stocking up on non perishable things like toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrushes, beans, rice and the like when I can get them killer cheap so that I never have to buy these things at sale price let alone regular price with out a coupon.
I rarely buy things we don't regularly use except when its an item someone I know can use and I always use what I store and store what I use in all departments.
You would be surprised how much you can store in a 5th wheel. I am actually pretty good at organizing and finding space where most people don't see potential storage space. While its true that I cant store years worth of products or be like the Extreme Coupon people I can store enough to tide us through hard times. Which by the way seem to come more frequently these days. I am also able to buy cheap or free items I can then pass on to friends who have a need for them.
An example of creating more storage space: Lets say you have 4 box's of band aids. Those 4 boxes take up a fair amount of space, but if you dump the 4 box's contents into a zip lock bag you have much more space. You already know how to apply a band aid and I have never even looked to see if there are instructions on the box so obviously you don't need the box's. And get this, those 4 box's of band aids can actually fit in a snack size zip lock bag. Thus you have created much more storage space.
Look around your bathroom, utility closet, and kitchen to see if there are items there you can store in a different way.
Do you have a unique way of storing something? Tell me about it.
Kill the old red rooster
We have company coming today. We are so excited that if we did have chickens we would kill the old red rooster when they come.
But we don't have chickens so instead I am making a big pot of Yolanda's baked beans with my twist on them.
We are excited because its the first time in a long time that we actually have a place for company to sleep. Before it was super crowded and absolutely no privacy, well almost none and they came to visit anyway so this time it will be nice to be able to give them a decent bed and some privacy.
The girls are moving back into their old room for the duration so our company gets their new digs.
As soon as we have the money and find a good deal on two used twin size mattresses we will have even more room for company. We already found and purchased a day/trundle bed to use as a spare bed/couch in the girls camper. When we get mattresses we will have that much more bed space.
Well I still have to finish up the beans and clean the bathroom so I better get busy.
Have a great day.
Cheap hair gel
Did you know you can use aloe vera gel as a cheap and body friendly hair gel? My friend Dee Dee told me about this a few months ago and I have been using it ever since. You can pretty much use any aloe gel. Right now I am using Fruit of the Earth after sun gel in a pump bottle because we already had it.
If I had to replace my gel I think I would look for some at the Dollar Tree and try to find one with as few added ingredients as possible.
Thanks Dee Dee
Savings at the stores
Last week I decided I needed to get back into shopping at Walgreens and learn some new stores since I now have more variety of stores to shop. I got some sunday papers and began searching the ads and putting together coupon match ups and reading blogs about coupon match ups.
I gathered all my coupons, circulars and such and headed to wags (Walgreens). This is the end result.
saved $205.47
spent $124.44
RR $113.00
So after RR my total spent was $11.44
Then I went to HEB and bought some groceries and got $78.00 worth of groceries for $29.00
As you can see I had lots of RR from wags. I have a few things I want to use them for next week but I also need some solar lights for a project I am doing. So I went to wags last evening because Jeff and Hannah needed to pick up their new glasses in that town and I bought 24 solar lights at $1.99 each a sympathy card for $1.99 and a set of wire strainers for the kitchen for $3.99. Total was $53.59 with tax and I used $52.99 RR and paid .60 cash oop.
I am not sure why but it said my tax was .05. They tax things very different here in Texas so I dont know what all was taxed or if it taxed my after RR total or what.
Jeff has to go back today after work so I am going to try my hand at a small transaction at CVS. That is one store I was never able to learn because there were none close to me before now.
Come on rain
HOW DRY IS IT IN TEXAS ?
It's so dry in Texas that the Baptists are starting to baptize by sprinkling, the Methodists are using wet-wipes, the Presbyterians are giving out rain-checks, and the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water.
Now THAT's Dry
Best ever taco meat
Today I decided to make taco's for supper. I had three large zucchini that had gotten away from me and gotten too big. I decided to use them in the taco meat. Wow. This is what I did.
3/4 lb. ground beef/deer mix
1/2 chopped onion
fry until done
add taco seasoning (I buy in bulk and never measure, it was maybe 1/4 c.)
While the meat was cooking I went out to the garden and cut some cilantro, came in washed it and grated one of the huge zucchini's into a bowl. When the meat was done I added the cilantro and zucchini along with about a cup of salsa. I cooked this for a bit and woowzer. I am totally amazed how good this is.
Even Hannah loved it.
Yeah, another way to use zucchini.
Missionary report for June 5, 2011
Subject: Bush Bunny Blog, June 5, 2011F
rom: "Brenda Lange" Date: June 4, 2011 10:29:46 PM
CDTHI FROM BUSH BUNNY’S TEAM OF AWESOME MISSIONARIES IN MOZAMBIQUE!
June 1st was a record setting day, as we received 60 TONS, that’s 132,000 pounds of corn in 7 HOURS!
Our team of 80 Mozambican men and 9 missionaries processed a RECORD 37 TONS on Thursday and 43 TONS, on Friday.
Never in the history of this mission did I think these numbers were possible!!!!(previous record was 25 tons/day.)
This team has really taken the load off my shoulders, and I am very thankful to the Lord for sending them our way.
Eric is driving our 6 ton truck, and Manuel, our Moz. tractor driver, is pulling a trailer that carries 6 tons/load.We have 2 “weighing teams” going from village to village to buy the corn. It’s then picked up by the truck or tractor and unloaded at one of our 3 barns.
Dave, Don and the 4 young women (Deb, Micki, Becca,and Steph), work the corn chutes where we spray the corn to kill the eggs of the “corn bug” that will soon hatch to eat the corn kernels. Without this process, the corn would be eaten by these bugs while in storage until only dust remains in the sack.
The 350+ tons we will purchase will feed our 1,711 orphans for one year.
Both last weekend and this weekend, our visiting missionaries will give Bible teaching dramas at 2 different bush churches in our area.
I am very proud of our 6 visiting missionaries who have risen to the task at hand.
June is the most stressful month we have each year, and the most physically challenging as we work from 5:30a.m. till the day’s work is done (sometimes getting in the last load at dark).
All of the team is really enjoying the challenge as they know they are saving lives by helping to store the food provided by YOU, God’s generous donors.
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU BEING PART OF THIS TEAM, OUR STAFF ARE ABLE TO CONTINUE GOD’S WORK TO RESCUE AND SAVE THE LOST!
Blessings from Bush Bunny Brenda
Eric Dry
Linda Stanley (famous cook who keeps us all smiling with her healthy version of “Happy Goat Meals”.
JAnd the Balama Super 6 short term missionaries from the USA.
If you remember, Becca is the visiting missionary from my daughters bible college. It sounds like they are all working very hard to ensure food for the orphans for the next year.
Another young life snuffed out too early
My youngest daughter's 16 year old cousin was babysitting this past Saturday night. Apparently she drove to the job. The people she was babysitting for gave her booze. She hit a parked road grader on her way home. The young girl was there for at least three hours with two broken legs and numerous other injuries both internal and external before she was found.
She was taken to the hospital where she was in critical condition.
Yesterday, they placed her in a medically induced coma and she wasn't expected to live through the night. Sadly, she died at about2:30 am this morning.
I had not seen this young lady for many years so I know practically nothing about her except that she is the oldest child in that family.
I don't understand why grownups act so irresponsibly with kids. She may or may not have begged and pleaded for just one drink but that is no reason for a supposed adult to give a child mixed drinks. They said she was drunk so she must of had more than one drink, or maybe one drink is enough to get you drunk when you are 16. It doesn't matter either way. The child is dead and she was drunk when she left the job.
I bet there will be repercussions for the adult who gave her the mixed drinks (s).
Such a sad story. I pray my girls never are tempted to do this kind of thing.
Productive day
Over the Memorial Day weekend our family purchased an additional used RV. Its for the girls. They now have space and privacy and so do Jeff and I.
Today was very productive for both the girls and I. The girls worked on their new to them camper and I worked at rearranging shelves and making use of my newly available space.
I was joking to a friend the other day about how most people add on to their home by building on a room but we just buy another camper and rent another rv spot.
Jeff removed the shower base in the new to us camper and made sure there were no leaks underneath and that the only leak was in the actual faucet. There were no leaks underneath the shower. The past few days he has hooked up the sewer connection, the electricity and the plumbing. The new shower faucet is on order and he will replace the old one as soon is delivered. We also need to order a new lock and knob system for the girls camper so they can feel secure that no one else has a key to their place except mom and dad.
In our RV I rearranged the living room area and made it more cozy. I have made several configurations and changes to the living room area and kitchen. Who would have thought you can do so much rearranging in an RV?
Tomorrow the girls will scrub down their new bathroom and get the last of their clothes and stuff from their old room and scrub it down. I am using their shelves and drawers in their old room for storage. Whoo, hoo. Everyone loves more storage.
We bought the girls a day/trundle bed to use in the living area as a couch/spare bed but it didn't come with mattresses, so now we are in the market for new twin size mattresses. Hopefully they are not too expensive. We also told the girls they can have our TV as soon as we have the money and can find a new one we like and that will fit in the TV cutout area.
