Make a bib from a kitchen towel

I like to make bibs from kitchen towels.  They wash easily and really cover the child to prevent messy stains on nice clothes.  I have made many of these bibs through the years.  Today I decided to make some bibs to take to Kastyn when we go see her on Wednesday.
This is a super short tutorial on making these bibs.
First buy a bar towel or kitchen towel.  Cut the towel like this and zig zag around the cut edges.


Next, fold the towel to make selves and either sew or pin.  I like to sew them.  Then I just crochet around the edges and make ties.  Today I went a little crazy and embellished this bib.  I have never made one so fancy.

Kastyn should look pretty cute while she is getting carrots all over her pretty bib.  I really like the way it turned out.

Then I crochet and embellished a red bib for Kastyn.  Notice the little butterfly on the shoulder.   I made it using #3 crochet thread.  I sewed the butterfly on really good so it doesn't come off.  I made the antenna from the yarn as well.



Feed sack tote bag tutorial

Lets make a tote bag from a woven plastic animal feed bag.


Look at your bag and the design. Decide what part you want to be premier or showing the most.
With a wet rag wipe the inside of the bag. They are a little bit greasy and you want to get rid of that. Plus they smell like cat food.

Cu off the top and bottom of the bag where the closure was/is.

Cut two strips from the top or bottom, where ever it will not interfere with the finished picture on the bag. These are going to be your straps.

Sew across the bottom of the bag on the outside. Then you will be turning it inside out and that way your seam wont show on the bottom or your bag.

Turn your bag inside out, pushing the corners out.

Sew along the bottom of the bag just above where you sewed on the right side of the bag.

Fold the bottom like this. Now sew straight across where my thumb is to make a sort of triangle.

Turn the bag right side out and push out the box corner you just made.

Now, take the strips you cut for your straps and fold the two sides to the middle and sew along the middle of the strip. I use a zig zag.

Now mark where you want to place your straps.

Place your strap by your marking.

Fold the bag down with the strap under the fold. This makes the strap folded double.

Pin along the top of the bag placing the straps where you want them. Pining through the straps is hard so use sturdy pins.

Sew around the bag twice. Along the top and bottom edge of the folded over part.

There you go. You just made a tote bag from an animal feed bag. These bags are very sturdy. I really love mine.

Washable sandwich and snack bags tutorial

Cut a piece of fabric about an inch wider than the size sandwich bag you wish to make.


Try to trim the fabric so its even.

Flip fabric inside out.

Sew along both sides on the long side.

You have made a sort of tube. Now turn the tube right side out.

Iron

Fold something like this.

Sew along both sides of the bag.

See the pocket you just made?

You are done, just put your sandwich into the bag and fold the flap down.
